Grid  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 8.0.1.1
by: Phanx [More]

Grid has been continued as Plexus by Doadin. Use that instead; Grid has not been updated since 2018 and will not be updated in the future.

Grid is a compact and highly configurable party/raid unit frame addon.
The compact grid of unit frames lets you select a group member quickly, while keeping a good overview of the whole group. It shows as much information as possible without overloading you. It allows you to customize what information you see, and how you see it. It works in both party and raid groups, and supports pets and vehicles.

Want more features? The Grid core tries to include only features which are generally useful for all classes and roles, but makes it easy to add new features with a simple plugin API for developers. Over 75 third-party plugins are already available!

Type “/grid” for options, or right-click the minimap button, DataBroker launcher, or Grid frame tab.

Language Support
Grid is compatible with all World of Warcraft localizations. It is currently translated into English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, Русский, 한국어, 简体中文, and 繁體中文.

To add or update translations for any language, enter them on the WowAce project page. New and updated translations will be automatically included in the next version of Grid!

HINT: The WowAce interface for adding translations is quite cumbersome. To make the process easier, you can use the Export function on WowAce, copy the exported data into your text editor, fill in your translations, and then paste them back into WowAce using the Import function.
Credits
Grid was originally conceived and written by Maia and Pastamancer in late 2006. Phanx has been the primary developer since late 2009. Jerry wrote the original pet support code. Mikk designed the icon. jlam added some advanced options for auras. Greltok has helped a lot with bugfixing. Finally, lots of people have contributed translations!

At this time there are no plans to add additional GUI options for configuring the background. You can change the backdrop by editing the appropriate SetBackdrop call in GridFrame.lua. If you need more detailed help, post a thread on the forums.

Is there a way to disable the background gradient? I'm currently deleting lines in the .lua's like a 3-year old playing minesweeper. A bit off idiot-proof GUI for this would be nice.

It sounds like you may be better served by one of the auto-layout plugins. Or, you could write your own layout. Otherwise, setting the backdrop and border alpha to 0 is the intended method of hiding the background.

Hi,
I recently decided to give this addon a try, but to be honest I find the whole layout system a bit annoying. I want to see all raid members, regardless of which raid difficulty is set. Do I have to set all layouts to 40 man? But I'd rather the backdrop didn't expand to fit a full 40 man raid. Can this be made auto adjusted? Or is there any way to hide it except setting background and border alpha to 0?

Thanks

GridStatusRole is a third-party plugin, and is not maintained by the Grid team. Error messages or other problems relating to third-party plugins should be reported on the plugin's ticket tracker or download page; even if the plugin is maintained by someone who also helps maintain Grid, it is a separate addon, and any problems with it are totally separate from Grid itself.

Question Raid Icons

Is there a way to show the Raid Icons on grid? Sometimes we'll slap raid icons on our tanks so we can see where they are during a fray. Is there a way to have those show on Grid?

Thanks

No. The four characters in "+1.1" actually take up less space than the four characters that are normally shown in the exact same location for someone's name...

Hello,

Is it possible to adjust the numbers to not display the decimals?

Example: change from +1.1 to +1

It takes a lot of precious space.

Thank you.

Yeah, any time you manually type something into an editable field, you have to press Enter. Profile copies use a dropdown, so as soon as you click something, it takes.

Uh... not at all. I just went to change corner size, pressed enter, and it took. I'm as embarrassed as I am sorry for wasting your time. I remember the first time I wanted to copy a profile from a profile. I didn't have to press enter, it just took. And it's been so long since the last time I configured Grid, I didn't remember having to press enter at all. Maybe the profile thing was what I was thinking.

Thanks again and sorry again.

So... something just occurred to me while poking around in the Frame > Advanced menu in-game and trying to think of what the problem could be... you mentioned putting the cursor into a field and typing a value. Are all of the settings you're having trouble with "range" settings (eg. there is a slider bar and a text field) ? After you type a value, are you pressing Enter (stupid question, I know)? Finally, how are you accessing the options -- are you accessing them through the window-style GUI, or the dropdown menus?

Thank you for that explanation as well as your continued help. Though the explanation boggles my mind as to how this can be that much more. Why would some and only some options just refuse to be written to memory?

This is the chat log from just logging in with just Grid enabled:

http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/9472/tempu.jpg

As the timestamps might suggest, the redundancies you see are NOT copy/paste errors on my part. Also, I was floating above Krasus' Landing in Dalaran in flight form, so I couldn't possibly have been considered to have been "in combat."

The last time I had Grid debugging on, just logging in did not produce near as much text. Is this because I'm currently using the "old" Grid with the new Libs whereas last time, it was uniform?

When I went to frame, advanced, enable center text 2 (this is a setting that has consistently worked), the chat log then said

(DEBUG) GridFrame [03:06:50.733] UpdateOptionsMenu()
(DEBUG) GridFrame [03:06:50.733] indicator barcolor is diabled

When I went to change corner size (consistently not worked), no new text was generated.

As a goof, I went to change corner size. Then immediately toggled enable center text 2. Corner size was instantly reverted to default (6). This is interesting (to me) because usually I can change the setting, move my mouse cursor to another field and proceed. I usually have to close the options screen and open it back up to see that it is still default.

I hope all this helps because I don't have access to another PC. I will say that I've used Grid with Windows 2000 and XP without issue. I believe you when you say that you're certain it's not a Windows 7 issue. It's just that it's always worked fine for me, until I installed Windows 7 AND 3.35 went live. That's two variables, but both are weeded out as potential culprits, eh?

When you log in, each addon is loaded into memory, and the contents of its saved variables files (if any) are also loaded into memory. When you log out, the copy of the addon in memory is discarded, and any variables that were listed as "saved variables" are written out to the saved variables file(s) for that addon. In between those events, WoW has zero concept of files. Everything is stored in memory; that's why if you terminate the WoW process, you lose any changes you made to any settings. It's also why you have to reload the UI before WoW notices any file changes, and why you must be logged out of WoW before making any manual changes to saved variables files. In fact, all game data operates this way; hence, you must log out before deleting the Cache.

When you go to Frame > Advanced > Corner Size, no file is read or written to. It's all in memory, until you log out. Furthermore, Grid stores all of its settings in a single table, which is written to a single file.

So, I'm pretty confident that whatever is causing your problem, it is not a Windows 7 file permissions issue. If that were the case, you would see all settings for a particular addon failing to preserve any changes between login sessions, but everything would run normally in-game.

Having said that, do you have access to any other computers? If so, try copying your entire WoW folder to another computer, including WTF and Interface, and seeing if the same thing occurs.

At this point the only other thing I can think of is to ask you to screenshot the debug messages from Grid and GridFrame that appear when you log in with only Grid enabled, change a setting that works, and then change a setting that does not work. I don't really expect to see anything that would shed more light on the problem, but I'm not sure what else to do, either.
