QuestGuru  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 2.8.3
by: Lazare [More]

QuestGuru is a Quest Log Enhancer.
If you are looking for the "Classic" version of QuestGuru click QuestGuru_Classic

I have split off QuestGuru and QuestGuru Sounds into two separate addons that don't rely on each other so that the community that really missed the sounds can have them with me delaying them because of the qork being done on QuestGuru. I hope this makes at least some people happy.
You can click > QuestGuru Sounds

Note: If you like this addon, please "Like it" on Curse.com.
All Donations support me and I thank you in advance for it.

Features include:

  • Enhanced 2 page quest display in the log
  • Patch 6.0 broke QuestGuru, so this is a completely different monster
  • Conforms to the WOD map quest log (Tooltips for quests and icons showing quest status)
  • Added full time quest level in front of quest name and tooltips.
For those who are missing the Quest Tracker of QuestGuru, try Kaliel's Tracker

I have been using it for a long while and is not half bad

TO-DO's:
  • Will try and revamp the quest tracker as I love it also. But wanted to get the Log out ASAP.
  • Try to bring back the other features of the old QuestGuru (Sounds, announcements, etc.)
  • Need to make a in-game config window, still a work in progress.
F A Q
==============
Q. How do I post a Bug Report?
  • A1 - Click on QuestGuru Go to the AddOn and on the right side there is a selection called "Bugs" click on that. You will need to be signed in to WoW Interface to create a bug report.
  • A2 - Or file a ticket on QuestGuru@CurseForge
  • Note:
  • Please include the version of QuestGuru you are using and copy/paste the error message you receive.
  • Please describe what you were doing when the error happened. This will help tremendously.
Q. How do I turn on auto-tracking of quests?
  • A - Look in the options for the game itself, not QuestGuru. Under Objectives there are options to set when to track quests.
  • QuestGuru does not duplicate these settings in its own options as it could become problematic and it is not necessary to duplicate options already available.
Q. Where can I find a version compatible with WoW patch x?
  • A. QuestGuru is supported for the current Expansion and Patch level running on the live servers. PTR versions may be supported as Alpha or Beta releases, but I offer no guarantee.

QuestGuru
(no changes)

QuestGuru_Tracker
* Normalizing the version numbers between QuestGuru & QuestGuru_Tracker to the same value. This will be the main change log henceforth.
* fix Achievement to ignore update events that happen during portals (between leaving and entering world events)
The update event would fire, but Blizzard was reporting no achievements during that time so the QGT would
"UnTrack" the Achievements and so there would be none when the display tried to update (and therefore currLine was zero and j was nil)
* Look at the oldChangeLog in QuestGuru_Tracker for older updates to the tracker

Version 2.2.17-50400 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Changing the Version number so Curse will see that it's different

Version 1.5.16-50400 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* fix QGT_Achievement.lua to handle Blizzard not returning an integer value on the slider
Version 2.2.16-50400 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Removed a bit of diagnostic code accidently left in.
Version 2.2.15-50400 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Change logic around QuestLog_OnShow to use secure hook functions to resolve
a taint issue introduced by patch 5.4.1 (Shame on you Blizzard).

Version 2.2.14-50400 (QuestGuru)
Version 1.5.15-50400 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* TOC change for patch 5.4

Version 2.2.14-50300 (QuestGuru)
Version 1.5.15-50300 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* TOC change for patch 5.3
* Fixed a problem in QGT_Achievements that caused the Tracker to fail (Tracker)
* Big thanks to CMTitan who provided code to handle Scenarios that came out with MoP (Tracker)

Version 2.2.13-50001 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Added a new sound option to announce (Thank you Drizt)
* Added a snippet of code to fix a rare QuestLog layout problem. Drizt ran into this again in MoP & kindly shared his fix for the issue.
* Fixed a few more places where party handling was changed in MoP/Patch 5.0.4.
* Changed the Debug message for the objectives not returning data to be sensitive to the debug setting.

Version 1.5.14-50001 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Fixed another place where party handling was changed in MoP/Patch 5.0.4.

Version 2.2.12-50001 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Blizzard API GetQuestLogLeaderBoard is failing to return information for the identified objective & quest on some quests.
I changed the code to look for no information return and simply bypass processing for that objective after dumping some info into the chatlog.
I've added a slashcommand to invoke the routine at will: "/qg testui1"
For me, it's failing on "Shadow Wardens" and perhaps that's because the world tree marks are currency, not "items".
If the quest is an event quest (get 150 marks) then the type of quest should be event and the numObjectives should be zero.

