Professional  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.0k
by: theshadow [More]

A addon guide to leveling all your professions from 1-450. (Beta Test at this time)

(NEW) Guide Frame appears to work now with my fixes. The Close button is also now showing.
* (UPDATE: As of version 1.0k, in order to see the guide for your profession please open the profession first then open professional and click the proper button to show the guide for your current skill level!)
Also I would like anyone who is an artist to submit images for a logo for professional and a minimap button design! Credit will be given to those who submit the works.

You can open/close with /pro or /professional or click the NEW minimap Button!

Additions for the future: a checklist of all items needed to craft from 1-450. Links inside guides like in chat window.

Bugs: Hyperlinks appear not to work, but should be accurate. Guide format issues (just me taking the LONG time to format a cleaner text)

Please report all bugs to my ticket system here: http://wow.curseforge.com/projects/p...create-ticket/
This way I can manage any error reports better.
In fact if you can answer step 1 in the defect ticket, it can solve 90% of all problems.

(NEW)f.a.q. located here: http://www.wowinterface.com/portal.php?id=562&a=faq

Any devs who know how to do future enhancements please contact me.

v.1.0i beta test Updated to a new engine for guides to match current skill in profession. Alchemy is the only guide at this time in the new format. Added a minimap icon below clock that is ? and will open Professional with out /pro or /professional (but these commands still work). Updated guide info screen to no longer use background strata.

v.1.0h beta test A "patch file" was given to me to fix the scrollframe text to stay in the frame by llothos on wowinterface. I fixed some minor typos, and fixed some functions. A First aid button and lib have been added.

v.1.0g beta test updated frame.lua for an error of " ..\AddOns\Professional\Frame.lua line 126: '<eof>' expected near 'end' ". I don't know if I fixed it or not. If you still get the error, contact me as I'm not getting the error. This is even more true if your locale is not English!

v.1.0f beta test updated frame.lua for locale support. In Lib folder all the lua files have been updated for locale support. Translations of buttons and guides required. So for now anything but English won't show. If you wish you may downgrade to v.1.0e during the process of translation.

v.1.0e beta test updated frame.lua in preparation for locale support. Locale support is not active at this time, until I can't work out any bugs. Updated alchemy, blacksmithing and enchanting guides for hyperlinks. Blacksmithing and enchanting items needed are prepped for checklist frame. Checklist is still in process of being developed. Any translations of the guides MUST contain the hyperlinks and not alter the original system in order to be official to Professional. I will include a readme for the guides for translations in the near future. Updated Lib/About.lua

v.1.0d beta test changed frame.xml to allow a more dynamic textstring scroll within a framescroll. Tested all guides for length not getting cutoff and appears to work.

v.1.0c beta test with improved Alchemy guide including partial hyperlinks (like in the chat channels). Addition of Cooking as per request. I don't have a guide written for it yet, so if anyone wishes to contribute a guide to speed up the process, please do. ScrollingFrame text does not scroll. (please help on this if you know the solution. preferably with out fuaxscrollframe. Mine is based from TradeTrax help window, which does not use such a method that I'm aware of.)

v.1.0b beta test with full data. known bug is scrolling does not seem to work.

v.1.0a alpha test to see if most functions work

Update Profesional 1.0i

I just want my loyal users to know I am still working on this in what spare time I can find. I have been re-formatting the guides, making them clearer, easier to read and trying to make guides for the professions I don't have guides for. Also if there are any addon developers out there who can provide any assistance please contact me.

update

I would like to make a shout out to R M Katz on Curse! Thank you so much for your kind donation! Also Since my financial troubles are now being less, I'm investing in a new TB HD and getting win7 x64 ultimate OEM. I will try to then get WoW back up and find all my dev tools again.

Thanks also goes out to werewolf1811 on Curse for helping to provide additional guide info.

Exclamation update on my status

Here is an update for everyone. My main pc is currently down and I'm trying to recover my hard drives. And due to financial reasons I'm unable to test my addon on WoW at this point and time. This DOES NOT mean I'm begging for donations, as this is intended to be for everyone, but donations are nice ^.^ Anyways my development tools and code snippits were all on my main pc, and I don't have the means to run everything at this time, (WoW, addon dev software). I must apologize for the lack of updates, but when I'm back up and running I will be sure to get my "mini-map" button working. And for anyone who know how to do my future updates, please contact me, I'm still new to addon development and at this point in time I can't figure out how to do these planned updates.

