LightHeaded  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v100002-1.0.0-2022-12-15
by: Cladhaire [More]

Classic not updated at the moment, only retail.

LightHeaded is a very simple addon that displays quest information and comments from http://www.wowhead.com in game, eliminating the need to Alt-Tab when you get stuck on quest. This addon was inspired by qcomments and wowhead_quests, which both serve a similar purpose. Data is only loaded when you first request it, so you can be sure you're not using more memory than you need to.

I HIGHLY suggest using this addon with TomTom, another one of my addons (http://www.wowinterface.com/download...32-TomTom.html ). This allows you to simply click any coordinate in LightHeaded to add it to your map as a waypoint.

The following slash commands are valid:
  • /lh attach - Attaches the frame to the quest log
  • /lh detach - Detaches the frame, allows you to resize and move it
  • /lh sound - Toggles the open/close sound
  • /lh page - Toggles showing all comments on one page, or with multiple pages
  • /lh bgalpha <0.0-1.0> - Changes the alpha of the LH window background textures, so you can see the world.
  • /lh debug - Enables or disabled debug messages when loading quest databases
  • /lh config - Opens the LightHeaded configuration window
  • /lh autodetails - Toggle automatic opening of the Lightheaded window when clicking a quest in the objective tracker

LightHeaded now includes the English descriptions and introductory text for most of the quests in the game. This is disabled by default, but can be enabled for those players that are not playing in their native locale.

LightHeaded supports sending coordinates to TomTom, MapNotes, Cartographer2 and Cartographer3.

IMPORTANT: Addon authors that wish to use this API and data should
include the wowhead logo in the frame that displays this information.
They are kind enough to let me continue parsing their database, and we
owe them at least that much. Thank you.

Thanks for using my addons!

Updated 2022-12-15 for retail.

Heya!

I'm currently using this mod together with a bunch of others, and It appears that randomly, the mod breaks down completely, often after I've checked the cords or clicked a blue hyperlink and then complete a quest, or just simply closing my questlog.

Whenever the errors happens, I'm stuck with whatever screen I had up at the moment, and unable to view any of the cords, changing quest in the questlog does however let me view the "first" page of the quest, but it won't allow me to click any links. Reloading my UI clears the error completely, but it still happens far to often

I'm not using any questlog mods, as far as I know, my list is down there :P

Hrm, I am fairly certain that the Auctionator errors have nothing to do with LightHeaded, ESPECIALLY if they're happening immediately on login. I'm not quite sure how to help you with that one =)

I guess I missed that about r308. I'll start over with r310.

1. Update LightHeaded to r310
I used to manually update AddOns by deleting the old folder before copying the new one, even when I started using the Curse Client to update. When a rep from curse.com assured me that the client does that, I quit the manual updates and let curse do it. I hope.
Anyway, this time I manually deleted all of the LightHeaded AddOn folders, and also deleted the account and the test character SavedVariables lua files for LH. Then copied r310 to AddOns.

2 See if it functions correctly alone.
I logged on the test character and yes it seems to function correctly, as far as the quest log functions. However, after I logged off and back on I am now getting four or five errors pointing at Auctionator, each for a different one of several items in my bag, like this one for item = Ironbite Shell:

Code:
Auctionator-2.6.3\AuctionatorHints.lua:230: attempt to index global 'gAtr_ScanDB' (a nil value)
Auctionator-2.6.3\AuctionatorAPI.lua:47: in function `Atr_GetAuctionBuyout'
Broker_Garbage-3.3v29\core.lua:418: in function `GetSingleItemValue'
Broker_Garbage-3.3v29\helper.lua:523: in function `UpdateCache'
Broker_Garbage-3.3v29\helper.lua:554: in function `GetCached'
Broker_Garbage-3.3v29\core.lua:638: in function `ScanInventoryContainer'
Broker_Garbage-3.3v29\core.lua:68: in function <Broker_Garbage\core.lua:47>

Locals:
item = "|Hitem:28061:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:71[Ironbite Shell]"
sellval = nil
origGetAuctionBuyout = nil
  ---
3. If it does, enable QuestGuru and attempt to reproduce the issue.
Ignoring the Auctionator errors for now and concentrating on the quest log problem, it seems to be gone. Either the curse client doesn't delete the old folders like I was told, or deleting the SavedVariables did the trick.
But I don't remember seeing the Auctionator errors when I tried r310 before, so I am confused about that. The errors pop up immediately on logon.
I haven't tried to troubleshoot the new errors, like deleting the Auctionator SavedVariables, or even disabling Auctionator to confirm the errors go away without it... it's past my bedtime.

