Also known as "I have this really popular AddOn, but I can no longer commit to the time necessary to maintain it".

That's the statement we have heard from a couple of mod authors. And they have asked us (WoWI) to find people willing to take over for them. So, acting on their behalf and at their request, WoWInterface is looking for people willing to take over:

If you are interested in taking over this mod, and have the know-how and time required to devote to them, please contact one of the site staff that we may have all parties involved discuss your interest.

Also, we are in the process of compiling a list of all mods that aren't current and contacting the authors and finding out what their intentions are. If we get no response, or if the authors respond that they don't intend to update them, that they have "abandoned" them, we intend to create a new download category for "Abandoned" mods, move them to there, then if folks want to subsequently patch them and basically take them over, they will know that they are fair game.
