Ever wish you could jot down important notes about an item somewhere handy? Well what better place than on the item! Engravings allows you to attach any text you want to an item's tooltip.
Engravings now includes a comprehensive listing of boss drops, PvP gear, and token rewards. More data is planned.

When I have Engravings enabled, it prevents Altoholic from populating the tooltip for items in tradeskill windows. I don't get any information about other alts having the items. When I turn Engravings off, it works as it should.
-Barleduq, off to file these last three on Github.
I haven't figured out if there's anything in particular that causes this. It happens when I move my mouse and it ends up moving over ... things. This one happened when I had my cooking window open on an L60 toon. Available icons that might have triggered it include Small Eggs, Holiday Spirits, Winter Veil Egg Nog (the recipe that was open).
It's happened on other toons, and other items, in my bags, my key bar, my guild banks....
Thank you, very much, for updating! However, on logging in the first time I got this error. I note that it kept the rest of my addons from loading. Upon disabling and reloading, things worked fine.
I had installed this over the one I got from the datamining branch on the github site. If I should have done something else, please let me know? I had also made a copy of my old Engravings folder, to make sure no data was lost. What would be the best way to get that information back? I haven't added any new info since everything exploded.
Tekkub, thanks for such an awesome addon, i just love being able to add notes to any items. so useful!
one request i would really love to have is to display the item level of ANY/ALL items in-game. so i'm not talking about all the addons that show an item level of gear, just to display blizzard's sometimes hidden, item level of any item.
i see you have an option for itemID, is it a possibility to add an item level?
many thanks for the fantastic addon, and for your consideration of adding item level. *bows*
Thank you so much for making such as useful addon, that has been lacking/missing from the community. i was using another called "Item Notes" but this is much more versatile, and working
I thought I would mention one thing that would be really great, at least to me, I would like to see the ability to change the color for the custom note engraving that we can make for any item. I think it would be really nice to have it stand out with a different color than the rest of the info - as an option. Do you think that would be possible? or is it possible right now?
Thanks for all your hard work and commitment to the wow community. Much appreciated!
Just wondering if this is going to be updated at all for MoP - does it need it? Also, where does it keep its data? Hubby wiped my WoW directory completely when he made the linux box able to deal with the Agent Update file, and I'm hoping to find my engravings on a backup...
about Engravings Unable to show DropNPCs and DropLocations
I‘m a chinese wower I like use Engravings and localization it。
But now Engravings Unable to show DropNPCs and DropLocations
the wow version is 4.3
I think you must Modify code。
DropLocations:
if select(4, GetBuildInfo()) >= 40200 then return end
local DROP_LOCATIONS = [[
21907 能源舰
]]
Engravings["掉落副本:"] = setmetatable({}, {
__index = function(t,i)
local v = DROP_LOCATIONS:match("\n"..i.." ([^\n]+)\n")
if v then t[i] = v; return v
else t[i] = false; return end
end
})
DropNPCs:
if select(4, GetBuildInfo()) >= 40200 then return end
local DROP_NPC = [[
21907 计算者帕萨雷恩
]]
Engravings["掉落首领:"] = setmetatable({}, {
__index = function(t,i)
local v = DROP_NPC:match("\n"..i.." ([^\n]+)\n")
if v then t[i] = v; return v
else t[i] = false; return end
end
})
please Modify code for your fans,thank you very much。
Originally posted by Hammamelis This is exactly what i'm looking for for my loot council. I can engrave which items are BIS for which class/specs. However, how can i pass the engraved data onto the other members of the loot council once i have them all engraved correctly?
Is there a file i can just post for them to download?
Engravings are stored in the file:
[Your WoW folder]\WTF\Account\[Your account name]\SavedVariables\Engravings.lua
I think it also contains your settings of what to show on the tooltip.
About the WowHead ratings, I'm suspecting that the data-miner does not take (all?) stats of '<Random enchantment>' items into account. For example, for item [Soul-Sealed Belt of the Beast] it will show a lower score than many items with inferior stats.
Check this screenshot:
Frost tank score 60% lower with more armor, more stamina and more agility?
