Yeah... you're kinda stuck with that with the CENTER option. You'd have to use "LEFT" to do that.

Not really sure why modding it would damage FPS more than it already is. There is a known issue in nUI5 with an FPS leak, but I can't see why modding the layout would change that any.

I think you may be very much misunderstanding what all of these things are. I might suggest you have a look at this FAQ and all of the labels in the image so you're clear on what each section...
