Aloft Alpha  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: Aloft-5.3.2-alpha3
by: acapela [More]

This is a "development" version of Aloft (the nameplate addon). Please refer to the main page for that addon for a comprehensive description.

This is an ALPHA release. That means it has not had a substantial amount of testing under all circumstances. By installing this version, you are basically agreeing to help test . Please report any/all bugs with this release in the comments section of this WoWInterface addon page.

This version of Aloft is functionally identical to Aloft-5.2.8-2574.

This version of Aloft is updated to work with WoW "6", aka "Warlords of Draenor", currently in beta test. All modules have been enabled, LUA errors fixed (mainly to do with obsolete spell IDs), and all the basics seem to work on the WoW 6.X PTR. There were not many changes required.

I now have Beta access, so am incorporating that into my testing.

This version of Aloft will probably not work on current live realms... there is at least one new spell that doesn't exist there yet (Storm Elemental Totem), plus several that have been removed.

5.3.2-alpha3 (Warlords of Draenor)
- fixed cast bar LUA error and configuration mode update issues
- updated Ace3 to latest/greatest (r1114)[/color]

5.3.1-alpha2 (Warlords of Draenor)
- updated/fixed "Nameplate Glow>Recently Damaged Only" functionality

5.3.0-alpha1 (Warlords of Draenor)
- for WoW 6.X PTR and WoD Beta

5.0.1-2418 (Mists of Pandaria)
- enhanced to cover monk/brewmaster tanking
- added a check to avoid divide-by-zero problems in the stacked points (combo points/etc) module
- fixed some divide-by-zero problems in threat management (the MoP threat system seems to zero out perdiodically, during fights)

5.0.0-2404 (Mists of Pandaria)
- changed GetNumRaidMembers() to GetNumGroupMembers()
- changed GetNumPartyMembers() to GetNumSubgroupMembers()
- changed (MiniMapBattlefieldFrame.status == "active") effectively to (select(IsInInstance(), 2) == "pvp")
- updated Shaman totem manifest and spell IDs
- added Monk class color (0x00ff96), class name, and associated options, to code and documentation
- added Pandaren race short form
- verified crowd control spell IDs, added Shaman "Bind Elemental" to crowd control spell IDs
- combined obsolete PARTY_MEMBERS_CHANGED/RAID_ROSTER_UPDATE events into new GROUP_ROSTER_UPDATE event
- no changes to Aloft related to GetGuildRosterInfo() (Aloft doesn't use all the arguments), or UnitIsGroupLeader() (Aloft previously updated away from deprecated functions)
- no apparent changes related to GetBattlefieldScore()/GetWhoInfo()/GetFriendInfo()

- TODO: add brewmaster tanking characteristics (for nameplate glow control)
- TODO: hunter trap snakes (specifically "Viper"; E/W Plaguelands and Uldum) and (possibly) DK bloodworms now seem to have names in common with some normal NPCs

4.4.9
- updated the cast warning module to detect animation update interval of 0 and use OnUpdate directly, instead of AceTimer-3.0 (seemns marginally faster/smoother)
- updated LibBabble-Faction-3.0 to latest/greatest (4.3-release32)
- updated Ace3 to latest/greatest (r1057)

4.4.2-2308
- merged in zhTW localization contributed by WoWInterface user aa9012456.

yeah, the version of Aloft currently available from Curse is definitely not functional. i hope to fix that at some point in the future, but i have not gotten to it yet.

however, if you deleted Aloft from your .../Interface/AddOns folder and reinstalled from WoWInterface, and if you deleted/renamed your saved variables, any problems you were seeing should go away...

i may try reproducing this (i.e. installing from curse, then re-installing from WoWInterface).

I'm also noticing a problem with the profiles.
i will do some testing with profiles, and see what happens. it is entirely possible that you will need to reload your UI after changing a profile while in-game.

I'm pretty new to Aloft.
But what I can tell you is that I got it messed up yesterday.
Also cause I couldn't find where that icon came from.
And was 'sick' of the 'trying' so I reinstalled the version from wowinterface (Aloft-4.2.3-2081).
Also was I thinking maybe the curse updater messed with Aloft.
So to be sure, I deleted all the folders in my wow interface folder and I renamed the lua and lua.bak in my saved variables.
After that I still saw the icon on the bottom left.
I have put Aloft on ignore again in the curse updater.

