Lightbulb Downscaling Ui's

Just a quick question,

Is there a general rule of thumb for downscaling UI's ?

Eg:
You have one UI that is 1280x1024 Rez and Y Scale, then you want to reduce it to 1024x768 Rez and Y scale.

Just wondering cos I personally use a laptop with max Rez 1024x768, I've tryed many times to manauly do it but even after moving things around it still looks bad. Least this way if there was i can just edit the config file with the maths and load up most ui's i want but in the scale i require.

Thank you for your time.

Khurune, Emerald Dream EU.

1280x1024 is a different aspect ratio than 1024x768. Meaning, that the screen is taller/closer to squarish on 12x10 than it is on 10x7. If you find a UI with a resolution that is the same aspect ratio as your 10x7, then it is easier to downsize it.

Ty for your reply. I'll bare that in mind.

My current one that i made is:

But i don't like it any more, and don't really have the time to make any new ones. So least now i got some info to go looking for a new one that i shouldn't have to play around with too much

Adding to Seerah's response, here's a list of other 4:3 aspect resolutions and an associated WoW UI scale factor value to use to fit a UI designed for those resolutions correctly on your display.

800x600 --- 1.28 (experiment with values less than 1.28 as well)
1024x768 -- 1.00
1152x864 -- 0.89 (approximate)
1280x960 -- 0.80
1600x1200 - 0.64

Aside from a UI designed for your resolution, you're best bets probably lay with UIs designed for 1152x864 (if you can find one...) or 1280x960 (you can find many). The other options are likely to have UI elements that are either too large or too small to be comfortable for use.
