If you know you only have a few selected addons you would like to run just run standalone. Now that most of the UI sites have a "My Favorites" section for accounts it is not that much work to keep your addons uptodate. When WoW first came out I did the UI sets for a while but found I was waiting on authors to update theirs with updates that I could simply just download. I think of it as being similiar to pre-built and home built PCs, pre-built is mostly hassle free and arrives ready to go out of the box. Home built requires just a little bit more attention and setup but you get exactly what you want. Just my thoughts at 4:30 am hope it helps.
