MonkeyQuest Classic (DaMaGepy edition)  Updated this week!  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: Classic
by: damagepy [More]

A fixed version of the MonkeyQuest questtracker addon, with 1-2 extra features that I added.

I'm using MonkeyQuest since vanilla and I've always edited it for my taste and added features just for my personal use. Now I fixed it for Classic and I'm sharing it because maybe others like it as well.

By default it starts with my favorite style/layout settings, but they can be changed! (rightclick blue title):

  • Mouseovering a quest shows the full questtext in a tooltip (highlighting known locations) so no need to open questlog.
  • By default it hides the completed objectives and colors the questtitle green (done)
  • Grows upward (can be changed)
  • By default it's compact and uses small fonts (can be changed)

Now you can configure the look/colors/fonts/alpha (again) by right-clicking the blue title!

If you accidentally close the window, show it again with: /mquest open

Recent fix: I heard that on non-english clients clicking a quest may bring up an unreadable questlog (localized text ???). If it happens then just delete/disable the MonkeyQuestLog addon module so it will open the default blizzard log or Extended QuestLog (if you have the QuestLogEx addon)

Authors of original: Trentin, Jim-Bim

Fixed: if QuestLog can't display localized text, then disable that part of the addon, and it will open the quest in the default blizzard questlog, or in QuestlogExtended addon (if available)
Fixed: Work complete / more work sound

I'll check that version.
My main modifications were my custom config button in MonkeyBuddy to apply my favorite setting for the look, the mouseover questtext display, and highlighting some keyword there, the completed quest title green coloring and (done) text and some minor thing.
With the mouseover thing I almost never open the questlog, so even if the original is updated, I'll still continue using mine, I got used to it in the last 10+ year
(I always modified the original whenever an update came out, I wrote a "patcher" fior it to automatically find and edit/add certain lines and code but its too complicated with this classic version)
Anyway I'll check out if there is anything new added in the original fixed version or it's just a classic fix. I may continue updating/fixing my version if the author does not request to delete this modification....
Thanks for the reply, I'll keep an eye out for a follow up

I'm using EN so I don't know, never seen that problem and I can't test it.
You can simply just delete/disable MonkeyQuestLog so it opens the default blizzard QuestLog.
I just modified it so if MonkeyQuestLog is not available then will open blizzard's log, or if QuestLogExtended addon is installed then it opens the clicked quest in that.

Hi,

I saw that you uploaded a modified copy of MonkeyQuest for classic.
Thanks for letting early beta users play with it as it is also an old classic

I just uploaded a new release with initial classic support to the main project.
If anyone is still playing today let me know on that page if something is still broken.

https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/monkey-quest

PS: Let me know if there is demand to also host the project here on wowinterface.

Edit: As per demand, hosting the fully functioning main projects here now.

Is there anyway to disable it?
Have you disabled it at Interface Options (Game tab), Display / Automatic Quest Tracking? (uncheck)
It does not appear for me, so I guess thats it.. disable it and then in questlog just shift-click the already tracked quests to hide them and no new quests will appear... I guess.
I will test that out now. Thank you.

Rally like this. Just a thought, would notMonkey Buddy be better as an Interface Options selection.
No big deal, oneway or another.

This is for CLASSIC which uses the 8.x BFA client and totally different to private-servers, my 1.12 version is here.
That's great, thank you, but I am getting the same error every time I mouse-over the objective tracker, this time at line 1280. It works, but not without errors.
You mean you get this in Classic? or 1.12?
for 1.12 use the download that I linked below, but if you get any error for 'self' then change it to 'this' it usually solves that... for example:
local QID = self.m_iQuestIndex; --> local QID = this.m_iQuestIndex;
In 1.12. I will try that, thank you.

EDIT: That worked. Might consider updating your download All I did was replace both uses of "self" with "this" in MonkeyQuest.lua.

Thanks again for your prompt responses This was one of my favorite mods in the old days.
