EventAlert  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 4.7.6
by: CurtisTheGreat [More]

The addon will notify you in the middle of your screen with an icon, name of the spell that has procced, the time left on the proc and will make a subtle sound. EventAlert is also able to handle more than one proc at a time (this option was not available in previous versions).

I am not fond of addons that have very complicated installation and setups. The mod should work on install without any config, but if you wish to change any options use the following command: /ea options
To see a more detailed list of what options are avaiable to the mod, just check out the screenshot of the options pane.

This mod tracks the following events/procs:

  • Death Knight
    • Cinderglacier (Runeforging)

    • Rime (Freezing Fog)

Quick Backstory: I created this addon as a test for myself as my first "from the ground up" addon. Most of my coding in WoW LUA was taking other addons and just fixing them so they work from minor bugs or whatnot.

Anyhow, I needed a mod that was lightweight and did only what I wanted it to do, and that was warn me when one of my spells or talents procced something I needed. Thus, EventAlert was born. There are likely to be bugs, explosions and not so good things that may come from this mod. I'm sorry in advance! If you find a bug, please let me know so I can fix it.

Also, if anyone finds a spell/talent/etc that they want watched, please let me know and I will add it!

4.7.6
Bugfix: Fixed problem with spell charges not showing up on alerts.
Bugfix: Fixed problem with alerts not showing when options changed without a reload.
Change: Added option to show/hide spell charges.

To see the full change log, view the changelog.txt file included in the EventAlert zip file.

Ok, I decided to release the bugfix instead of the full blown update to include more than one alert. The reason being is that I have to go out of town this weekend and need more time. So, for now, enjoy the bug free version.

I have been working on making EA show more than one proc at a time, which requires me re-coding the entire frame base of the mod. Because of that, I have to save the location of the frames differently. I think it will solve this problem. I hope to have something out later tonight.
Looking forward to it. Apart from that one bug it's a great mod that really REALLY helps me utilize procs during busy raid situations.

Flash Alert not working

I love this mod for my fury warrior... makes bloodsurge procs infinitely easier to recognize.

Anyways, I have a problem where the full screen flash alert doesn't work. It works when I toggle the alert with /ea opt, but in actual combat, it never flashes.

I'm playing on the Taiwanese servers if that has anything to do with it, and the problem persists even with no other addons.

randomly centered frame problem here too. WinXP, not read only and only happening since the last patch, so yeah, something on Blizzards site may have changed.

other than that minor annoyance it's a really great addon that I don't want to miss again. thanks for the work

One other piece of info (don't know if it means anything) -- The layout-local.txt file has an entry for EA_Options_Frame, but that's the only entry for EA. Shouldn't there be an entry for the actual EA frame and not just the options frame???
Ya, there should be an entry for EA_Frame in there.

This bug is really strange. I didn't change anything in EA at all that had anything to do with the positioning. I'm thinking changes in this last game patch had something to do with breaking the addon.

I'll change a few things and post a new version and see if that helps. Since I can't get it to replicate the problem, it's gonna be hard for me to personally track down, so all the info you all can get me (and are getting me) is great! Thanks for helping out and reporting anything you find.

What's strange is it saves it one session, then I log in later and it doesn't "remember". I have only seen issues like this if I disable a addon before logging in, causing it's positional data in layout-local to be cleared. I definitely never had the issue at all with previous versions, so I am suspecting something changed (as complicated as my UI is, nothing has changed within it that might lend itself to this issue). I'll do some more testing and see if I can pinpoint a culprit.

I'm not able to replicate the problem of moving the frame.

I unlock the frame, toggle the alert, move it, and re-lock the frame, then hit okay. I then quit WoW, log back in, and the alert is in the same place that I moved it.

The file that is changed when you move the frame is: \World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\ACCOUNTNAME\Server\Character\layout-local.txt

Those of you having the problem, check to make sure that the file is able to be written. (AKA not read-only). Are those of you having the issue using Windows Vista?

Any info you all can give me will help out quite a bit, since I can't get it to bug out like you all are able to.

I can confirm this is happening as well. What's especially strange is that it doesn't do it every reload either. I do use FluidFrames...did the frame usage of EventAlert change in a way that might be affected by that? I only mention that because some frames don't retain their position unless i move them with FluidFrames instead of the original addon (such as Combustor).
