Skada Damage Meter  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.8.2
by: zarnivoop, funkydude, oscarucb

Skada is a modular damage meter with various viewing modes, segmented fights and customizable windows. It aims to be highly efficient with memory and CPU.

Usage

When you first start using Skada, there will be a window created by default. This window can be extensively customized in Skada's configuration panel; click the little cog icon to access a menu, and then click Configure. Depending on your user interface, there may also be a minimap button allowing quick access to this menu.

Skada supports multiple windows. To create a new window, click Windows in the addon's configuration panel. There are three built-in types of windows - Bar, Inline, and Data text. Bar is the classic damage meter window, and is very customizable. Inline shows the meter in a horizontal line, which can be useful for integration in custom user interfaces. Data text shows just one item at a time, and can also be displayed by any LDB display addon, such as Titan Panel, ChocolateBar, or ElvUI.

In the normal Bar window, you can left click on specific items for more detailed information, and right click for less details. At the very "top" is the list of all saved fight segments. Some data modes have several detailed information views. In this case you choose alternate views by holding certain keys pressed while clicking. For example, in Damage mode, you can Shift-click a player to see what enemies the player caused damage to. Tooltips will display how to reach the different views.

You can also use window buttons for selecting fight segment and mode directly.

Scrolling in Skada is done with the mousewheel.

Plugins

Skada is very easy to extend, and there are many extra plugin addons out there that add functionality, such as:

There is a forum thread for discussion on Skada.
Suggestions and bug reports here. Bug reports in comments will be deleted. There is a page with API information here.

"Skada" is Swedish for "Damage".

What this means, is that in a five min fight, where you took a one min break, recount will show your dps over four min, while skada will show it over five min and thus show a lower dps. You could argue a long time which method is the most correct one.
May be we need 2 differnt DPS numbers like the following,

DPS - is simply Damage divided by the combatant's duration.
ExtDPS or Extended Damage Per Second - calculated as Damage divided by the encounter's duration.

Thats what ACT (EQ2 damge meter) foes

IMHO the best way is one on WWS: it shows to you your "instant" DPS (like recound do), your active time and your "actual" DPS = instant_dps * active_time% (like Skada).

I was looking at this addon to replace Omen / Recount duo that I currently use, but I can't make sense of the numbers that Skada is producing.

Is this my own user error? Or is it an induced error because I have Recount running? Help.
I'm also having this issue. I have tested data against recount (on test dummy as well as ulduar) the dps is always off but the damage is correct. DPS is off upwards of 400. Also have noticed that I can be at 5k dps during the fight but as soon as i drop combat, i see a substantial drop (went from 5.2k dps to 3.4k dps on Iron Council last night). A 50 dps +/- is workable but 400+ is too much of a margin of error. I love this addon and don't want to be forced to use another one. Please look at how dps is calculated and maybe try to tweak it. Thank you for your work!

A minor issue..
When I was using Enhancement spec as a shaman
The damage meter could show the attack portion of my damage

but when I mouseover it or click into it, it shows the damage done by the spirit wolves...
it fails to show the crit, hit or dodge about my normal attack..

One more issue:

When the bars set up is to grow up then on mode switch it shows LAST (bottom) positions, that leads me to scroll it up when combat starts (threat mode auto). Can you make that it showed the FIRST (top) bars by default?

I`m having a problem where the Threat display always uses the ClassColoredBar option even if it`s unticked and a custom color is set, in the window setup.

Zarnivoop, is there anywhere that details the exact additions to the combatlog and how absorbs are now tracked? Our healers are trying to work out how accurate absorb mode is.
There was no change in 3.1; it is still guesswork.

Absorb mode works like this: when someone is hit, and the combat log entry for this hit has an absorbed value of more than 0, we check if there are any sheild-type auras on the person being hit. If so, pick the one with the least time remaining. Attribute the absorbed value to the player who put on this shield.

It should be very accurate if there is only 1 player using shields. If there are multiple, it is a best effort only, as we have no way of knowing who really caused the absorb.

I should probably rename it "Absorb estimates".

Could you possibly add an option that makes the combat switch not activate in battleground ?

One thing I would love is a report function for current window, i was trying to report the flash freeze enemy damage taken from, and ended up doing it manually, which isn't much of a complaint because I love that feature. I would probably just end up making it a macro to report current window, to show how useful I would find it.

Great addon! Like many others have said, it replaced Recount for me. I have come across some odd behaviors though. Nothing that limits usage, just ascetics.

The default window, "Skada" does not seem to honor the "# of bars" setting in preferences. It displays a larger number of bars, well beyond the boundary of the background (if enabled).

Additionally, there is a margin (not controlled by the "margin" preference) between the bars and the side boundaries of the background.

Lastly, if you disable the title bar, the first bar of data is displayed in the same place as the title bar. This puts half of the bar above the top edge background's border.