Thank you all you have been of help and testing out my addon,
The Shadow

No, the links are yet to work. I also have been busy. version 1.0i has been an attempt to get a mini-map button to work, for now it is a button with alliance currency as the icon by the location bar on top of the mini-map. I didn't get much done in terms of guides.

And one problem. On the Tailoring frame, all the numbers on the far left of the frame "overlap" & distort, making them difficult to see.

For example, if there is a sentence that begins like: 105x [Bolt of Linen Cloth], its nearly impossible to see if the first number is a 1 or a 2. None of the other guides in the mod I've looked at have this problem.
I have noticed that when I first started the addon. So the guides had to be reformatted to properly show. The only ones I have finished are alchemy, blacksmithing and enchanting. I'm also trying to double check the guides for accuracy and develop links for all the items listed. Most of my guide come from web and user contributed info.

No rush since you probably have a ton of work left already formatting the guides etc, but it'd be great for a future version.
That is a lot like how my checklist will work. Perhaps in the future I will have an auto profession level detection and only show the part for that range in level.

OK, first off I don't want to sound rude. Have you read my faq or submitted a support ticket that I put everywhere? If yes, please ignore stupid me. The faq is in my portal here: http://www.wowinterface.com/portal.php?id=562&a=faq
I will be sure to update this in all descriptions.

So on to the support, if you are using v.1.0h, then I'm a little puzzled. If your client is not english, then that would make sense as there are no translations at this time. You really can't bypass the locale check very easily, but you could manually alter my script, or just copy/paste from ex. in lib/Alchemy.lua copy Alchemy_text and paste in your locale like Alchemy_text_frFR. This is the best that I can think of to your problem. I double checked my .zip file and source code to be sure I didn't goof up my system, and ran it in WoW several times, (both source and from zip) with no errors.

I hope this helped.

Take your time

Good to hear that you admit you are getting your feet wet in lua and XML. Do what you need to keep things on a even keel and learn as you go. To many times authors dive in to creat something and abandon a great idea down the road due to frustrations and demand from fans. The ingame guide approach is something rarely seen and much appreciated when they work.

As for the scrolling text problem, if you notice the text goes as far as the edge of the bottom and top of scroll bar, if you could change the size of the scroll bar would that help with the text? I've only just recently got interested in addon creation and have started some tutorials, so no i have know idea if that could be done or not. Which ones helped you get into it? I found something called addon studio for world of warcraft, seems to be pretty good.

I really like this addon and well i guess it's the general concept of the addon and i see lots of potential in it. Keep up the good work!
Thank you. I had no REAL tutorial to go off of. WoWwiki baffles me at times as I'm not a very good programmer in general. I actually made Professional with addon studio v2. I manually sized my childscroll to be 500 x 300 and the mainframe to be 500 x 400. To be honest I don't know how to fix that problem. My XML is not the best and lua is new to me. On another forum they mentioned I need to change my scrol frame to a messagescroll frame to make the links work, but that doesn't seem to work either. I think I will be stuck beta testing for a while until I can get everything to work without issues.

Re: Skill level AND Character Level

Checking out this add on and so far helpful. A suggestion. Your skill level is also dependent on your character level. It would be hepful if you note the required character level along with the skill level. You will find a good explanation at WowWikki which I post here,

"All professions require character level 5 to get apprentice (entry level) training. Some of the professions, especially gathering and secondary professions, do not have character level requirements for some proficiency levels, but others do. All the primary crafting proficiencies have skill level requirements. All the secondary professions have a quest which is given only at or above the skill level requirement for Artisan proficiency. (A quick rule of thumb to calculate the max skill points is: floor(level/10)*75 + 75, which is accurate for all titles except Master, which normally would be level 45 instead of level 50.) "
Thanks, I will try to keep that in mind. Not sure how I can implement that system at this time.