Version 2.2.11-50001 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Error being reported by some @ line 410 of QuestGuru.lua. Added some diagnostic code when text == nil

Version 2.2.10-50001 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Removed some leftover diagnostic messages

Version 1.5.13-50001 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Fixed a problem with the Achievement Tracking

Version 2.2.9-50001 (QuestGuru)
Version 1.5.12-50001 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Both - Updated several items for compatability with Mists of Panderia (Patch 5.0.x)

Version 2.2.7-40300 (QuestGuru)
Version 1.5.10-40300 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Latest revision of the Russian localization now incorporated. Thank you again StingerSoft!
* Removed some unused code. Frame "QG_QuestLogTitleMenu"
* Fixed the SetBindings problem that would cause all bindings to occassionally get lost.

Version 2.2.6-40300 (QuestGuru)
Version 1.5.9-40300 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Made several localization changes. Enabled $substitution variables in announcer to be localized as well.
* Incorporated a brand new localization for Chinese(zhCN). Credit to Honooon with many thanks.
* Incorporated an updated localization for Russian(ruRU). Credit to StingerSoft with many thanks also.
* Updated all of the localizations (even the new ones) to synchronize variable names
* I based the updates upon the default (American) localization file.
* I removed variables that were no longer in the base localization file (most moved to the QuestGuru_Tracer localization)
* and added missing variables (in American)
* We now have localizations for German, French, Russian, and Chinese (zhCN & zhTW).
* I would really appreciate it if speakers of those languages sent me updates to them.
* There are some new variables in the localizations that need translation!

Version 2.2.5-40300
-------------
* The History button call to QuestCompletist has been fixed.

Version 2.2.4a-40300
-------------
* Refixed an issue in QuestGuru_Tracker\QGT_Quests.lua where SaveBindings sometimes received an invalid value because GetCurrentBindingSet() would return other than nil, 1, or 2.

Version 2.2.4-40300
-------------
* Fixed the TOC for 4.3 cata
* MrObrien has asked that somebody pickup and work on the QuestGuru so I will try and do some updates as I can't play without this mod.
Addon home is www.wowinterface.com and you can PM me there if you like. Gregity is the name.
I will be making small changes to get used to the codebase before I try anything like a major update.
* Fixed an issue in QuestGuru_Tracker/QGT_Quests.lua where SaveBindings sometimes received an invalid value because GetCurrentBindingSet() would return nil
* No other new information has been added (yet).

Version 2.2.3
-------------

Hi, there is no functional difference. It's simply a holdover from a previous version. It was changed to call Quest Completist before there was an Open QC button (provided by Quest Completist). I hope to put back in something like the old history window someday.

For a feature enhancement, please request it via the Features button on the right side of the Addon Info. tab.

@danawhitaker, brykrys, allogator

I updated the QGT_Quests to fix (hopefully permanently) the SetBindings error. The problem was that Blizz hadn't finished loading the KeyBindings despite VARIABLES_LOADED having been fired.

The logic of the setting of the Tracker Window Toggle was changed to not set if SHIFT-L was already used someplace or if the toggle keybinding was already set (to anything).

If the CurrentBindingSet was garbage, I set a three count timer for 1 second intervals and came back to it. If, after three tries, the CurrentBindingSet is still garbage, I quit.

I want to thank Dana for helping on this. She ran some diagnostics for me to help determine the exact problem.

I hope everyone had a Great Christmas and wish a Prosperous New Year to all.

changing other colors in tracker?

Hi, Nice addon, thanks for things. I kinda perused the first few pages of this, but Im wondering if there is a way to change the colors of the headers and things from yellow to white, and to also put an outline on the texts for the tracker. XD Im not even sure if this is still maintained, there is a lack of discussion since the last update, i think. but no news is good news, it seems to work just fine.

Re: changing other colors in tracker?

Yes, QuestGuru is supported and currently stable.

I am working on a complete re-write of the Add-On currently and hope to have it out for Mists of Pandera expansion.

After that, I will consider tweaks to things such as you mentioned, but first, major functionality

Please submit a feature request on the buttons on the middle right of the page and that way I won't loose track of the request.

The new version will be QuestGuru 3 and I'm working on having it modular so you can enable just the parts you want.

