Geist  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 110002.1
by: Cidrei [More]

Geist is incompatible with addons using LibActionButton-1.0, including ElvUI. This is not a bug so much as two incompatible button systems. Geist uses the built-in ActionButton functionality provided by WoW while buttons generated by LibActionButton-1.0 use custom code to achieve their goals. As this is not a bug in Geist, I have no intentions of figuring out a workaround at this time. My apologies for any inconvenience this causes.

Geist provides a twenty-five button action bar that displays under the mouse cursor at a keypress for quick and convenient access. Geist includes Masque support for button skinning.

How to use: Bind a key to Geist using the keybinding interface in the menu. Geist will display whenever that key is pressed with the mouse over the center button.

110002.1 - 2024-08-14

* - Back to a single ToC file.
* - ToC bump (still works in 10.1.0 with load out of date addons).
^ - Allow button assignment up to the current action slot ID limit of 180.

I believe it's a ButtonFacade issue. I've noticed this also occurs in Dominos, and I think I've seen mention of it elsewhere as well.

This is it's own bar in the sense that it is not some other mod's bar. That being said, this uses the built in action buttons provided by WoW. If you somehow already have 120 buttons displayed on your screen, then you aren't going to have any free ones available to assign to Geist.

so, i have a question about how this mod works. when i press my keybind to show the buttons.....all the buttons contain what i already have on my other bars. is this mod not a standalone type of thing? i use bongos, and i have every bar filled. i thought this was its own "bar". am i wrong?

/geist should show all the commands. People seem to be having problems getting addons to show up sometimes, and it's not just Geist. I can't figure out what's going on.

NM, it's working now... Couple reloads between then and now and I re-set the scale, think that might have been the problem...?
You know, I had someone else mention it wasn't working on a new install over at Curse. I may have to take a look, but I honestly can't see why it would break.

EDIT: Found the reason, and it was related to the scale function. Thanks for mentioning that.

Now I'm wondering if it has something to do with WoW holding some of our client settings server-side (such as keybindings and macros.)

Any suggestions of what I'm doing wrong?
I can't think of any reason it shouldn't work on one character and not another. If you have per-character keybindings set up, make sure you have the binding set for each person. The other thing I would suggest is trying to run only Geist just to see if it's conflicting with something else.

Does /geist print out the help?

There's a command in Geist that allows you to change which action id is assigned to each button. It may take some trial and error, but eventually you should find some buttons that aren't being used anywhere else.
Thanks, I ended up having to swap bars around and replacing spells to the respective bars. After figuring out the method Geist used to call it's buttons it wasn't bad at all. Great mod for people looking to replace the "Context Menu" used in Mazzleui (it just takes time to set up if you're a noob like me).

@sukkubus333: Chances are I inadvertently broke that while working on the English files. I think I can probably fix that.

@Wirick: Not as such, no. It's an oft requested feature that I really should add at some point. In the meantime, I think the following method should work. (EDIT: It does.) In the chat box type:

/script GeistHeader:Show()

You may want to open Geist near the middle of the screen somewhere first and then do that. In theory, that should open Geist for you. You can close it again by hitting your keybind. As for where to put new things, just try to drag a button or something into it. The empty boxes will show up.
