Torta

Version: 0.2.32
by: Quezacolt [More]

After a couple weeks of being wtfpwnt by 3.0, Checklist has been resurrected with a new name: Torta.

This version is a preview of what Torta will be like. Included are most of the old Checklist features, and one new thing: Drag and drop reordering of lists and tasks. Try it out!

Wait, what? Does this thing spit turtles out or something?
Torta is an addon intended to help keep track of the various thingamajigs you have to routinely do. These can be dailies, shopping lists, gear wishlists, achievement stuff - basically anything you usually write down on paper and cross out as you go. Torta makes your life a bit easier (and saves you paper). Coming soon is a notebook feature which will act as a... I don't think it needs further explanation

Beta? Why not wait for release THEN put it up here?
I'm posting this mainly for feedback on the overall UI style. Many bits are still unfinished, but it's very usable at this stage. It's better if I get a "THIS DOESN'T WORK!!!11!!!elevendyone!!" at this early stage than if I get it when things get too big to easily change.

Other things coming soon include:

  • Torta Notebook (formerly Checklist Notes)

Oddities:
  • The shortcut for saving task text in the task editor is shift-ESC due to how multiline editboxes in WoW do not give notification when the enter button is pressed.

The slash command to bring up the window is /torta.

Also, betas will be pushed out less frequently now. The next one will be released when major things have been added. It's a good thing, trust me.

I'm looking forward to hearing your feedback!

PS: Development is being put on hold until I hit 80. Please bear with me

The reason why it's called "Torta"
To confuse the heck out of someone searching for a working copy of Checklist?

I found the name "Checklist" to be somewhat boring after a while. Plus, with the addition of Checklist Notes in Checklist2, the name was descriptive of only a part of the addon. Next, no one has problems with "PitBull" as the name for a UF addon, or Chinchilla as the name for a minimap addon, so I felt it would be fine. Lastly, the new name allows the addon to be free to be a bit more than just a simple checklist.

There's also a notice on top of the Checklist page to lead people to this page, by the way. Anyone looking for Checklist will be able to find this page.

Hey, I'm all for creative license and all, but um, don't get me wrong- I blundered into this by sheer chance, you realize?

I wouldn't have known about it otherwise. And not everyone thinks to check the text of the page itself. Some people just download directly from the list format. Generally speaking, I'm more curious than most, but even I figured Checklist just uh, wasn't being supported anymore.

Expression's great, but there's some points where it needs to give way to practicality, you know?

In other news, the List Renaming function no worky:

Interface\AddOns\Torta\UIManager.lua:568: attempt to index a nil value

And it'd be nice if this had some FuBar support.

Now fixed with 0.1.38. Thanks for the bug report!

By the way, FuBar support is something I'm definitely aiming for.

I heard that Fubar wasn't being supported any more, not sure if that's correct or not. LDB support would rock though

Torta will support FuBar, although not in the same way as Checklist did.

Torta is Ace-based, and uses LibStub. FuBar and LibFubarPlugin-3.0 (the latest versions) are Rock-based. The plan is to use LibDataBroker, which is LibStub-based. FuBar goodness could then be achieved though Broker2FuBar.

That's the plan at the moment. May be subject to change.

(by the way, looking through the LDB forums, the above gets me Titan support too. Two birds with one stone!)

That is incorrect, LibDataBroker is NOT "Ace" based. LDB is its own library framework. Launchers/Data Feeds/Displays often do use the Ace3 framework; however, they do not have to use Ace2/Ace3 at all. An example of a none Ace3 using LDB mod, nanoTalk:

Lib\LibStub.lua
Lib\CallbackHandler-1.0.lua
Lib\LibDataBroker-1.1.lua
Lib\tekKonfigButton.lua
Lib\tekKonfigCheckBox.lua
Lib\tekKonfigHeading.lua
Lib\tekKonfigSlider.lua
Lib\tekKonfigAboutPanel.lua

See any Ace2/Ace3 framework libs in there? LibStub and CallbackHandler-1.0 are not part of the Ace3 framework although the Ace3 framework does make use of that pair. However many "non-Ace" mods also make use of LibStub/CallBackHandler-1.0 so they can make use of other "framework agnostic" Libs among other things.

Eek!

I used "Ace" when I meant "LibStub" - post has now been corrected.

Excellent, I hate nitpicking but I have done enough AddOn support with users in my guild and also around my server. So many of them have gotten into this mentality of "Its Ace thus its a great AddOn", when really its not the framework that makes a good AddOn but the author using the framework and coding the AddOn.

You don't even have to mention LibStub. LibStub is meant to be "invisible" to the user. Just simply mention that you are going to be using a LDB Launcher/Data Feed for Torta which allows Torta to be accessible by a wide variety of LDB Displays, including Titan Panel. That is all the end user/casual AddOn hacker really needs to know. Those who would need to know more can look up LibDataBroker on this site or others.

Hey,

I used to be a checklister, with heaps of alts I swap items and level all the professions so its very important addon for my playtime. Currently I'm waiting for this addon since checlist2 just doesn't work, and kills a lot of other addons as well.

Is torta in usable form now, or not yet?

Thanks!

It's very much in a usable state. I try my best to make sure that everything that reaches this page will not asplode in your face, throw poo in your other addons, and make you scream.

Description

One thing I did not notice when viewing the addon page was the description of what the addon did. I'm not one to randomly download an addon to see what it does and then decide, but I like to see what an addon actually does BEFORE I download it. I usually just skip over them. (I came here from your link in your sig :P). Just giving you some heads up...

Heya

I haven't tried the updated version yet but one thing I would like is some other way to open it then typing slash command - a minimap button or broker support maybe.
