Aloft Alpha  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: Aloft-5.3.2-alpha3
by: acapela [More]

This is a "development" version of Aloft (the nameplate addon). Please refer to the main page for that addon for a comprehensive description.

This is an ALPHA release. That means it has not had a substantial amount of testing under all circumstances. By installing this version, you are basically agreeing to help test . Please report any/all bugs with this release in the comments section of this WoWInterface addon page.

This version of Aloft is functionally identical to Aloft-5.2.8-2574.

This version of Aloft is updated to work with WoW "6", aka "Warlords of Draenor", currently in beta test. All modules have been enabled, LUA errors fixed (mainly to do with obsolete spell IDs), and all the basics seem to work on the WoW 6.X PTR. There were not many changes required.

I now have Beta access, so am incorporating that into my testing.

This version of Aloft will probably not work on current live realms... there is at least one new spell that doesn't exist there yet (Storm Elemental Totem), plus several that have been removed.

5.3.2-alpha3 (Warlords of Draenor)
- fixed cast bar LUA error and configuration mode update issues
- updated Ace3 to latest/greatest (r1114)[/color]

5.3.1-alpha2 (Warlords of Draenor)
- updated/fixed "Nameplate Glow>Recently Damaged Only" functionality

5.3.0-alpha1 (Warlords of Draenor)
- for WoW 6.X PTR and WoD Beta

5.0.1-2418 (Mists of Pandaria)
- enhanced to cover monk/brewmaster tanking
- added a check to avoid divide-by-zero problems in the stacked points (combo points/etc) module
- fixed some divide-by-zero problems in threat management (the MoP threat system seems to zero out perdiodically, during fights)

5.0.0-2404 (Mists of Pandaria)
- changed GetNumRaidMembers() to GetNumGroupMembers()
- changed GetNumPartyMembers() to GetNumSubgroupMembers()
- changed (MiniMapBattlefieldFrame.status == "active") effectively to (select(IsInInstance(), 2) == "pvp")
- updated Shaman totem manifest and spell IDs
- added Monk class color (0x00ff96), class name, and associated options, to code and documentation
- added Pandaren race short form
- verified crowd control spell IDs, added Shaman "Bind Elemental" to crowd control spell IDs
- combined obsolete PARTY_MEMBERS_CHANGED/RAID_ROSTER_UPDATE events into new GROUP_ROSTER_UPDATE event
- no changes to Aloft related to GetGuildRosterInfo() (Aloft doesn't use all the arguments), or UnitIsGroupLeader() (Aloft previously updated away from deprecated functions)
- no apparent changes related to GetBattlefieldScore()/GetWhoInfo()/GetFriendInfo()

- TODO: add brewmaster tanking characteristics (for nameplate glow control)
- TODO: hunter trap snakes (specifically "Viper"; E/W Plaguelands and Uldum) and (possibly) DK bloodworms now seem to have names in common with some normal NPCs

4.4.9
- updated the cast warning module to detect animation update interval of 0 and use OnUpdate directly, instead of AceTimer-3.0 (seemns marginally faster/smoother)
- updated LibBabble-Faction-3.0 to latest/greatest (4.3-release32)
- updated Ace3 to latest/greatest (r1057)

4.4.2-2308
- merged in zhTW localization contributed by WoWInterface user aa9012456.

yeah, it would be best to delete the Ace2 version before installing the Ace3 version. your saved variables should be compatible (i was switching back and forth from Ace2 and Ace3 versions in testing without any problems), but if you experience any strangeness, be ready to delete your saved variables as well.

Next time this crashes, what info should I gather to report in a new post?
i don't know that there is anything that can be done here. i may switch back to the Ace2 version for a while, to see if the crashes happen that way. my best guess is that there is something "broken" down inside of the Blizzard API (something to do with nameplates, most likely), and that Aloft is particularly good at tripping over it.

Also, for me, it crashes almost immediately on Yogg-Saron, Algalon, and Valithria Dreamwalker, but I also get random crashes in BGs and a multitude of other bosses in numerous raids. I have the latest alpha, as well. Anyone else still having this problem?

Edit: Apparently I completely missed the post about turning off Overlapping Nameplates. I will try that and see if it fixes it.

Edit2: Nope. Crashed 10 seconds after going into the first vision on Yogg.
yeah. for a while there i had some hopes that it was nameplate overlap that was causing this. i turned overlap off, and had no crashes for days. but then i had a crash.

subjectively, however, it does seem to reduce the likelihood/frequency. so, go ahead and do this.

if you are using the AloftAutoShow module, disable nameplate overlap there, under all circumstances. if you are not, disable the Blizzard option (under "Names" on their standard interface menu).

either way, keep reporting this.

also NOTE: the Ace3 version of Aloft is now the "main" version of Aloft, and i am releasing it on the Aloft main page.