I'm also noticing a problem with the profiles.
I made a new profile with my own name.
When I log in on a 'new' char ofc that profile isn't working at that moment.
I get a lot of bugs at that moment. I go to profiles and set it to the one I made myself and reload. After that its okay.

hello, back again

as i previously wrote Aloft Alpha 4.2.2-2058 and all of your Aloft Beta (up to 4.1.3-2021) didn t produce the problem with missplaces spellicons for me.

4.2.3-2081 introduced the problem to me.
(also did a clean install without previous aloft aloft savedvariables, didn t help)

thx alot, acapela

edit: so, having failed to reproduce this with other people's configurations, i am now asking folks to identify (specifically by version number) whether there was some previous version of Aloft (ideally the Alpha) that does not exhibit this problem. if i can identify some specific code change, i might be able to attempt a fix, even if i can't actually produce the problem locally.

the more recent the working version, the better. i have only one older version of the Alpha up, so perhaps the folks experiencing this problem can try installing that (hopefully that will show different behavior). after trying that, if folks who have experienced this problem want access to even older versions of the Alpha to try, i can provide them. send me a PM with your email address and i will send you a ZIP.

as well, if this problem only occurs in certain places (i.e. arenas), let me know.

still have not been able to reproduce this problem. folks have sent me their Aloft configurations, and even then, stuff works correctly for me.

could there be a conflict with another addon? if you have Aloft, and only Aloft, enabled and this still happens, it is probably not that. but i can't figure out why it impacts only certain users.

yeah, this is already fixed in development, and should be available in the next version.

thanks for the report.

another suggestion: disable all addons, enable Blizzard default nameplates (i.e. make nameplates show via the default "Names>Unit Nameplates" interface options), and see if it still happens. trying to isolate whether this is an "addon problem", or something intrinsic to WoW 4.0.6. you could also try temporarily disabling dx11, with and without Aloft, to see if that affects the problem.

i enabled dx11 (with "-d3d11" on the command line). i notice some very slight stuttering in complex environments, but this does not seem to affect reported FPS (the little tiny freezes last for the barest fraction of a second, probably the equivalent of a frame or two at the most), and it happens regardless of whether nameplates are showing, and regardless of whether Aloft is enabled. don't know that this can rule out the involvement of dx11...

i will leave dx11 enabled, generically, for a while.

my guess is that this is actually not new (have had others complain before, ever since Aloft had to replace the Blizzard default target cast bar with its own graphics as a workaround to some low-level Blizzard glitches).

Aloft hooks into the Blizzard default target cast bar... every time Blizzard reports a change in that target cast bar, Aloft gets notified and updates its cast bar. i am guessing Blizzard animates their cast bar at a faster rate than it delivers notifications.

a possible workaround here would be to sidestep this notification mechanism, and actually poll for changes to the Blizzard default target cast bar. the speed at which this polling occurs could be exposed as a user option (so that the user could make it fast; the practical upper limit would be your framerate). another possible workaroud would be to see if those low-level Blizzard glitches still exist, and if they do not, to go back to just reskinning the Blizzard target cast bar. i will play with all of this and see what i can figure out.

tested on multiple caster mobs now, for both spells that can and can not be interrupted, even relogged to see if it was a glitch, but its happening every time

tried reproducing this, and couldn't. the target cast bar spell icon remains anchored where i want it.

(as well, the separate cast warning addon is obsolete with this version of Aloft; it is now an integrated module; the version of the separate cast warning addon released with this version of Aloft is basically just a TOC file that says "uninstall me"; i tested with the cast warning module disabled.)

same thing here: you may need to send me your saved variables file. if you PM me, i will respond with an email address. or you can stick it on a file server somewhere and PM a link.

tried to reproduce this by enabling friendly nameplates and running around town. this results in lots of nameplates continuously appearing/disappearing. did not see any problems. FPS was stable throughout.

you can try reproducing this with Aloft (and only Aloft) enabled, and see if it still happens.

if it does, you may need to send me your saved variables file. if you PM me, i will respond with an email address. or you can stick it on a file server somewhere and PM a link.
