Trade Secretary: Who Crafts

Version: 30400-0.1.07
by: Mike-N-Go [More]

Trade Secretary: Who Crafts
Tracks who can craft what; tell your friends to whisper you '!wc' to view your directory. Use /wcc to update it.

As of May 20, 2009: This addon is unsupported for the time being. AddOn authoring was only a hobby of mine. Mike-N-Go is not currently playing WoW, thus not creating or maintaining mods for WoW. If someone wishes to submit a patch for one of my mods to WoWInterface, you may within the bounds of the license bundled with the mod.

code hunter has posted an update for this mod for 3.1 here.

Note: With patch 3.0.8, the item caches of your WoW program have been reset. This may cause disconnect problems when the addon trys to send an link that has not been added to the cache. Best course of action is to have people link you their crafts, and add them again. If you still get DCs, then either give it some time or purge the database. I will be looking into a real fix for this.

Recent Changes and Important Information:
Note: It is not recommended to run both CraftyGnome and this addon together; this addon is meant as a replacement for CG.
Version: 30400-0.1.07
Last update: 02-14-09
This mod is only recently developed. The code is the author's main focus and development; the documentation might be slightly incorrect or misleading from this version; the first version.
Requesting user feedback, and suggestions; do check if your suggestion is under "Future expansion, additions, planed features, etc " before you type it out, because it might already be in the works, unless you wish to expand on something listed there.
If you find a bug, please make sure it is not listed under "Caveats, Known Bugs, etc." before submitting a report
If anyone has any suggestions on how to make the code or documentation better, or would like to help develop the project, please contact me, email or IRC preferred.
Additional and more extensive instructions are provided in the documentation or the included ReadMe.

Recent Changes:
• Added error message to an otherwise silent failure of /wcc in pre-30400-0.1.07 reversions (format: '/wcc <crafter name> <link of profession>')

Brief Description:
Often, you might ask yourself or your friends, "Who crafts item x...?" Solution is upon you! With Who Crafts, it is easier then every to check who can craft an item. Not only for your eyes, but for others' as well; people only have to whisper you the trigger! This addon was built off of Crafty Gnome, by Rabbit, and has had many features improved. As it works off of whispers, only one person who is online per friends group needs to have it; making it very useful to those not wanting to install the mod. Note that this mod only helps you keep track of who can craft what, there is still some legwork involved by acquiring the links.

About the Name:
Why is this called "Trade Secretary: Who Crafts" you ask? Well, this version of "Trade Secretary" is to make it easier to keep track of who can craft what, and would be the first installment of a future suite that gives one a secretary for their trading, and other secretary-like activities whenever I happen to make them.

Use:
To populate or update the database:
1) Open your craft window or one from a hyperlink.
2) Key '/wcc <crafter name> <link of profession>' to populate the database
Remember to update from time-to-time, as new craftables are not added automatically.

To search the database:
Via whisper:
1) Whisper to yourself (or tell others to whisper to you) "!wc"
2) In guild/raid/party, prompt with "!wc"
To send a query:
1) Key /wcs TARGET !COMMAND SEARCH

To purge the database:
All:
1) Key /run WhoCraftsDB = nil
2) Key /run ReloadUI() or logout

Advanced users:
1) Trim the SV file at .../World\ of\ Warcraft/WTF/Account/<ACCOUNTNAME>/SavedVariables/WhoCrafts.lua

To tell others how to use the mod with the built-in message:
1) Key '/wci <player name>' and an instruction will be whispered to that player with "Please whisper me '!craft <item name>' to try my AddOn, Trade Secretary: Who Crafts. It can help you find who can craft an item you want made. Also, you can message me through guild or party chat. Whisper me your profession links to add them."

To send a search to the clipboard:
• Key /wcp. Format: /wcp !COMMAND SEARCH
• /wcp returns an edit box that you can cut and paste the item name, wowhead link, and who can craft the item. This can then be copied, via your clip board, to a text editor or a forum. Make sure to the site follows the instructions on http://www.wowhead.com/?powered to get the mouse-over links to show. !COMMAND SEARCH would return the same thing as if you did a normal search, yet /wcp is disabled for !trade.

Feedback requested, but not limited to:
Any errors in the mod
Ease of use

Installation:
After you decompress the file, copy the Trade Secretary Who Crafts folder into your Interface/AddOns folder under your World of Warcraft Installation Directory.

Upgrading:
When updating Trade Secretary Who Crafts, please make sure to have a copy of WhoCrafts.lua SV backed up! Make sure to read the updated version for any other upgrade problems.

