Geist  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 100105.1
by: Cidrei [More]

Geist seems to be working fine with Dragonflight. Let me know if anything crops up.

Geist is incompatible with addons using LibActionButton-1.0, including ElvUI. This is not a bug so much as two incompatible button systems. Geist uses the built-in ActionButton functionality provided by WoW while buttons generated by LibActionButton-1.0 use custom code to achieve their goals. As this is not a bug in Geist, I have no intentions of figuring out a workaround at this time. My apologies for any inconvenience this causes.

Geist provides a twenty-five button action bar that displays under the mouse cursor at a keypress for quick and convenient access. Geist includes Masque support for button skinning.

How to use: Bind a key to Geist using the keybinding interface in the menu. Geist will display whenever that key is pressed with the mouse over the center button.

Cannot find bind key

I can't find the button that allows me to bind a key to Geist, nor can I find it in my in-game list of Addons. As such I cannot use it. What do I do..?

If there was some event that fired when I alt tabbed out of or into the game, I imagine this would be easy to fix. I remember some 'dungeon finger alert'/'whisper alert' addons that could do nifty things when you were alt tabbed (because certain events will still fire while the game window doesn't have focus) and I can't help but wonder if that would help somehow... but I'm merely an amateur, and wished to report this bug.
I've had issues with this myself, although not on alt-tabbing, where the window responds opposite of how it should. I kind of know what's causing it, I just need to see if I can go in and come up with a good way of fixing it. The alt-tab gives me another way of recreating though, thanks.

FIVE MONTHS LATER...

I thought it already did this, but I'll take a look.

Buttons 1-12 on my priest and lock are Button IDs 96-107. The same buttons on my warrior are 1-12, which I'm assuming correspond to Blizzard's main bar IDs.

Despite the fact that I use Dominos myself, I actually write and test Geist with the default interface only. For better or worse it's the base standard I know all people will have, so I try to work around it accordingly.

The warrior action buttons in the default interface are just downright bizarre though. Numbers 1-12, used by every other class in the game as the default set, are completely unused by warriors, with numbers 73-84 being used for (the default) battle stance. I have no idea why this was done, but it seems like a waste. If you open GeistButtons.lua in a text editor, there's a list of the default Blizzard action slot IDs in a comment at the top.

Sometime in the future (read: never), I'd like to use or write a custom button setup that would rectify the problem of shared action IDs once and for all. This creates a whole new set of problems of its own, but it's a nice goal.

By the by, if you're comfortable mucking around in lua, it's much easier/quicker to edit the Geist SavedVariables to rapidly reassign a mass of buttons. I really need to make the interface more user friendly.

The fix is to type the following, one line at a time. (I copy/pasted '/geist assign' and filled in the numbers 12 times. Took about 30sec)

Code:
/geist assign1 96
/geist assign2 97
/geist assign3 98
...etc, all the way to /geist assign12 107
/console reloadui
As long as you don't use more than 96 actionbar buttons, you should be in the clear.

Indeed. I'm happy since I didn't actually test this one on the PTR.

I noticed the addon uses random action bar buttons.. it's not just buttons from the last couple of bars, so there's no way to completely avoid it by not using certain bars.

Anyways.. I'm using OPie.. Similar addon but it doesn't use existing buttons.
Geist's default buttons are based on what buttons the default UI uses. The default IDs used for druids and (especially) warriors are a compromise because of the default form and stance bars. Which functionality was lost? The old method had the problem of not working with modifiers keys and was only implemented as a stopgap while a secure keybind method was unavailable.

Doesn't make me feel better, we lost a lot of functionality with that.
