EventAlert  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 4.7.6
by: CurtisTheGreat [More]

The addon will notify you in the middle of your screen with an icon, name of the spell that has procced, the time left on the proc and will make a subtle sound. EventAlert is also able to handle more than one proc at a time (this option was not available in previous versions).

I am not fond of addons that have very complicated installation and setups. The mod should work on install without any config, but if you wish to change any options use the following command: /ea options
To see a more detailed list of what options are avaiable to the mod, just check out the screenshot of the options pane.

This mod tracks the following events/procs:

  • Death Knight
    • Cinderglacier (Runeforging)
    • Dark Transformation

Quick Backstory: I created this addon as a test for myself as my first "from the ground up" addon. Most of my coding in WoW LUA was taking other addons and just fixing them so they work from minor bugs or whatnot.

Anyhow, I needed a mod that was lightweight and did only what I wanted it to do, and that was warn me when one of my spells or talents procced something I needed. Thus, EventAlert was born. There are likely to be bugs, explosions and not so good things that may come from this mod. I'm sorry in advance! If you find a bug, please let me know so I can fix it.

Also, if anyone finds a spell/talent/etc that they want watched, please let me know and I will add it!

4.7.6
Bugfix: Fixed problem with spell charges not showing up on alerts.
Bugfix: Fixed problem with alerts not showing when options changed without a reload.
Change: Added option to show/hide spell charges.

To see the full change log, view the changelog.txt file included in the EventAlert zip file.

Curtis, what would you think if I took EA and renamed it to BuffAlert or something, and basically rewrote a couple functions so that it would only alert when you're missing a class buff you should have?

Then Thantik or anyone else could just install both, and get both the + and - sides of reminders for when they need to do things.

Yeah, just looks like I'll have to move over to Power Auras Classic then. Thanks for such a great mod, I used it for a couple months with much delight -- I just figured missing 1-2 buffs would just be the negative of reacting to buffs that you procd

I've had requests for this in the past, but really isn't within the scope of this mod. The purpose of this mod is to alert you when you need to take some kind of action on a buff or skill that just procced, rather than reminding you that you are missing buffs.

I may add it in the future as an extension to the addon, but it would be quite a while before I do this. Sorry!

Could you add the ability to watch for your class-specific buffs as well and alert you to their missing? -- For example I play my warrior and it's a pain to remember battleshout (OR) commanding shout. It would be nice if EA could alert me to these things as well. (Another example is prot paladin, warn if no seal is up, warn if no righteous fury is up (only if spec'd down into prot), etc)

I'm glad you're enjoying it. Thanks for the bug reports and I will work on getting the features you want added.

lol Yes, I do want it bigger in fact. I play on a 1920x1200 monitor with the UI scale set to 70% so I can fit lots of stuff on there, and the EA frames at maximum size are currently about the size of one of the unitframes on my Grid setup. I'd say when you can make it so big you'd think nobody could possibly want it that big, you'll probably have it perfect for me.

As for changing the growth options, I found a workaround for now, I just edited the values in the savedvars file after logging out to be the nice even integers I needed. So no rush on adding that functionality in, although I do think that should be somewhat of a priority for others like myself.

Anyways, fantastic work with this mod, it's got a lot more supported spells than Nao had, it's an absolute delight having this in my UI now!

I'll check that out.

Feature: Could you allow the size to scale a bit more? There's so much going on in combat that even with the various alert options, I still miss procs. Having the alert frame EVEN BIGGER should make it impossible for me to miss.
You need it bigger than what it goes now? I can change the scaling to be a bit more sensitive, and thus allowing it bigger than it can go now.

Feature: Please make it easier to change the orientation of multiple alert frames. e.g., My mage procs Fireball! and Fingers of Frost, and they line up next to each other. However, I want to arrange them vertically, growing upwards. I'm pretty close just playing with the horizontal and vertical spacing sliders, but I can't get it to be perfectly straight. Without completely revamping your positioning system, what about a dropdown with the options to grow Up, Down, Left or Right, which then sets spacing on both axes to an appropriate value, as calculated based on your icon size?
That shouldn't be too terrible to do. I will look into it and see if I can find another way to do it, so that it's easier to change how they expand.

I've been using Nao since the day I saw it first released, and have been loving it. I was very sad when the author seemed to stop caring about it, so I've been manually patching that addon through the various patches since then for my own personal use. I think this may FINALLY give me something updated to migrate to! Thank you so much!

I can has one bug report, and two feature requests for you, though:

Yes, I did it and yes I'm using the latest version. Plus I tried it once by deleting all other addons and WTF, still didn't work on Fingers of Frost. Works very good with all others.

Thanks for your reply.
I'll check it out, thank you for the report.

4.2.28 - Checked reports of events not working. As of now, they all have been tested to work... if you are still having issues with particular items not reporting,
try closing WoW, deleting your EvenAlert saved variables file, then restarting WoW. If you still have issues after that please let me know on WoWInterface or Curse.