A note to my fellow authors:
If anyone wishes to use more then a few lines of my code, I request you credit me by saying, "This product includes software developed by MikeNGo and Rabbit" somewhere as a comment, or in your documentation. I also hope that anyone who would take the time to read my code, would take the time to send me an e-mail of what you think, or what can otherwise be improved.

Caveats, Known Bugs, etc.:
• The data structure is not finalized, and is subject to revamping
• There might be some display issues with whispers hiding/showing esp. with whisper manager addons like WIM.
• Some crafters might be added to the list twice with /wcc
• The "NAME searched Who Crafts with: !COMMAND SEARCH. NUMBER results returned." returns a few less results less then there actually are. This will be fixed in reversion 30400-0.1.06
If you use a mod that uses '!' as a whisper trigger, let me know so I can set Who Crafts to ignore the input of that trigger

About the Version Numbers:

Trade Secretary: Who Crafts

Version: 30400-0.1.06
Date: 01-31-09
• New feature: '!craft ITEMNAME' now in tooltips; now shows who can craft by just mousing over an item. Note: this feature needs some tuning.
• Embeded CTL (ChatThrottleLib); should be less problems with DCing due to using too much BANDWIDTH use only

Version: 30400-0.1.05
Date: 01-01-09
• Added support for !in, !inscription, previously the only way to search for inscribed craftables was with !craft
• If a search is = "!link" , then Who Crafts will ignore the search. This is to allow LinkBot to function without spamming Who Crafts msgs. LinkBot will have more compatibility with Who Crafts in the future.
• Changes to /wcp: The copy frame now auto-highlights text. The "Set Note" button was an artifact, and has been removed. Their are now more help messages for /wcp.
• When /wcs is used to send a tell to someone, a message is also sent to tell them what the search was

Version: 30400-0.1.04
Date: 12-30-08
• Added /wcp.
• Turned off some debug messages accidentally left on in 30400-0.1.03

Version: 30400-0.1.03
Date: 12-26-08
• Updated a typographical error in /wci to "Please whisper me \'!craft <item name>\' to try my AddOn, Trade Secretary: Who Crafts. It can help you find who can craft an item you want made. Also, you can message me through guild or party chat. Whisper me your profession links to add them."
• Implemented /wcs: Send a search via whisper with: /wcs NAME !craft SEARCH
• Fixed !help
• Fixed !next
• Added searching with hyperlinks
• Updated local query notification: SEARCHER searched Who Crafts with: MESSAGE. AMOUNT results returned.
• Implemented !trade. For this feature to work correctly, crafter's profession links need to be updated. This feature allows searching via profession or crafter name, and outputs: CRAFTER_NAME, CRAFT, LAST_UPDATED, NOTES
• Changed /wcc to new format: /wcc CRAFTER_NAME [SHIFT_CLICKED_LINK] NOTES.
• Messages longer then 255 characters are cut off at the ending if there length exceed this delimiter
• Added support with /wcc for professions without links; you can now add herbalists, miners, lock pickers, etc to your database, or make notes per person
• Added version number to "first tell" whisper and !trade notification: "To use Trade Secretary: Who Crafts (v 0.0.03), whisper me \'!craft item\' to search for an item, \'!trade searchterm\' to get trade links and names of crafters, \'!wc\' for the list of other triggers, or \'!help\' for usage information."
• You will need to update the crafts with the /wcc for !trade to function correctly. If a result from !trade returns "NAME's [CRAFT]", then the CRAFT link might be broken because only part of the !trade backed was implemented in the previous version.

Version: 30400-0.1.02
Date: 12-20-08
• Fixed an error that might prevent the player from modifying the list of craftables because some variables were global
• Updated /wci to "Please whisper me \'!craft <item name>\' to try my AddOn, Trade Secretary: Who Crafts. It can help you find who can craft an item you what made. Also, you can message me through guild or party chat. Whisper me your profession links to add them."
• Added confirmation to /wci message

Thank you for your bug report. I have not spent much time playing WoW since 3.1 hit, but I hope to investigate this problem, and have it resolved by the 23rd of next week.

What is the trick to actually scanning a proffesion and then the command to open up the results/database window.
It still works, yet I made a change a few versions back that made /wcc fail silently if the new way to input /wcc was not used.

Code:
To populate or update the database:
1) Open your craft window or one from a hyperlink.
2) Key '/wcc <crafter name> <link of profession>' to populate the database
This change was made to support the search term '!trade' that would search the trade links and send them.

