Vehicular Questslaughter

I've tried a search, but didn't find anything matching my choice of words, and hope that this is not a duplication.

First things first - Love NUI. Compact, all the info, replaces a dozen addons. But....

While using NUI, I've been encountering issues when attempting "vehicle quests" (with a vehicle UI), that can only be resolved by logging out of the current character, or exiting the game entirely, re-entering and completing the quest with NUI disabled.

The first example occurred in Storm Peaks, attempting to complete the quest Battling the Elements ( http://www.wowhead.com/quest=12967 ). Upon mounting Snorri, I am able to grab one or two Snowdrifts to throw at the revenants before the error occurs. When it does, I can continue to move about, but cannot pick up more Snowdrifts. Attempting to do so (keyboard or mouse) produces the error "Requires snowdrift", as if I'm not in the location at which I appear to be. Party members report that I am "running in place".

In Mount Hyjal, attempting Wave One, Wave Two and Egg Wave ( http://www.wowhead.com/quest=25525 ), it wasn't possible to complete the quest for much the same reason. I appeared to pass through the objectives with no interactive result. Flying back to the questgiver resulted in an empty rockface, with no questgiver, mounts, lance rack or exit portal within view.

Again, party members saw me "running in place". Another party member, as a test, loaded nUI ... and had the same problem with the quest.

I did not appear to have an issue with Learning the Reins ( http://www.wowhead.com/quest=13677 ) at the Argent Tournament.

Re-logging into the character with nUI loaded allows a few seconds of normal functionality before the freeze. Re-logging into the character with nUI disabled allows the quest to be successfully completed.

For now, that's what I'll be doing as I hit vehicle quests getting this toon leveled. But, hopefully, a fix will make that an unnecessary step.

I've done all of these quests and have not seen this problem.

I'm wondering if it isn't some kind of conflict issue with another mod. Can you give me a list of all of the mods you use?

Also, have you ever done a full clean install of nUI as per this FAQ: http://www.wowinterface.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=37330

Problems like this are almost always a conflict issue.

Well, I found another vehicle quest...which glitched partway through. So, with no-addons, nUI only, and then a few more here and there, I and a party member re-did the quest Gnomebliteration over and over and over to try to isolate the conflict. It was quite a boring chore (maniacal laughter) but I got through it.

Possible culprits:
Altoholic 4.1.001b (and its army of DataStore minions)
LightHeaded r337

Curiously, with only 1 of those loaded *AND* when in a party with another player, the glitch happened. (Out of party, it didn't, which makes it even stranger).

Just to be sure I'm clear....

If you enable nothing but the core nUI app (no nUI plugins) and either Altaholic, *OR* Lightheaded (not both) you get the glitch?

Or is it a more complicated combination than that?

The fact that it only happens in a party would tend to make me think it's related to some party function of one of those two mods. Possibly the party panel in nUI? You could try using the command '/nui autogroup' to turn off nUI's automatic panel switching, then manually set the unit frame panel to the solo mode and try the quest again... does it still glitch? If so, then the problem is not in the nUI party mode and is in the other mod. If switching from nUI's party panel to the solo panel makes the problem go away, it *might* be an issue in the party panel.

That's what we're seeing. The person helping me will be offline for the next coupla days, but when she returns we'll try again. Unfortunately, we haven't hit the glitch on an easily repeatable daily quest. That would be "too easy", I guess.

Sounds like it's the 'in a party' glitch whilst doing the vehicle quest.

Solo quests are best done out of party, due to sometimes causing issues of quest not completing properly or glitching.

I use Altoholic & nUI myself, and have never had any issues with them being loaded.

OK. I found a repeatable glitchable quest at the Argent Tournament:

I picked up the quest, defeated an opponent, and. . .then I could not dismount, nor right-click on another opponent nor interact with any other player/NPC/mob without re-logging/exiting the game.

And, even better, it glitched in solo play. So, I started testing.

First, I renamed Interface/AddOns and WTF (again. . .I'm getting quite the collection), and re-installed nUI+ as the only AddOn. I fired up WoW, sat through the cinematic, accepted the Terms of Use and logged in. I then jousted with nUI as the only AddOn, all nUI settings at the default, with WoW in Windowed mode, and the Music turned off.

Before each joust, I deleted 1 Mark of the Valiant, so that I had only 2 and the quest was not complete. As mentioned previously, a party member would see me running in place when the glitch occurred, so in testing, each joust alternated between the Horde and Alliance Valiants. If I rode to the other faction's ring and didn't see any Valiants with which to joust, I knew I'd encountered the glitch.

With nUI as the only AddOn, and all settings at the default, the glitch did not occur over successive jousts.

I then changed my nUI settings:
/nui tooltips default
/nui combattips (I want them enabled in combat, thank you)
SimpleHUD

I tried jousting again. It glitched at the end of the first joust.

After defeating a valiant from Orgrimmar, I went to the Alliance ring. . .and found it empty. I could not dismount. Returning to the Horde ring, I could not interact with any valiants.

Solo quest. Not in a party.
nUI+ as the only installed AddOn.

I believe I can now officially stop pulling my hair.

Have you tried without nUI+, just WoW as it comes out of the box.

This way you can discover whether it is nUI glitching the quest or if it's a glitch with the quest itself (a Blizzard issue).

Okay... I've done Argent Tournament quite a bit on a couple of my toons. When I get home from work this evening, I'll run up there and see if I can reproduce it.

No addons at all. It glitched after the 10th joust.

Exited, re-ran WoW repair.

Tested again, no addons at all. It glitched after the 17th joust.

So, multiple vehicle quests across several zones glitch shortly after I try "converting" someone to nUI, and it's just a bloody coincidence.

Sorry to waste your time.

I think I need to order another case of Monster Rehab....

It's okay... things like this pop up. Honestly, it's surprising it doesn't happen more often. If you *really* think about the complexity of the entire WoW system, it's almost stunning it works at all.

I think there was an issue with the jousting 'glitching', shortly after v4.0.1 went live. Not sure if they were ever fixed by Blizzard.
