LightHeaded  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v100002-1.0.0-2022-12-15
by: Cladhaire [More]

Classic not updated at the moment, only retail.

LightHeaded is a very simple addon that displays quest information and comments from http://www.wowhead.com in game, eliminating the need to Alt-Tab when you get stuck on quest. This addon was inspired by qcomments and wowhead_quests, which both serve a similar purpose. Data is only loaded when you first request it, so you can be sure you're not using more memory than you need to.

I HIGHLY suggest using this addon with TomTom, another one of my addons (http://www.wowinterface.com/download...32-TomTom.html ). This allows you to simply click any coordinate in LightHeaded to add it to your map as a waypoint.

The following slash commands are valid:
  • /lh attach - Attaches the frame to the quest log
  • /lh detach - Detaches the frame, allows you to resize and move it
  • /lh sound - Toggles the open/close sound
  • /lh page - Toggles showing all comments on one page, or with multiple pages
  • /lh bgalpha <0.0-1.0> - Changes the alpha of the LH window background textures, so you can see the world.
  • /lh debug - Enables or disabled debug messages when loading quest databases
  • /lh config - Opens the LightHeaded configuration window
  • /lh autodetails - Toggle automatic opening of the Lightheaded window when clicking a quest in the objective tracker

LightHeaded now includes the English descriptions and introductory text for most of the quests in the game. This is disabled by default, but can be enabled for those players that are not playing in their native locale.

LightHeaded supports sending coordinates to TomTom, MapNotes, Cartographer2 and Cartographer3.

IMPORTANT: Addon authors that wish to use this API and data should
include the wowhead logo in the frame that displays this information.
They are kind enough to let me continue parsing their database, and we
owe them at least that much. Thank you.

Thanks for using my addons!

Updated 2022-12-15 for retail.

This thing is pretty slick. Refreshing alternative to Cart Quest Objectives.
WoW modified The Eastern Plagueland Zone Map; threw off databases stored locations of nodes and waypoints there.

Aye, I've considered putting in a way to map new to old.. but I'm not sure how best that would be done. Comments can't really be automatically updated unfortunately =/

This works to a point, as I tried it...but when you have several addons mucking things up, it's hard to tell where to split...at any rate, the logic persists. I just wish there were some OTHER mod that could detect such collision/interference.

There is a better way! Rather than doing it one at a time, do it in halfs. Enable half of your addons, if they don't cause the problem... disable that half and enable the other half.. One of the two of them is likely to cause the problem. When they do.. split that half into two new halfs, and do the same thing.

Only take logarithmic time :P

That is exactly what i did, and it worked to a point. I finally got LH to work properly, but I am still not sure what AddOn was causing the conflict. I just had to disable a bunch that I rarely used and finally it worked. I thought I had it figured out at one point, then I re enabled all of the AddOns except the 1, and still had the conflict.... so i am guessit was more that 1 AddOn that was causing the problem. I just have no firm idea, which 1 it is.

On a side note... the latest version of LH no longer has pages? it is all scrolling? Just want to make sure my LH is reacting correctly

Thanks for all the help

LightHeaded has pages, you just need to enable them. See the documentation (in particular /lh page).

Next try to solve comma-damaged coordinates in DE client

Hi Cladhaire,

also with your patch in r250, coordinates in my DE client come up as xx,xx instead of xx.xx. This is my fault: my suggestion, the bug might be in string.format() seems wrong and was misleading. I played around a bit, always had the comma where it shouldnt be and finally replaced line 405 in LighHeaded.lua r250 from

return string.format( etc...

to a hard coded

return "44.55:66.77"

just to see what happens. the result was a disgusting "44,55:66,77", but makes clear that the problem cannot be fixed here, because things go wrong later.

Sounds to me that Blizzard decided to do decimal point localisation brute force by some string.gsub() on all output that is sent to the screen. I dont know where this happens, but I suppose it can not be fixed in a .lua at all. So I see no other help than doing the same thing the other way round when the coordinates are fed back to LighHeaded. I added two lines of code at line 738/739, of lightheaded.lua r250

x = string.gsub(x,",",".")
y = string.gsub(y,",",".")

just between grabbing the coordinate strings from the link and tomumber() them back to floats. Works fine for me, shouldnt hurt in en/us clients, full decimal accuracy.

I already have this fixed, as I've stated multiple times. I will NOT be doing a gsub on the resulting string.. that just workd around a bug and in fact relies on it. Doing this via math is trivial and always works.

I am also very aware of what the actual bug is, and have reported it to Blizzard. Thanks.

Then please explain, what you think what the bug is. I know that my fix is a workaround and far from a clean solution. But I dont know wether a clean solution is available at the moment. All I can see in my DE client is that your solution by math does NOT solve the problem. And if you read my post again, you can see how I tried to proof why and what happens. If the discussion is, that my solution is that damn ugly that you prefer to wait for a fix from blizzard rather than bringing things back to work until we wait for them - ok, its your code and I will never force you to put anything in you dont like.

The only thing I wonder is why you make me feel that my efforts to actually help solving a problem you cant even see in your client are somehow answered on the same level as dumb RTFM questions. I never ment to act as a smartass, but somehow your answers sound like I am disturbing you. hm.

Added: If I can provide any further help, e.g. test anything for you in a DE client, please do not hesitate to ask.

Re: Re: Re: Next try to solve comma-damaged coordinates in DE client

I sincerely apoligize, I didn't mean to answer you in a curt way, but the conversation had ended a day or two ago when we arrived at an acceptable solution. This version has not been pushed out yet because I was downloading the deDE language pack to make sure it behaves as expected.

In short, unless you made the code changes I specified, you wouldn't have the latest version available, and I know that version does not work properly. Your comments however caused me to look at a few different things and I can indeed clarify that the issue is with the actual display of the text.. and things being "underhandedly" localized.

After playing with it for a bit in both enGB and deDE I think I have a solution that should "work".. I just have to play with it a bit more. Thnak you for your help.

Hey, sorry if this was said somewhere, but will Lightheaded be updated with WOTLK quests when it comes out?

Thank you.

Okay, as far as the coordinate issue goes, here's what we've found out thanks to Taus troubleshooting. The issue actually lies in each display widget in the game, converting what it thinks are numbers into the "right" format. This breaks in the specific instance we're trying to use it here, so I've instituted the following:

There is now a LightHeaded:GetCoordText(x, y) function that will return the properly formatted coordinate text for an x, y pair. This can be localized within the addon so we can make them specific if necessary. Currently the following rules apply:

If the locale is deDE - 45,00, 61,00
By default - 45.00, 61.00
If the locale uses comma separators - 45,00; 61,00

We can make it more specific as necessary, but from my testing on an enGB client and a deDE client it seems to "work". Please let me know if you run into any issues with it, and thanks for your patience.

Since ages I have this error. Using QuestFu, and when I click on a quest on the fubar questfu bar that gives the details from the quest in a little popup window (just like selecting quest log and pointing to a quest in there so you see the details):

LightHeaded-252\LightHeaded.lua:117: attempt to compare number with string

Could you pls check this issue out please?

howdy 2 part question.

1 - When are you going to release the WoWhead extraction for lighthead with the northrend content? or has it happened already?

2- I know that because of wotlk changes to places like EP and SW, some of the tomtom coords are going to be weird. (factoring the new harbor in SW)

my question is, did the coords change in SW or just get adjusted, some of the wowhead WP's point to areas on the map that are unreachable, but I think I have the latest version of astrolab.

anyway, just a question.
