RIP Steve Jobs

Love Apple or not, Steve had a major influence on the world we live in. Our condolences to his family.

* Do not turn this into a Apple vs PC vs ... flame-fest, please and thank you.

I remember learning to program on an Apple II.

Jobs, you were a crazy bastard, but you were also brilliant. You forever changed how people thought of computers. You stole ideas, and yet made them become visions.

Modern computers, and modern computer users, owe you so much more than we'll ever know.

You made today possible, and for that we'll miss you.

Rest in peace, Steve Jobs. In nomine patre, et fili, et spiritu sancti, amen.

Requiescat in pace.

You will be missed.

I was never much of an Apple person, but I'd have to be a complete idiot to not admit that Steve Jobs is one of the people that shaped the wonderful world of technology we live in today. He may be gone, but his legacy remains.

It's always sad when someone goes away, especially someone that in some way has affected people.

Aftermathhqt 10-06-11 07:36 AM

R.I.P Steve Jobs.

Coote 10-06-11 08:17 AM

I never really cared much for him or Apple, but he is responsible for Pixar, and you can't be a human and NOT love Pixar. :'(

Ahhh, Steve Jobs gets a "Boondock Saints" reference. RIP

Taryble 10-06-11 11:36 AM

Actually, it's a liturgical latin (ie Catholic ) reference - "In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost".

Thank you for the correction. I was tired and in a lot of pain when I wrote that. :>

Steve is iDead and iMourn.

unstoppixel 10-11-11 11:11 PM

Steve Jobs will be missed. He has done a lot for technology, especially in the phone arena. Not to mention Pixar revolutionizing computer animation in movies. Just when Apple was really coming into its prime... it's sad. :(

The two trivia that come to mind are
Quote:

When Jobs had his own illegitimate child, also at the age of 23, he too struggled with his responsibilities. For two years, though already wealthy, he denied paternity while Lisa's mother went on welfare. At one point Jobs even swore in a signed court document that he couldn't be Lisa's father because he was "sterile and infertile, and as a result thereof, did not have the physical capacity to procreate a child." He later acknowledged paternity of Lisa, married Laurene Powell, a Stanford MBA, and fathered three more children. Lisa Brennan-Jobs, now 29, graduated from Harvard and is a writer.

Regardless, Jobs did approach Wozniak with the job and two of his own requirements which are now legendary. Woz would get half of the fee which was claimed at $700 and no mention of a bonus. In fact, the way Jobs described it, if they could design it in under 50 chips, they'd get 700 bucks; and if it was under 40 chips, they'd get $1000. Likewise the second catch - it had to be done in four days. As Wozniak later found out, "Atari didn't put us on a time schedule; Steve did. I had to do it in four days because Steve had to catch an airplane to Oregon."
Wozniak was able to get the number of TTL's down to a startling 42 chips, but still had a few problems he wasn't happy with. When all was said in done, the Breakout prototype that was submitted by Jobs to Allan and Nolan had 46 chips and left everyone very impressed. They paid Jobs in cash, the $700 plus the bonus - which turned out to be a total of $5,000! Jobs turned around and paid an unknowing Wozniak the original $350 they had agreed upon.

Sounds like a real champ.
