Sound commands for every sound updated for MoP  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 5.4.2 (beta 1)
by: Bluspacecow, Eisa

Technically this isn't an addon. It's a zip that contains a text file that lists the /script commands to play almost any sound in game.

If it was in the MPQ files then there should be a /script command to play them. From 25 man raid bosses to the sound a Gnome Male makes when dying.

I've also included instructions on how to do this yourself if I ever drop off the face of the earth

Instructions for use

1) Unzip the zip file

2) Open up the large over 3 MB file whose file name begins with "WoWSoundsUpdatedTo" using Word, Wordpad, Notepad or any decent text editor. It's just a text file so anything that can read a text file should do.

3) Use Control-F ie the Find function to find what you need.

3) Copy that /script command with Control-C (copy)

4) Switch to the game

5) Press Enter to bring up a chat box

6) Control - V to Paste it in.

7) Press return. The sound should play

These script commands can also be used in Macros

Now before posting in the comments about looking for a sound please make the effort to find it first.

I'm not trying to be mean or rude it's just that I might not always have the time to find it for you. I might not even be able to login to the game to test that I've found the right sound for you as I could be answering posts at work. Try searching on the NPC name or alternatives of the NPC name. Don't be afraid to try ones you think it is. Once you've exhausted all reasonable avenues to find it yourself then post and I'm sure someone will be happy to help

I've spot checked a few but haven't tested every single /script command I've listed here. Let me know if some aren't working for you.

Bluspacecow's Favourites :
/script PlaySoundFile("Sound\\Creature\\NPCGhoul\\NPCGhoulVendor04.ogg")
/script PlaySoundFile("Sound\\Creature\\NPCGeist\\NPCGeistVendor04.ogg")

Eisa's Favourites :
/script PlaySoundFile("Sound\\Creature\\Anubrekhan\\Anu_Naxx_Taunt01.ogg")
/script PlaySoundFile("Sound\\Creature\\Loathstare\\Loa_Naxx_Aggro02.ogg")
/script PlaySoundFile("Sound\\Creature\\Moroes\\MoroesSlay03.ogg")
/script PlaySoundFile("Sound\\Creature\\Mortar Team\\MortarTeamReady1.ogg")
/script PlaySoundFile("Sound\\Creature\\Wolf Rider\\WolfRiderPissed3.ogg")
(and many many more)

Elsa - For continued support in getting the list correct and accurate.

DISCLAIMER :

* While every effort has been made to keep this list as accurate and free of duplicates I make no guarantees that I haven't missed anything.
* Due to an existing bug/oddity in how the PlaySoundFile call works I make no guarantees that every one of what is listed will play. List is generated from what is listed in the data files and there is no easy way of checking what sounds will or won't play.
* Sound file paths and sound names are listed as they are spelt in the data files. If there are mispellings it's not my fault (and do not try to correct them)

This author is badly in need of sleep *snoozes on nearest available flat surface* zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
*starts drooling in his sleep* O_O

v4.0.3 *Eisa's BETA* Completely re-extract from World of Warcraft 4.0.3.13329 bringing the total up to 33,481. Included WoWSoundsSince335.txt which contains only the new sounds.

v4.0.6 *Eisa's BETA* Built entirely from (Listfile) data contained in World of Warcraft 4.0.6.13596 live MPQs, adding 7 new sound paths bringing the total upto 33,486. Included WoWSoundsSince403.txt. Removed 1 duplicate and 1 blank paths.

v4.1.0 *Eisa's BETA* Built entirely from fresh "(Listfile)" extracts contained in World of Warcraft 4.1.0.13914 live MPQs. Adds 876 new sound paths (listed in WoWSoundsNewTo410.txt). Total number of sounds is now 34,362 (listed in WoWSoundsUpdatedTo410.txt). This data is used in AudioX2-4.1.0 too.

v4.2.0 *Eisa's BETA* Built entirely from fresh "(Listfile)" extracts contained in World of Warcraft 4.2.0.14333 live MPQs. Adds 1,264 new sound paths (listed in WoWSoundsNewTo420.txt). Total number of sounds is now 35,626 (listed in WoWSoundsUpdatedTo420.txt).

v4.3.0 *Eisa's BETA* Built entirely from fresh "(Listfile)" extracts contained
in World of Warcraft 4.3.0.15050 live MPQs. Adds 1,472 new sound paths (listed
in WoWSoundsNewTo430.txt). Total number of sounds is now 37,098 (listed in
WoWSoundsUpdatedTo430.txt).

