WoWInterface is happy to announce that we have teamed up with Wowhead and the Norganna's AddOns Gatherer team to provide you with an exclusive downloadable Wowhead database for display in-game by Gatherer.
This addon will provide you with all the information currently in the Wowhead database showing all known locations of herbs, minerals and treasures. Now you can simply load up Gatherer, plug this database into it, and know what can be found in the zone you are in, without having to discover them yourself.
Wowhead will be providing regular dumps of their database to the Norganna team, who will then update the GathererDB Wowhead addon exclusively here on WoWInterface.
How it works
The import procedure is simple and painless. Once you have installed the AddOn and have reloaded the game, ensuring that both Gatherer and GathererDB_Wowhead are activated. When you finally log into the game, follow this procedure to import the new data into Gatherer:

CKlint,
There is a reason, as noted many times now. Keep in mind that this is certainly not our only "project" and is only a secondary aid to the main Gatherer line. Gatherer has been updated more than once since WotLK and will continue to be updated when needed- and when our volunteers have the time to do so. If you, or anyone else, would like to join the team and take over this particular aspect of this project, we more than welcome the help! We can surely always use experienced Lua developers, especially those with SQL database creation and data import/export knowledge and expertise. Simply post a note in the Gatherer subsection of our main forums at http://Forums.Norganna.Org . As to the sharing of data, that is included within Gatherer's basic framework. You can share to your guild and, or, party completely automatically or send specific nodes to others... have no idea about any other addons that are supposed to do that, since it is included. Happy Gatherering, Nikk

Re: We get it!
Ryan,
Truly appreciate the offer- we just do not have the data yet, is all. The most that folks can do is to use the http://www.wowhead.com/?client so that WoWHead is able to accrue and combine all of the data. Once the data meets their standards, they pass that information on to us. At that point, it's pretty simple to do, we simply need the data to import is all. We'll be sure to put up a notice when that happens- you can also add the database as a favorite and WoWInterface can email or PM you when it is updated. Happy Gatherering, Nikk

Hi there, Apaseall,
Keep in mind that Gatherer was created prior to the existence of many of the "database" sites, much less those showing maps of the mining, herbalism, and treasure locations. The whole point of Gatherer was, and is, to simply record the specific point where one of your characters has gathered a certain ore, herb, or treasure. By recording these locations, you can then know which area, and sub-area, to visit when you require a certain type of ore, herb, or treasure. When you use the HUD, you can further ensure that you have "covered" the entire area, ensuring that your time spent gathering is as productive as possible. GathererDB originated about a year ago, in response to requests from our users for some sort of "starter database" for those new to WoW or for those occasions when they lost their personal database for one reason or another. Most of the team, myself included, run a separate data file for testing purposes, but as for when we are playing ourselves, use Gatherer with only the nodes we have "discovered" ourselves. We actually find that to be a big part of the fun- discovering the nodes on our own, rather than knowing where they will spawn. So... what does any of this have to do with you? Based upon what you are saying, you have been gathering items and adding them to your own database without issue, et cetera. The fact that you are finding locations that do not currently have an item spawned upon them is by Blizzard's design. For every zone, there are only so many nodes active at a time. What Gatherer does is point you to the locations where there *may* be a node of a specific type, rather than having to wander aimlessly. The current database consists of all of the nodes that had been submitted to WoWHead as of 07 November 2008. Normally the nodes are moved or adjusted between beta and live; hence having to wait for the locations of the new nodes. The new nodes should be added pretty soon, by the way. For some more information about the nodes and their spawn behavior, see http://www.elsanglin.com/pool_appearance.html . That discusses fishing pools, but the same sort of paradigm exists for all nodes, each is not active at all times, most areas tend to rotate which nodes are active for each profession. Hope this helps clear up any misunderstanding. Happy Gatherering, Nikk

Folks,
There is no super-secret conspiracy, though it would make things at least semi-interesting if there were. Once we have the data, it will be included. Until then, Gatherer works exactly as it has for years now- and has worked since the release of WotLK. Happy Gatherering, Nikk |

I find it annoying that people are crying about WOTLK data not being fully gathered after the game has been out for just over a week and Beta gathers may not be exactly the same as the Live-gathers. There are a ton of level 80's out there already that are herb/ore farming with a database that's much more extensive than anyone who's complaining about the addon.
So go get yourself to 77, get your Cold Weather Flying Skill . And do some flying around. This addon will be there for when/if you lose all your data of gathering in the game someway or somehow. I'm very grateful for this type of addon surviving for so long. There have been so many good addons that died out before TBC because the authors moved on. |