IE:
To populate the DB:
1) Someone links their Leatherworking to the trade channel.
2) You click the link to open the craft window
3) You input '/wcc Someone [Leatherworking]' (Where leatherworking is the shift-clicked of the profession)
4) Press enter or return
5) You will see 'Someone's [Leatherworking] appended to Who Crafts list' to note it was successfully appended
6) Repeat from 1 for other crafts

To search the DB:
1) Whisper yourself '!lw leather' to see everything that is in the DB (progressing with !next)
or
1) Key '/wcs YOURNAME !lw leather' to see everything that is in the DB (progressing with !next)
or
1) Key '/wcp !lw leather' to put all of the leather in the DB to a copy frame, that you can use your copy command and then paste the text where you please.

Thanks, xkingofnyx, for noting this problem to me.

For your other question, /wcs sends a search result via whisper. There is no, current, GUI interface established from Who Crafts; all there is is /wcc for adding to the database, /wci to tell someone how to use the mod, /wcs to send a search, commands via the whisper interface (whisper yourself '!wc' in game to see the current commands), and search results in tooltips if a crafter of that item is known.

Yet, you can use other means or another addon to access the DB via a GUI.

To get the tooltip of an item, other then whisper:
1) You can look see it in chat,
2) Send yourself '!trade SEARCH' where SEARCH is a keyword such as the name of a crafter, or of a profession, and the link will print for you to click it to open a crafters' craft; just as if they had linked the craft to you.
3) Use something such as TradeLinks to put all of your crafts into one trade link, and then mouse over the item links

I also have plans to, eventually, either make some search GUI or integrate an addon like TradeLinks into this project.

As for the documentation, I hope to better it.. sometime.

Thanks again for reporting this discrepancy!

For some reason its repeating the names. It would be nice to have a command that gives all the recipes for specified levels. Right now if I type in "/wcp !enchant" I get nothing, so I have to specify something like gloves. I would like to see something like - all enchants level 70 and up, copy and paste into forum and im done.
The double names is on the todo list. If you want to get all of enchanting, you can search "!COMMAND " (note: that is double space; most every recipe is likely to have a space somewhere). Or "!craft " for all skills (I have 2847 different recipes in my database!). Or "!enchanting ", "!enchanting enchanting", or "!craft enchanting" to dump all of enchanting. To put it simply, the addon scans the tooltips and matches your search query the tooltips output. And the item would have "Enchanting: Enchant Gloves - Strength" in the name, so that would return all of the crafts for enchanting. Edit: The form does not like my double spaces.. just use your imagination.

As for only high level enchants, the addon sorts the results in iLevel (look that up on wowwiki for more info). Higher iLevels first; the higher iLevel, the more powerful. So you can trim the lower part of a file when you see one of the week items if yah want.

In a few weeks when I have the time to burn, I plan to improve the documentation. But for now, I seem to be adding many new features to this mod; it would be a better use of time to work on the features and then write the docs, methinks. One thing I plan to do is have an in-game help system.

I know that there is not too much explanation on how to use things; I plan to work on that sometime.. Anyone care to help with anything on my projects? Be it writing instructions, code, feedback, spelling, getting the word out, or whatnot; send me an email. Also, if you have any questions, post them on my portal/file-comments or email them to me, too. Or, chat with Mike-N-Go on the freenode IRC server.

The 'Set Note' is an artifact; it was accidentally placed there and will be removed next version.

Use the select all command of your clipboard; I am on a mac so for me it is command+a. Then I press command+c to copy. I now open a file in my text editor and press command+v to paste. You do not need to 'drag' through the whole string to select it.

The small frame is used because it was simple to do. I have plans to improve /wcp in making a larger frame, viewable local results, and easier copying, in the future.

The select all command is control+a on Windows, right?

I am not able to reproduce this with the data that you have given me. What parameters did you run it with? What text after '/wcp'? If none, then you need to type your search term after /wcp. Does the same search via whisper work? May you provide me with more details, it makes it easier to help.

What you are thinking of is here and here. That page has the script that allows wowhead tooltips in other sites. I understand what you want. You want to be able to copy over the data from Who Crafts into a web site, with the item name, url wowhead link, and the people who can craft the item. I think it would be simple to make a frame where you can copy these things from. I'll put it on the todo list.

Something like that. Player1 etc are the people that can craft the item. The link is BB code:
The wowhead link gives a mouseover tooltip on enabled websites. The forum I want to post it in: http://www.badaguild.com

edit - not sure why the code tag here shows a link to wowhead instead of the actual bb code.
It does not show here because the code in the links are not on wowinterface.com.

Bold Scarlet Ruby - Player1, Player2, Player3
