Polite Whisper  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: trunk build #46
by: Hafeliel [More]

Suppose you need to find a couple more people to do a dungeon run, but there's no one looking in the automated LFG, your guild is busy, and none of your friends are on. You may even have asked in general chat, on the trade channel, and yelled in a major city, but no one is responding.

The last resort, we all know, is doing a /who and whispering people who would compliment the group you have already. Sending a lot of whispers is easy with cut and paste, but keeping track of the replies is enough to drive you mad. This mod does all of these things and helps you keep organized. It makes sure you don't ask anyone twice and that no response gets lost in the flood of replies.

Other features include:

* A do not invite list, so you don't bother whispering those people you'd rather not group with.

* A drop-down list of dungeons. The mod automatically fills in appropriate levels for each.

* Pops up a warning if you accidentally group with someone on your do not invite list (in case you're not the leader or you join someone else's group).

* Buttons for common responses, like 'No problem. Sorry to have bothered you.' and a description of the classes and levels you have so far in your group.

* A button to remember a custom question you ask everyone before inviting them. Perhaps whether they are attuned or have some needed equipment.

* A small chat window for talking to one user at a time, without the clutter of incoming messages from other respondees.

* Option of viewing a user's guild name instead of their zone (if you prefer that sort of thing).

* (Untested) co-operation with CensusPlus, if you use that mod.

Notes:

* Type '/pw' to pull up Polite Whisper or click the PW button next to your mini-map.

* Users in dungeons or battlegrounds will not show up in searches, to keep you from pestering people who are busy.

* PW will not pester anyone again who has responded to an earlier whisper. PW will re-add players who do not respond for 10 minutes (5 minutes if they were AFK at the time of the first whisper) to the list and allow you to pester them again.

* Language is automatically detected. If you have the English client but want to use German, you will need to edit the localization.lua file and uncomment the appropriate line at the bottom of the file.

* PLEASE DO NOT POST REQUESTS TO ALLOW THE CUSTOMIZATION OF WHISPERS. I am not adding that feature.

HeadHunter doesn't collate replies, tweak the whisper based on class/preferences, nor track your opinions of users once you group with them (so you can make wiser choices next time). PoliteWhisper is everything HeadHunter wanted to be, but failed to accomplish. Try them both and I know which one you will have disabled by next week.

Click on the Zone column heading. That will cycle through Zone, Guild, and the Notes you have left previously. Plus, PoliteWhisper colors the player's name based on the slider rating you have given them, so you can tell at a glance who is a keeper and who is a last resort.

Right, I've tried this out for a few days, here's my thoughts
Global LFG was good, the LFG interface that is in operation now sucks big time.
This addon is brilliant,
-couple of clicks and you've got a list of people that would be suitable,
-another click to send a VERY polite whisper detailing what it is you are looking for (there are dropdown menus next to all the classes that can perform different roles. eg: Druid-Tank, Healer, DPS. So the whisper tells them what you need)
-Wait for reply, invite.

Then once you've got your team together, there's a nice interface with a happy/sad slider and a comment box for each player, and a blacklist for really rubbish players.

just one thing, is there a way to see the comments and scores you've given people, without being grouped with them?

Nice but...

So, no adding custom tells eh? I see your threat good sir and raise you Head-Hunter, the add-on that does exactly what yours does but with the customized tells. Your move.

I agree with the idea behind this addon. I see some minor ability to abuse it (excessive clicking of "ask" before responses are given), but as I myself have witnessed, you could send out 10 tells, and only get 5 replies - of which 4 decline. Keeping track of those tells sent with my awesome short term memory is very taxing, as I have better things to concentrate on: like pizza and beer.

Finding a well built group for success, non-dependent on guild-mates and "friends" (which remember is also a crap-shoot for their ability to actually play the toon they have), is more and more difficult, even more so now than before since the expansion and the influx of players trying new classes and races.

I completely agree that spamming in any open channel repeatedly is annoying, rude, and subject to all harassment one receives from doing so. But this seems to be much lower key and organized to boot (my anal-retentiveness is happy for that)!

I'll test this as well and give some feedback when I can.

Industrial - This addon does not automatically PM lots of people, you are in complete control.
What it does do is help you to find exactly what you are looking for quickly and easily, and keep track of people that declined, also has a feature to make notes for the people that you have grouped with in the past.

This addon is brilliant, thanks for making it!

asking in trade is not a good idea
yelling is not a good idea

PMING LOTS OF PEOPLE AT THE SAME TIME IS IDIOTIC

what about the people that are too late for your little 5man? "oh sorry we are full"? wtf you just asked me if i wanted to go.

it is not pollite at _all_ it is rude.

just wait for the fricken LFG channel to come back and dont harass people.
