MetaHud - Nuckin Branch  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v30300-8.5
by: Nuckin [More]

MetaHud - Nuckin Branch is a Heads Up Display Add-on for World of Warcraft 3.0 and above. It is a continuation of the original MetaHud by MetaHawk which was discontinued after Patch 2.4.3.

Although MH-Nuckin is a continuation, it isn't the same. MH-Nuckin is focused on remaining encapsulated as a self sustaining Add-on without requiring other libraries. As thus, its feature set differs from MetaHud's.

As of v30100-8.0, MetaHud - Nuckin Branch no longer includes a cast bar. I suggest using my stand alone cast bar called Circle Cast.

MetaHud - Nuckin Branch Features: (as of v30100-8.0)

  • Curved Verticle Health, Mana, Rage, Energy, and Runic Power bars for Player, Target, and Pets.
  • Target's Target Name and Health Bar.
  • Reskinnable Bar Backgrounds.
  • Death Knight rune support.
  • Movable Death Knight Runes.
  • Skinnable Death Knight Runes.
  • Target Buffs (40) and Target Debuffs (40).
  • Countdown timers on all Target Auras.
  • Movable and Resizable Target Auras.
  • Target range indicator.
  • Target guild display.
  • Resting, PvP, Combat, Leader, and Looter icons.
  • Text based Threat Meter.
  • Unique HUD texture that are exclusive to MetaHud - Nuckin Branch.
  • In Game graphical configuration tool to make MetaHud look and feel how you want.
  • Savable Profiles per Warcraft Account.

I have tried IceHud and a few others when the original author of MetaHud stopped working on it, and I found them to be far inferior.

As for the cast bar, I never used it, I use Quartz which I find to be a very good cast bar, it even allows for latency so you can start casting your next spell sooner, which is great for me as I am in Australia and play with latency of 600+ most days.
Its mostly not because of WoWInterface users. I have worked on 8.0 for 4 months, tested it for hours. I have brought Alpha builds to Ulduar progression raids, done UI Refreshes inbetween Yogg-Sarron attempts. I personally loved 8.0 and was very proud of it.

My fan base has let me know that they don't want new innovative improvements to the classic HUD design, They just want more features packed into a design structure that cannot accommodate.

Curse.com's MetaHud following was rude to the point of my disabling of comment posting on the Curse project page for MetaHud.

But everything is up in the air at the moment and I haven't made any final decisions on the direction I will be taking my projects, both released and unreleased ones.

As many others have already said, I am *sorely* missing the old cast bar. It sounds like it was a relic and no longer maintainable so I can appreciate that it had to be removed. MetaHUD (or one of it's great-great-grandfathers) was the very first mod I installed and I've been using it ever since.

I've looked at the Circle Cast mod, which looks pretty slick. But it's not for me, in addition to MetaHUD, i think it'd be a bit busy. Unless, you were able to somehow configure Circle Cast to fit in and mold to the rest of MetaHUD, I'd suggest not packaging them together. But that's just my .02

In lieu of the missing cast bar, would you (or anyone else) be able to make any reccomendations of some MetaHUD-like mods?

Regardless of which mod I wind up using, I thank you for all of your work in keeping the mod up to date!

My question is since i've updated, whenever a mob's aggroe'd me, i see a bar abovoe my hud bar.. according to my "move anything" addon, it tells me it's part of Metahuds ToT thing, but i have the ToT turned off..
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Keep up the good work!
Several posts about it below yours. No solution have been found yet. Just resize the totbar in settings and make it really small for now (config -> target tab -> ToT Health)

The END all be all of this discussion

1). The old cast bar had some serious issues in its programming implementation, that's why it was removed. It will never come back.

2). I may be open to the idea of packaging circle cast into MetaHud.

3). There will never be an option to manually set your buff sizes to anything but double the other buffs. If you look closely at the layout and run the numbers, there is no clean way to implement it.

Lorelei: thank you, i'll investigate once WoW is reinstalled.

an issue of no cast bar at all... I miss it. it was in my opinion a good implementation of the cast bar.

I was having the ToT problem also (even after the latest update) so I just decided to leave it enabled for now. When it is disabled, it will disappear, but the bar will reappear from time to time in combat (usually when something targets me, but possibly also my pet) but the bar won't be "active". By that I mean that the bar won't change based on ToT's health, nor will it be labeled, but it will pop up nonetheless.

One "feature request" I have is the option to *only* show my own debuffs and buffs. I often don't find the need to track every other debuff on the mob, but I do want to see my own.

One thing I would like would be the option to set separate sizes for your own and others buffs/debuffs. With the current system where you can only select your own to be the double size I end up with a too small frame for the other peoples buffs, but too big for my own (size 15 is too small for other peoples buffs, and 30 it too big for my own). So the option to have separate size sliders would be nice.
Another option I would like would be the option to have the old layout as in 7.6. I prefer that one over the new one, and I just reverted to the old version because of that.

Re: Cast bar functionality gone

I've followed MetaHUD for the last year or two across the change in programmers etc and i have to say I've enjoyed all of the improvements over time. Unfortunately for me, the last update was a deal breaker and i was forced to revert to an earlier version due to the cast bar removal/highlight from the HUD. It's directly in the field of vision which means it's always visible to me no matter where I look on screen and it was perfect for timing my casts as a druid for wrath/starfire etc. Going back to an old cast bar via blizzard console ui or other UI so far has been a complete and utter failure.

I saw mention of a seperate UI for cast bars that might be incorporated(or even dl'd seperately) and wondered for the people that enjoyed the old cast bar incorporation into the HUD if it was similar enough to replace it?

My hats off to Nuckin for all the work you've done, the buff/debuff icon change and the DK's runes in the last patches are wonderful but without the cast bar functionality available in some form it's a moot point for me i'm afraid.

It's my hope some compromise can be reached for the next update.
Why was the cast function removed?

Currently working on a complete reformat of my main system (have been putting it off in order to ship 8.0). Once Windows 7 finally transfers my media I will reinstall WoW and double check I uploaded the correct archive as 8.1.

Circle Cast is dead center of the screen, can't be any closer to your line of sight.
