WeightsWatcher gives you an easy to use way to compare gear based on the actual stats, not just the item level.
Currently, all base stats, gems in non-crafted sockets, and enchants should be handled properly. Also, gems are suggested based on the weights you have enabled. Note that crafted sockets and other "stacking" enchants are not currently handled, because they are not detectable through the WoW API.
All weights can be changed as you see fit, and you can create and enable as many or as few as you would like.
The default stat weights are provided by AskMrRobot.com, with their consent. Everything else the mod does is of our own creation, and does not use the AskMrRobot.com optimization formulas.
Endgame players will probably want to create hit- and/or expertise- capped weights, which is easily done by copying an existing weight and setting the appropriate values to 0.

WW rocks my socks.
This mod is deliciously awesome. I've been using stat score for many months, but I like this mod a bit better. The ability to show more than just your main and off spec is really nice. I love being able to change the weights, and the built-in wowhead weights are great! You did an awesome job with this, I am way impressed. Thanks for offering it up to all of us :]
I think the only thing on my wishlist would be some way of colorizing the weights as they appear in the tooltip. This is totally personal preference, but I do miss the green and red numbers in stat score. It would be pretty cool if something is a downgrade, the numbers could be red, and if the item weight is higher than what you're wearing now, it could be in green. Thanks again! |

Re: WW rocks my socks.
That's a good idea. I'm not sure exactly how I'd want that to show, there's a few viable options (and we could always make it configurable):
There's also the issue of which numbers to compare on socketed items. You could compare the ideal numbers to either:
As I posted above (below? previously, I guess), we have finals this coming week, so I'll look into it more once those are over. |

Colors!
I second the vote for color coding +/- scores.
I agree the gems could be an issue. I don't know if including the gems is a good idea. Ideally, the gems would be the same or better since you're trying to max dps and/or tank capability. For this reason it may be best to remove the gems entirely? But the socket gear is going to have more potential then non-socket gear... it is a dilemma. A third solution may be to scan the gear for sockets or gems in use only when comparing the same color gem (i.e. hover over a red gem would scan for comparisons between red, purple, and orange; purple would scan for red, blue, and purple; etc.) |

Re: Colors!
WeightsWatcher will give a score for plain gems also, but there's no comparison to other gems there (and I'm not sure adding it would be very useful). |

addon messing with default WoW combat text?
I was playing around with this addon earlier in the evening. It seems to be an upgrade from StatScore. However, when I use this addon with WoW's default scrolling combat text, it prevents the default SCT from being shown ingame. Using Addon Control Panel (ACP), I had WeightsWatcher enabled and used a HoT spell on myself. The SCT was not showing the effects of the HoT. I then disabled this addon through ACP and reloaded the UI. I then used the same spell on myself. I was able to see the SCT from the HoT on myself. I will redo the test with only WW and ACP enabled as I have a boatload of addons. Thank you for your time.
[EDIT] I retried it with simply ACP and WW. When WW was enabled, the SCT failed to function. When I disabled it, SCT worked again.

Re: addon messing with default WoW combat text?
Edit: I saw SCT not working, but when I went back to old versions to try and find where the problem started, it went away seemingly permanently. Even on the release version, it's working for me now. I'm not really sure what to say; I'll keep an eye out for it, but I don't know why it would be happening. Also, I really don't know why it would stop all of a sudden.

Re: Re: WW rocks my socks.
If it was my own personal choice, here's how I'd do it: keep everything the same as it is now, just add numbers to the right side of the weight numbers, in green or red, of how much you would gain or lose if you switched to that piece. I think it would be an okay option without a toggle key myself, but if you wanted to include a toggle key, you could make the weight numbers themselves light up in red or green WITHOUT the toggle key pressed, and then with the toggle key pressed, you'd see the gain/lose numbers.
You're right about the gems, though, that's a hard one to handle. I am not sure how I would handle that... if it was me, I would want to see (without a toggle key) how much of an up or downgrade an item (as it is, gemmed or ungemmed) would be, compared with the current item I have equipped, NOT ideal, but as I have it gemmed currently. It would be nice to have a toggle key that already shows extended information show ideal vs. ideal. Simply: No toggle - shows current values of item compared with current values of equipped item. Toggle key - shows ideal values of item compared with ideal values of equipped item. And no worries about finals - I still have 2 left to take myself, I know how it goes =/ Good luck, and take it easy! Edit: My fiance mentioned the possibility of adding GetAuctionValue hooks (for those who have Auctioneer, Auctionator, AuctionLite) that can report the auction value of recommended gems! I think it's a cool idea. Don't know how interested people would be, or how ridiculous it would be to implement, but that would be really handy information to have :] Another mod that does something similar is Lil' Sparky's Workshop, which modifies the trade skill window to show auction values for not only each thing you can make, but how much the mats cost in total as well. It's really handy information.

Gems
After reading and picturing how I would want my interface to look, a gem modifier key seems to be the best solution.
I currently use StatScore, which builds on the WoW default of requiring [shift] to be held to compare items. Perhaps the best solution for gems is that the value could change when [shift]+[alt] is held. |

Would it be possible to add the whole-character storing stuff for other too?
Or to switch weights in Comparison? So like when I hover over a Mage it would show me the total weights score of his equip on the 3 Trees he has (Arcane/Frost/Fire) And when I have a mage and I hover a bow I could somehow switch to Hunter weights to see if my Hunter twink could use this bow etc. |

We have considered allowing a list of weights (per-character) that is shown on a modifier key being pressed. For example, you'd have your "primary" weights that always showed, your "secondary" weights that showed on Shift (or whatever key you picked), and then inactive weights that didn't show at all. Would that work? |

On top of that, for everything before Icecrown Raid, you really shouldn't be gemming for avoidance in the first place. You get enough of it on your gear, and all the raid teirs pre-Icecrown favor EH stacking. You will do best to simply gem stamina (Except for a single agi/stam gem to match your meta gem-- agi because it grants a little armor and dodge). The "just gem stam" advice may change in ICC when we get to see those fights some more, but I rather doubt any shift between EH/Avoidance will happen until Cataclysm. |

How are stats with a cap (hit, spell hit, expertise, defense) handled?
I'm thinking of a couple situations where they'd need special treatment:
(I only mention defense because although it remains a useful stat after 540, it should be weighter higher before that magic number than after.) |
