stText  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: r9
by: Soeters [More]

I've stopped playing WoW, so this addon won't be updated again, at least not by me.
If someone feels like updating it, just PM me.

What is this

stText is a little addon which display some informations like:

  • Time
  • Latency
  • Memory usage (now with a tooltip for the 35 addons which uses the most memory)
  • Location
  • Coordinates
  • Framerate
  • Durability (thanks to phrozenassid)

Customisation

In the screenshot you can see some text written in teal, it's a custom color. You can choose a custom color or set the classcolor instead.

All the settings can be changed in Settings.lua. The settings are the text size, justify and the modules enabled.

To unlock a module, just type /stt (or /sttext) (Name of the module) (i.e /stt Clock to unlock the clock, or /stt Memory to unlock the memory module)
By default they will all be crowded at the center of the screen.
If type /stt or /stt help (indeed if you type something that's not a module name) to have a list all available modules
To move them, hold the Alt key and drag them wherever you want.

r9
Independant module outlines
Separated coords from location

r8
Outline text
Independant module sizes

r7
12/24 time format
Slash command help

r6
Changed slash commands

r5
Durability module (thanks to phrozenassid)

r4
Toc bump

r3
Fixed the errors occuring when enabling an addon

r2
New placement management (SavedVariables)
Memory tooltip
Optional Files (0)

How is this better than LynStat and why would you say someone should use your addon instead of LynStat ?

That's because you have no glue of coding. In short this is raw lua code, and thus very lightweight. sldata is using ace libs.

LynStats doesn't show your location (LynLocation is separate), besides of that, it doesn't allow you to move frames ingame.

If anything this looks more like nClock, than LynStats.

@Soeters
Nice work.

I'm glad people like it. I made it because if found that SLDT has way too much options for what I wanted so I decided to do light equivalent which can still be customisable easily (with Settings.lua).

For the money I'll add this today, just before going on holidays somewhere I won't have the internet so I won't be able to update all my addons during two weeks.

I'll probably be making the switch over to this at some point in my UI, as I agree, SLDT is a bit bloated for what I use it for (admittedly, it does what it does wonderfully though). The only thing I'd like to see (and I end up custom coding some of this this into SLDT each new version) is the ability to use modifers+clicks on the clock to open the calendar/GEM/GroupCalendar/etc. This is a pretty lean mod, so I understand if you don't.

I may write an optionnal addon which does what you want (calendar/GEM) for the clock plugin.

the code for moving frames ingame is a 5-liner.. so no real argument.

lynstats is by far older than nclock so and it changed the look over 4 times so... again no argument.

@ author
simple good addon for the masses (who are too lazy to open an editor ), i like it. (no sarcasm etc ^^)

This was no argument against LynStats or nClock, but against this:

tbh this looks like a SLDT rip-off to me.

SLDT came after LynStats. They took LynStats and added too it.

If I remember correctly it was LynStats that started all of the "stats display with out titan/fubar" mods.

This is when enabling the Latency module. Also can you make it possible to leftclick or shift click the memory module to do a manual garbage collect?

Edit: Showing the increasing rate per addon or total would also be good (in kBs)

Thanks for reporting the bug, fixed in r3.

The memory garbage should be implemented in r4.

LynStat's came out after CML and SLDT. CML was created by Phanx but was kinda hidden in the old WoWAce directories before they heavily merged with Curse. SLDT was created right about at the same time as CML became popular in minimalist UI's.

CML was the original no config "text" stat AddOn.

Yes, I remember the first SL(insert name) addons by Taffu, which were kinda great but that I stop using when he stopped updating it.
