by: totalpackage, drjebus, Sugarwing

Cellular is an instant messenger mod (for only whispers) based on the functionality of an old version of ForgottenChat.

YouTube Intro

Features:

  • Many appearance options
  • History log
  • A way to copy text
  • Reuse of the default chat editbox
  • Whispers shown in separate windows or a tab-based single window
  • Should work with most spam filter mods
  • ...and other basic IM features
  • !! New !! Language support for enUS / enGB and deDE

How to Use:
  • "/cellular", check Interface Options->AddOns, or right-click a window for options
  • Left-click a window to toggle the editbox
  • Left-click a tab to activate it
  • Shift-left-click and drag a window to move
  • Shift-left-click and drag bottom-right corner to resize
  • Right-click a tab for show/close/options dropdown
  • Middle-click a tab to close
  • Hold ctrl and close any window/tab to quick remove from history
  • Several convenient buttons (some require shift clicking for confirmation reasons)

Warnings:
  • If you have history enabled and notice that Cellular is using a lot of memory, you should cleanup your history entries using Cellular's history options.
  • If you're experiencing crashing due to memory errors, disable and clear your history.
  • If you cherish your history, you can back up the saved variables file and then delete it. You can view it in any text editor later. The location of the saved variables file is here:
    ...\WTF\Account\<Account Name>\<Server Name>\<Character Name>\SavedVariables\Cellular.lua

@ Sec and Taigen - you two are looking at the wrong mod. The general method for kgpanels is to mouse over a frame and run this script:
Code:
/run print(GetMouseFocus():GetName())

Seems like an awful lot of precious screen real estate to give up so I was hoping there was a way to hide it behind the general tab and have the top of it flash or something when you get a new whisper. I play on a kinda small monitor by most gamers' standards and between omen, recount, grid, unit frames, LDB feeds and DBM raid warnings, I dont have much more room
I came to the comments section for Cellular right at this moment, seeking information if this was plausible.

What I am attempting to do is the following:

1) Attach a kgpanels frame to Cellular. This will act as a background (cellular's background color being set to totally opaque).
2) Have Cellular sized so that it is not as wide as my chat window, but slightly taller so that character name (or tabs) are visible.
3) When I click Cellular, it will be brought in front of the chat window.
4) When I click the chat window, it then will be brought in front of Cellular.

This would imitate a toggling of frames and in theory, would save a bit of screen real estate. However, I'm not the most adept individual when it comes to kgpanels scripting so I'm doing a bit of rooting around.

If you end up trying this method and succeed, Taigen, would you please either PM me or reply here with the method you used.?

Nope, it's just add friend, ignore player, and invite to group.

Well is there a way to make it just a simple click only? Cause I really don't wanna put forth the extra effort to hold shift and press it... because I'm always doing alot at once, and have my hands full.

In some of the tooltips, it says "Hold shift to execute" or something like that. It means to hold the shift key and then click. That is there to prevent accidents. A lot of options in Cellular requires that, so make sure to take note.

Is there not any other addons that do what Cellular and WIM do? I am having alot of trouble find one that is updated for patch 3.3 that has working features, and that I am truly happy with. I'm hoping somebody can help me with this, becuase Whispers become overwhelming in game, especially when there are way too many little kids whispering me asking me questions about stuff... (eh they even spam party invites, and if I don't click accept they type a ";(" face at me... it's quite annoying)

Cellular in combo with basically any huge mod may cause a crash according to past reports. My suggestions are to clean/disable the history or avoid using Cellular .

If the entire module is disabled, you cannot disable the individual sound.