Currently there are the Quest Log Enhancement (includes the announcer and sound options) and the Tracker (both quests and achievements). Quest Completist is a great Add-On that provides data about quests so QG dropped it's history function. I hope to return the QG history as an optional feature so you can keep the info for quests that you have seen for future reference - something that I really liked. I also plan on a Party feature so you can get the complete quest log info for members of your party (provided they also have the same addon).

Work on the addon however has been slow lately as work (real life type) got overpowering in the last couple of months taking away all my breathing space.

Thanks for asking and remember to post that feature request!

Hooray! No news IS good news in this case. I will do as you ask. Are you looking for Panderia beta testers?

Grabbed questguru in order for my wife and I to quest with our kids, we were most interested in the QuestAnnouncer since they forget to pick up quests and it lets us track how much of what they have. I was playing with it enabled the other day and noticed it doesn't announce when a new quest is picked up, although the feature is on in the config. Is this something being addressed in the rewrite? Just curious because it would make this mod invaluable for us.

I guess i forgot to mention i'm using the latest version here and i was grouped. Thanks.

QuestGuru - Announcer

The answer to the question is yes and no.

I've noted that new quests (and abandoned ones as well) do not get announced. My goal with the re-write is to replicate existing functionality with an eye to adding new features after that.

So, Yes, it's being addressed in the re-write, but it won't be on the first version of that. I want to get it out (and live through the inevitable debug phase) and then start on the changes.

One (major) feature I have planned is the ability to open a quest watcher window that will show the selected party member's quests. This is much like the old JasonQuest used to do.

Could you do me a favor and put that request as a feature request? That will help me prioritize which features to put in.

Thank you,
-g

Sorry I missed this message ...

Yes, I will be. I have the beta access from the Diabo III release, but it currently isn't allowing me to put in Mods. But I'm still working on the Quest Watcher in the current expansion.

I have been pressed for time and haven't been able to devote hardly any time to this project lately, but things are looking up recently so I'll be getting back to it.

MoP Beta version up on WOW Interface

Go to ADDONS | Categories | Optional | Mists of Panderia Beta.

This is not the re-write I'm working on, just a port of the old one to MoP.

Please let me know of any bugs by using the bug tracker on my page

Thanks,

Yep, seems to do this upon random occasion

And I have no idea why. If it still occurs after the re-write I'll look into it.

If it's real repeatable, can you disable all of your other addons and give it a go and see what happens?

Thanks

World map intergration

hi there , ive been reading about your taking over of the addon and complete rewrite of the QG addon for MOP and i was wondering about some addition to the World map , currently it's just Blizzard's own Quest tracker to show there ( unless using other quest addon's ofc ) , but i Hate the quest number Bobs they show when a blue quest zone is highlighted ( i know there's is the hide function but it removes everything lol ) , i was wondering if you could implement a special hide function for only that bob / blob what ever there called really or if your willing to make your own version / replacement , and keep the blue highlighted quest area ? ( or if you want to add option for several other colour's .... ) , cuz those are easy / streamlined and ofc handy and i like them , tbh in some ways it would be nice to have a New Generation Quest Helper i always liked the way it worked in the world map and overall but since Cata it's been handed down to certain author's who up to this day still haven't been able to implement the Cata database into the addon .... , so i'm not having much fate in his MOP release as you can imagine lol , a Very old author of that same addon tried making Quest helper 2 but he hassent shown any signs of life since begin of 2012 =/ , and again the chance of it being abandoned is very high , i tried carbonite but i just don't like the look and feel they use to display everything , lol sorry talking about addon's like this , anyway i hope you understand my point i'm trying to make if even slightly ^^

Re: World map intergration

Yes, I am working on a complete re-write. But the re-write isn't ready for anything yet as I haven't had much real-life time to work on it. The current QuestGuru does have a MoP ready version in the MoP Beta area. I'll be publishing that to the normal places once the patch goes live.

I was not planning on any Quest Map modifications at this time. I admit that sometimes I think the number icons get in the way (Points Of Interest - POI) and wish I could change their transparency or strata so my character arrow could be seen when I'm near the objective. I havent thought about removing them although a transparency value of zero would accomplish that I think. I'm pretty sure you were asking about the numbered icon, not the larger blue/grey coloring indicating where the objective areas.

I liked Quest Helper as well and usually ran both of them back two expansions ago.

As always, place the request in the suggestion part for the add-on and we'll see. More requests for something similar gives it a better chance to get implemented.

After MoP goes live, I'm suspecting I will need to fix the current version to handle outlying cases.