Thank you so much for your support.

Because the data files are in a subdirectory, on Windows it can be very easy to copy all the files and miss the Data directory. This could leave you with old data when you think you have the latest.

Personally, I always suggest removing the LightHeaded directory and reinstalling the new one, it's always clean, and you're always sure that it's been done correctly. I even package the addon in a way to make this as easy as possible.

I hope that answers your question?
It does, thanks.

Thanks.

For the record, there are two issues that are going on here. One is that WowHead changed their data to include a comma in the amount of experience gained by a character. So what used to be 2450 because 2,450. This works fine for most purposes, but conflicts with some code that was contributed by a user of the addon to convert that experience amount into the correct amount of gold. That code uses implicit numeric/string conversions and those fail when the thousands separator is included. 308 was an attempt to fix that in part, but I didn't quite get it 100% until r310. At this point, I'm fairly confident the parser is getting the correct data into the data files, and will work on the code to make it more robust in the future.

308 has issues that 310 doesn't, so I'm not interested in seeing anything with r308. There are no code changes from 304 through 310, so I would need specific information about what is happening and when.

I can't reproduce these issues, and I unfortunately don't have the time to chase down already fixed bugs with lots of other issues going on. If you'd like to do the following:

1. Update LightHeaded to r310, and ENSURE 100% that you've done it correctly. This means completely remove the entire LightHeaded folder before doing anything else, then install r310 from scratch. You can easily update JUST the code of the addon which will then show that you have r310, when in fact you're using r308's data, which is obviously broken.

2 See if it functions correctly alone. If not, report the issue (i do not ever need a full list of the addons you are running, just the traceback).

3. If it does, enable QuestGuru and attempt to reproduce the issue.

If you find the problem persists, report the PRECISE actions you were taking, the quest id of the quest you were clicking on (or at least the name), and the level of the character.

This all being said, I don't know of any issues with r310 that have been reported.

I am also getting multiple errors when opening the quest log and selecting quests in the log if I have LH r308 or r310 installed. With some characters, when I click on certain quest log entries another group of errors pops up and the quest log won't switch to that quest's details. Below is the first error I see after logging on and immediately on opening the quest log. If I downgrade back to r306 I no longer see any of the errors.
Update:
I am using QuestGuru 1.4.1 for my quest log. If I disable QuestGuru while LH r310 is installed, I see none of the errors. Darn it, I would hate to give up either QuestGuru or LightHeaded.

New version uploaded that should fix both of these issues, as far as I can tell.

In r306 I didn't see any oddities on clicking quests and, as I don't normally minimize quest zone headers, didn't see a bug there either (in limited usage). The bug thrown up specifically mentions an error on a line in Lightheaded. 100% identical other-mod load on the same character with each of the two revisions tested here. The behaviors should be the same with earlier revisions as well if there was some sort of messing going on, but they aren't.

Testing further with just a LDB display, bug catchers & so on active, no problems with minimizing the quest zone headers in the log or clicking other quests. That behavior is the same as what you mention.

So some change between r304 (or r306) and r308 is having problems playing nicely with other mods. Other quest mods running here on the leveling alt have seen the r308 problems on: ("latest versions" from WowAce, Github or WoWI or Curse, and there may be others haven't mentionined affecting the log): BetterQuest, AtlasQuest, Natch's AtlasQuest Helper, Broker - QuestCount, TourGuide, TourGuide_Jame (from Google Code), QuestClicks, QuestHistory_Felstone & QuestPointer.
Well I cannot troubleshoot this from my end of things. I know the error is appearing in LightHeaded, but that is a misdiagnosis without any more information. Any error message can name any addon and there's no direct implication of the problem.

There were 0 code changes from r304 to r308. I also cannot reproduce this issue in r308. The only changes were in the data files, and the only change that I am aware of is the formatting change in the experience listing, which has already been reported. Perhaps the next parse update will fix this, but I make no promises about that being the case. I'm not sure what more I can do at this point..

And when there's a new patch I update frequently. When there's a new CONTENT patch. I'm not about wasting my time when nothing is actually changing, and that is frequently the case. As I've said, I'll continue trying to update, but I won't make any promises to do it on a certain schedule because we both know that any schedule is going to be difficult to keep to.

thanks for your efforts with this!
The person four down from you reported the same issue and I've already responded re: this.

That being said, yes, I will try to keep up to date on it.
