AmbientAura  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.2
by: Seerah [More]

It's Back! Now updated for Cataclysm!

This will not work on the live realms, as it uses a new function from the Cata client.
Since the previous models had disappeared, the new models are different. But this means that I finally found some that I like. Screenshots have been updated.

This addon creates a swirly fog effect along the bottom of your screen using animated models from the game, colored by combat/resting status. Height and alpha of the fog are configurable.

It was inspired by FogBG by yleaf, which creates frames that hold the blue fog to use as backgrounds for the elements of your UI. AmbienceAura, however, places the fog along the bottom of your screen, and will color green if resting, red if in combat, or blue if normal.

New in version 1.1
There is a new dropdown menu in the options, where you can select how to use AmbientAura. Settings are also now stored per character. You can use AmbientAura to display:
- Combat/Resting
This is how AmbientAura works by default.
- In Combat = red
- Resting = green
- Normal = blue
- Warrior stances
- Battle stance = red
- Defensive stance = blue
- Berserker stance = green
- Death Knight auras
- Blood presence = red
- Frost presence = blue
- Unholy presence = green
- Red fog always
- Blue fog always
- Green fog always

FAQ:

Where are the options?
The options panel is located on the addons page of the Interface Options panel. Hit escape, go to Interface, click the AddOns tab, and you'll see AmbientAura listed there. You can also get there by /ambientaura or /aa.

I want the fog easier to see (or to see through).
You can find sliders to set both the height and alpha/density of the fog in its options panel.

How can I give feedback?
Feel free to leave your comments/questions here, but all bug reports and feature requests need to go to my portal if you want me to remember to do them.

Can I use your code/textures?
All use of my code separate from AmbientAura must be for your own personal use and may not be redistributed separate from the addon. You may use snippets of my code in addons you intend to distribute only after receiving permission, and credit must be given.

Can I redistribute this addon?
My addons may only be redistributed in UI compilations, and any mention of the addon must point to its download page or my portal, both on wowinterface.

It seems that there is a problem in 3.2 with the fog textures (other people are having issues as well). I haven't had time to look into it yet, though.

Would it be possible to have a kinda "box" the aura is inside? I would like it to stay within a set amount of pixels in height for my UI. If I change the height in the options the fog becomes almost transparent and you can't see it that well. If it's to high it bleeds into the rest of the screen area which looks bad. :P

I want it to stay below the XP bar. :P

Thanks. Really awesome addon. ^^

also thank the stars and wowinterface.com for the 15 minutes of fame box. I swear I check every new and updated addon every damn day for at a few months now and NEVER saw this one! This is quite a cool and neato thing you've provided us!

I would like to second the question someone asked below as well, any type of estimate on or IF this can greatly effect FPS in game? I'm wondering how much harder my or anyone's addon memory might be effected to.

I run addon heavy as it is already averaging 35mb usage standing around doing nothing, don't even ask about 25 man's or 40 man WG's runs... I'd love to look at something more pretty but it will be all I'm doing if I add to much more memory intensive addons lol...

thanks in advance and great addon please add or tell us how to do moreeee!

If I'm not mistaken that actually isn't a fog but rather a full on enviromental aura glow effect (probably mystified type like effect added as some sort of filter to make it seemingly more like fog).

However, now that I think about it though, I'm trying to remember what being dead looked more like back in the day before the death effect video option was added to the game video settings... think then it was more just white hueish with a sort of linear/negative like overlay to the environment setting.

I don't remember if there is a black fog... I'll look into it. But post your feature request at my portal, please, so it goes on the list.

Thank you very much for the reply, although setting that option turns in to an error, it gave me the motivation to try playing with the code some more and found the solution .

Anyone experiencing the same problems just has to find the line

The fog itself doesn't cover the whole frame that the model is in. I have no clue why yours seems to be different than his screenshots, but you could try fiddling with the model scale. You'd need to know the frame names and do
Code:
frame:SetModelScale(x)
where frame is the name of the frame, and x is the scale value (1 = 100%)
http://wowprogramming.com/docs/widge.../SetModelScale

I know this probably isn't a great place to ask but..could you(Seerah) or anyone else show me how to increase the height/transparency of the FogBG addon by yleaf? (the commenters on fogBG itself doesn't seem to know how)

All of the blue fog in his screen shots show it rising to at least 50% of the (actionbar)frame while the one I have installed only goes up to 15%~.

I've maxed my spell detail etc. and even tried to mess with the code for a few hours, any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

lol I think that this could be fun

I don't have the mental energies to do it now, but when I do get to it (after spartan's updated, etc etc, have time) I'll try to upload a pic. Might be a while though lol

Hi, Jeania.

There's nothing stopping it from working with SpartanUI. Currently, the frame that holds the fog textures sits in the background. So, you'd have to fiddle with the height slider to get it where you can see it over the SpartanUI panel. If you want it *over* the SpartanUI panel at the bottom (with a low height) then you'd need to add a line of code to the lua changing it's level/strata to be over Spartan's.