v5.0.5 (beta 1) Blu's attempt at updating it again. Be kind :P

Built by extracting all sounds as well as extracting all the "(Listfile)" extracts contained in World of Warcraft 5.0.5.16135 live MPQs. Adds a phenomenal amount of new sounds - 11,804 !! Total number of sounds is now 48,902 (listed in WoWSoundsUpdatedTo505.txt) . enUS locale only , other locales to be done ASAP

v5.0.5 (beta 2) Missed out on saving the linefeeds in the correct format. Should be properly formatted for both Mac and Windows now

v5.1 (beta 1) Updated for patch 5.1 Another large update - Adds 1143 new sounds bringing Total sounds up to 50,045

v5.1 (beta 2) Bug fix patch for the above. Forgot to change everything to lower case before using the Remove Duplicates command to remove cases where Blizzard's included both the upper case and lower case form of a sound. Removing 88 sounds bring Total sounds back down to 49,957

v5.2 (beta 1) Update for patch 5.2. Very large update - Adds 2492 new sounds after duplicates removed. New sounds Total now up to 52,449

v5.2 (beta 2) Due to favouring a list file approach versus a full extract with list files being used for error checking the slashes were going the wrong way. None of the macros were actually working. Forgot to test in game (whoops)

v5.3 (beta 1) Update for patch 5.3
- Adds 670 new sounds bringing the total number of sounds up to 53,119
- Read me file & documents restructured and reorganised

v5.4 (beta 1) Update for patch 5.4 (17399)
- Adds 1813 new sounds bringing the total number of sounds up to 5,4932
- Added experimental "Addedin5.4" and "Updatedin5.4" files . These are what I
believe has been added/changed and may not reflect reality.

v5.4.2 (beta 1) Update for patch 5.4.2 (17658)
- Adds 92 new sounds bringing the total number of sounds up to 55,024
- Includes the 9 new sounds from 5.4.1 , the Murloc Crusader sounds
(the only new sounds from 5.4.1)
- 5.4.2 build 17658 was a client only update. Last MPQ file with
new sounds = 17645 (base & enUS)
- misc admin related updates
Optional Files (0)

An easier way would be to replace "#lichking/" with "#" where # is end-of-line character(s) depending on the OS used to create the document. That is, CR+LF for windows, CR for apple, LF for un*x (where CR=U+000A, LF=U+000D). That way you'll only replace instances of lichking/ at the start of a line. I'm not sure if TextWrangler lets you do this, but there are definitely editors out there that do.

Note: You may need to insert a blank line at the start and end of the list before replacing this way to ensure first and last lines are replaced correctly.

Ack ! I can see I'm having to relearn how to do this each time I do it

I only do it on major content patchs when we definitely get some new sounds.

I do all my filtering by hand ie TextWrangler with it's find all , process duplicates, process lines containing ,sort lines and prefix/suffix lines commands

The problem I did here was search and replace "lichking/" with nothing which of course matched and altered "Sound/Creature/Lichking/" to "Sound/Creature"

Opps.

Have now gone back through and instead of replacing all "lichking/" occurences have used "lichking/sound" instead.

Here's hoping this is the last update I gotta do

Cool. Asking one of the sites staff to remove my temporary fix (there's no way for mod authors to do it themselves currently)

Alrighty everyone.

Now all updated again for 3.2. Have also randomly tested some ones that didn't look like they would play but play they did.

A side note : to stop a long song or sound playing you need to go to

ESC -> Sound & Voice -> Sound -> Turn off "Use Hardware"

Reverse it to play sounds again. Seems that turns the sound system off then on

Oooooo highlights I've noticed :

/script PlaySoundFile("Sound\\Music\\ZoneMusic\\BrewFest\\BF_Goblins1.mp3")
/script PlaySoundFile("Sound\\Music\\ZoneMusic\\BrewFest\\BF_Goblins2.mp3")
/script PlaySoundFile("Sound\\Music\\ZoneMusic\\BrewFest\\BF_Goblins3.mp3")

Drunk goblins FTW

PS Seems they've been in there since the first version of my file...So they've been in there since wrath hit ???

Alrighty then guys. All updated for 3.2 (pending atm)

I'm going to do complete re extractions of all the MPQ files in the Data folder from now on. Also when I post-process my results I filter for all files with either a ".wav" or ".mp3" extension and have spot checked for sound file extensions I've missed.

While I have every confidence I've gotten all the sound files present let me know if any are missing *

*The sound might be under a different name so check for that first please.

Great list. Excellent even! Without it AudioX would be far less comprehensive. Keep up the good work.

Blizzard prevents PlaySoundFile audio from being broadcast to near by players, specifically to stop them becoming annoying in towns and raids (imagine what it'd be like with every spamming samples).

However, several mods allow samples to be played between players who use the same mod. The aforementioned AudioX does this by allowing players to search, play and share game samples via chat links (to other AudioX users).

Just a quick note guys.

This WILL be updated for 3.2 as soon as it comes out.

I can't get the PTR mpqs to extract right for some reason. So I'll wait till then to update.

No they can't .

I made this for personal reference for addon authors and people who like to include sounds in their macros.