AceTimer-3.0: Warning: The addon/module 'Aloft_CrowdControlSpellNameText' has 357 live timers. Surely that's not intended?
I've gotten no bugs in my bugsack, however, and PerformanceFu doesn't show Aloft as one of my largest memory-hoggers at the moment - so no actual detrimental effects so far, although this is after about 40 minutes of play involving combat.

This is on a level 10 rogue, where my only crowd control is Sap. I'd used it about 3 times in this play session.
Can provide .wtf files if needed. Thanks for a great addon!

I haven't had any crash problems, but I just noticed that I can't seem to interact with the frames with my mouse. I do absolutely have the box checked in the frame options for mouse interact. I am not getting the highlight nor is it clickable.

I get this message every other day, wondering if its something i am doing wrong? I am using a unmodified preset. Love your addon by the way

Re: 132 Crashes

I'm still getting 132 crashes as well. But it only happens infrequently on the average of once per session. I only have enemy name plates showing and do not have the overlapping option enabled.

I had been using the ace2 version and simply installed ace3 over it. Should I delete the entire addon folder and install again? The .lua file should hold my settings in the WTF folder.

Next time this crashes, what info should I gather to report in a new post?

edit: Just noticed you put up a new Aloft beta. I deleted old Aloft folders in the addons section. Intalled fresh -- will test now.

yes, to both questions.

once this Ace3 version becomes "stable", i want to release versions with new features as a "beta" (perhaps on a retooled form of this page), and more mature versions without the "beta", and "stable" releases (i.e. that we have had a chance to burn in for several hours of playtime, as well as in arenas, raids, etc) on the "main" Aloft page. or perhaps it is time for a new Aloft "main" page (i.e. without the "beta"), and what is currently the main page will become a true "beta" page (i don't know yet).

anyway, throughout Aloft's history, i have always known it would need to migrate to Ace3, and have been holding off on removing the "beta" designation until that was complete and everything could solidify. and frankly, back in those old WoW 3.0 (aka Burning Crusade) days, i knew squat about LUA, squat about addons, and etc (and treating Aloft like a perpetual "beta" made some sense).

as it stands, the Ace3 part of that is well in hand (as of 2010/04/15, "tax day" in the USA, it is probably just a day or two away from a full Ace3 release on the Aloft main page; i just need to do a bit more testing). i also have more confidence in my ability isolate and fix bugs more quickly/smoothy. hopefully you folks will find it all stable, and i will feel i can take the "Beta" off.

work is already in progress to release it on "that other site", though i have no ETA. i can state that a big impediment to that was also the lack of a "final" Ace3 version, so i am hoping this can also now proceed a bit more rapidly.

The white square randomly appears sometimes. I'm pretty sure it is Aloft, cause it disappeared when I moved a bit back and the health bar disappeared. It reappeared when I moved closer again.
yeah, i believe this is fixed .

i reproduced it in various ways (strobing nameplates rapidly with keybindings, etc), and expunged it under all the circumstances in which i was able to reproduce it.

if anyone sees this in the most recent released version (Aloft-3.0.9-1753, and tbe version of AloftCastWarning distributed with it, AloftCastWarning-0.9.5-1752... the exact version of this is available via a mouseover the Aloft options dialog), or after, please let me know.

Quick Status

update: have not seen any problems with the recent WoW patch (3.3.3-11723, released in North America on 2010/04/13).

forgot about the patch day today. i should have tried Aloft out on the PTR over the weekend, but i didn't.

i will get in as soon as the live realms are back up here in North America, and try to make sure nothing has changed.

i am also making progress on prepping the Ace3 version of Aloft/AloftCastWarning for release on their main pages. won't be too much longer (hopefully around the end of this week).

[b]update: i did some testing, and did get this to reproduce in one specific sort of situation: when dueling a player of your own faction.

the Blizzard API UnitIsFriend() reports "true" for PCs of the same faction, under all circumstances. AloftCastWarning-3.0.8-1753 ended up "fixed" thatso it detected things correctly using UnitIsFriend(), but that is not what needs to happen. so, i am testing a version of AloftCastWarning that redefines "friendly" as "not UnitCanAttack()", which seems to work much better.

still testing (i need to find a neutral NPC that casts spells, and attack it).

I found this because when I played in arena castwarning sometime worked but sometimes didnt.
So I just test on friendly unit because it's hard to test in arena.
And I think it's focus problem but it seems like when my opponent is my own faction in arena.
Thanks for all your working.

these are actually not bugs, they are "features". the explanations as to why are complex, and ended up somewhat long. so, i am sending you a PM.
