NPCScan helps you find NPCs by scanning nameplates, minimap vignettes, and mouseover targets, with an optional dynamic targeting keybinding. Once an NPC is found by one of these methods, an on screen alert is displayed and an audio alert is played.
Nameplates
Alerts will be triggered whenever a nameplate is created, if that nameplate belongs to one of the tracked NPCs. To use this feature with any reliability, the Interface->Names->Always Show Nameplates option must be turned on from the WoW Game Menu.
Dynamic Target Keybinding
NPCScan includes a key binding that will trigger a dynamically-generated targeting macro. Each time it is pressed, the key binding will trigger a /targetexact <mob name=""> for every tracked NPC in the current zone you are in, in addition to any custom NPC additions. This only attempts a search each time it is triggered; it is not a continuous search.
To access this feature, just set a keybind under the Key Bindings->AddOns->NPCScan->Targeting Macro section.
“Found” Alert
When an NPC is found, NPCScan alerts you by playing a loud and distinctive sound, making your screen pulse red, and displaying a Targeting Button for every NPC that is found.
Targeting Buttons
When clicked, the targeting button tries to target the NPC it depicts. You can also bind a key to trigger the newest button, in cases where multiple buttons are spawned.
Note: These buttons cannot be shown during combat. In the unlikely case that you do find a rare while fighting, the button or buttons will appear after you leave combat.
Options
NPCScan's main options window can be accessed from the Interface Options menu. To access the NPC list and other settings, type “/npcscan”.
New sounds can be added to the alert sound dropdown menu by installing SharedMedia.

Share custom NPC's?
Hi,
If I input a custom mob on one char, I have to input the same custum mob again. Is there a way that all my char's get the same custom's? - Dimzen |

Hi Saiket
I was just about to post about an issue I'm having, when I noticed you replying to nosoup4crr. I also seem to be having this issue, where clearing out the cache doesnt actually clear it out, but it seems to vary between toons, if that makes any sense ? I can log one toon, and look at say Storm Peaks, and it will show all 4 rare spawns. Log another toon, and I get maybe 2 spawns showing. Go back to the first, and it shows 4 again ... I've removed the creaturecache (wow was closed) removed your addons (this and NCPscan_overlay) removed all saved variables and re-installed fresh, and still no joy. Any ideas ?? |

For some reason, my cache is no longer clearing. I'm not sure what the problem is. I've done it dozens of times. But, now, when I restart WoW after deleting my cache, all the mobs stay cached.

Awesome add-on. Literally got an achievement within 5 mins of installing and flying around. And even then I couldn't find it for like a minute until I realized there was a 3D portrait of it, and it was one of those burrowing worms that I could barely aggro because of my level.
One feature I would like added is when the add-on outputs the "FOUND!" chat message, that it also outputs the coordinates as well, because sometimes it will find creatures when I'm on a wind rider flight path, which means I'd need to backtrack and try to locate it. Thanks for the good work! |

Thanks for this great addon !
![]() Today I switched from ESN Rare to NPCScan and NPCScan.Overlay (ESN hasn't been updated in a very long time) and so far I'm impressed. Only things I'm missing are options to scale the Alert button (the default size is too large to fit nicely in my UI) and to turn off the 3D model on top of it (too much bling bling to my opinion ![]() Hope you can implent these options some time in a later release. |

How close in a zone do you have to be to the npc for the scan to pick them up?

is it possible to scan for object id's in the cache like you do for npc id's? I ask because of the fact that raptor pets come off objects instead of npc's now and i was just curious if there was a way to detect them as they are sometimes very hard to see.

Saiket, I've completed Frostbitten, Bloody Rare, and have trained all of the Spirit Beasts because of _NPCcan and _NPCScan Overlay. Just recently, I've found the Time-Lost Proto-Drake too!
Thanks so much! |
