Raid icons  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 3
by: hankthetank [More]

My custom raid icons for replacement of the original ones as seen in oUF_Hank, Tukui, ElvUi and on CNN.

For addon developers

Photoshop document + ready to use WoW texture (64x64px, 4 columns, 2 rows).

Feel free to use them in your projects. Giving credits would be nice though.

For end users

You can replace the normal ingame icons with this icon pack by following these simple steps:

  • Create this subfolder:
    Code:
    ...\World of Warcraft\Interface\TARGETINGFRAME\
  • Extract UI-RaidTargetingIcons.blp to this folder
  • Restart WoW

This will overwrite the standard icons in UI elements like unit frames or raid icon context menus. To replace the actual icons above players in the 3d environment it would be necessary to pack this into a mpq file but since this is a bit frowned upon here I'm not gonna dig into that further.

Just be aware that using "custom" mpqs MAY result in Blizzard imposing sanctions taken against your account up to and including bans. I am not saying that you will be banned for using a custom mpq, however the possibility is there.

Anyway, any discussion regarding the use of custom mpq files (even theoretical) shall now cease. We are an Authorized Blizzard Fan Site and thus we must follow the rules as Blizzard has laid down. Those rules include the EULA and the ToS. This is built into our Holy Site Rules:

I know, i read the EULA, and if they want to close my account for making my raiding a lil bit prettier they are welcome to do that.

As these icons are transparent, which format are you saving them as before converting to BLP?

Probably PNG, or TGA.

Hello - these look pretty but do not always show up on the target i.e. the target has a regular "X" but when you target the target with "X" it shows your icons... this a glitch or?

Edit: ohh ok I just read your disclaimer... it only changes as you target the mob not the actual icon above their head as displayed in the pic, so it's fine the way it is?

There are two converters from which I know that they can handle semi-transparency. BLPConverter for PNGs and Technetium's BLP converter for TGAs. You need to create an alpha channel when converting from TGAs. In Photoshop for example you would do this by clicking Select->Load Selection->Layer X Transparency and then Select->Save Selection->New channel. Name it "Alpha 1" or whatever you want it to be and then save the image as a TGA file with alpha channels.

The texture contained in the release however already has the same structure like the original UI-RaidTargetingIcons.blp

How would one get Pitbull to use these icons instead of whatever the WoW ones are?

This replaces raid icons in every addon you use.

Hey, i was wondering if you would give some insight for how to make the .mpq file, like what folders do i have to put in the mpq file etc. No problem if you don't have the time but these raid icons are too cool to not have .

Curious Thoughts.

This feature of the icons only seems to work on nameplates (within range)

No icon is working here.

Icons are working on npcs which nameplate is shown.

Works on the 2 npcs but not the mob or npc that are out of range for nameplate.

Anyone got any thought how to fix this (without messing around in mql files)

I hate that I've had to use "illegal" means to make these work on everything. Such silly things just to have awesome raid icons, oh well!

You basically have to used edited wow exe files and a custom mpq file for them to work -everywhere-
