Version: 10.0.001
by: totalpackage, drjebus, Sugarwing

Cellular is an instant messenger mod (for only whispers) based on the functionality of an old version of ForgottenChat.

YouTube Intro

Features:

  • Many appearance options
  • History log
  • A way to copy text
  • Reuse of the default chat editbox
  • Whispers shown in separate windows or a tab-based single window
  • Should work with most spam filter mods
  • ...and other basic IM features
  • !! New !! Language support for enUS / enGB and deDE

How to Use:
  • "/cellular", check Interface Options->AddOns, or right-click a window for options
  • Left-click a window to toggle the editbox
  • Left-click a tab to activate it
  • Shift-left-click and drag a window to move
  • Shift-left-click and drag bottom-right corner to resize
  • Right-click a tab for show/close/options dropdown
  • Middle-click a tab to close
  • Hold ctrl and close any window/tab to quick remove from history
  • Several convenient buttons (some require shift clicking for confirmation reasons)

Warnings:
  • If you have history enabled and notice that Cellular is using a lot of memory, you should cleanup your history entries using Cellular's history options.
  • If you're experiencing crashing due to memory errors, disable and clear your history.
  • If you cherish your history, you can back up the saved variables file and then delete it. You can view it in any text editor later. The location of the saved variables file is here:
    ...\WTF\Account\<Account Name>\<Server Name>\<Character Name>\SavedVariables\Cellular.lua

I'm assuming that you have to go into the lua to set different profiles for each chracter?

Or am I just dumb and missed the option in the in game gui? (this is more likely)

Nice addon btw, picked it up tonight and it's really cool.

Edit: Never mind, just swapped toons just to see what happened. The settings saved. Disregard. Just accept my gratitude for the addon. It's really good.

Thumbs up Awsome...

2 feature requests to make this a perfect mod.

1. Cursor editing of the current chat line. ie left and right arrows.
2. The ability to cut to clipboard text lines, like URL's whispered.

Both these things are features I use in ChatMOD if you are looking for code samples.
If these features already exist, then I couldn't find them, can you tell me where they are or how to operate them.

Thanks for the awsome work so far.

1. If you're using a chat mod that enables arrow keys, then it would work with Cellular since Cellular simply relocates the default chat editbox.

2. If you have history enabled, there's a scroll button on the bottom left side that allows you to copy text.

kgPanels?

From what I can tell, Cellular uses an anonymous frame (even causes errors when using a frame name finder script macro).

Is there any way you could assign a name to the cellular window so that people would be able to parent kgpanels/eepanels to it? Or, if there is a frame name already that I am unable to find, could you pass that along? Thanks!

edit: I had an old version. Got the new one, and everything's going smoothly. Thanks a bunch!

The windows do have a name, but you have to know where to check. Check an area w/o buttons or w/o a tooltip popping up (which is about 75% of the window). Also, make sure you have the latest version (3.1.003).

Hide window

There is the option to fade old messages. Would it be possible to extend that option, or add a new option to fade the whole window too? Right now the whole window only becomes invisible when I manually close all tabs. But it would be awesome if it would disappear on it's own at the same time old messages are faded. Many thanks in advance if this could be added ).

Last update (004) brought class coloring for 3.2...
But in 3.1 it seems to bring another color problem: new whispers tab text is now white instead of former red.

I assume it's some kind effect of class coloring, since I couldn't find a way to actually change the color of said text.

Or I'm blind and I missed it

Yea, just found that out. Use the previous version for now since it doesn't add anything new except 3.2 class color support. I'll wait til 3.2 to release the fix.

Since you refuse to work with Prat's author to resolve the editbox positioning conflict, would you consider adding an option to disable Cellular's repositioning of the editbox? I've been manually hacking that functionality out whenever I get annoyed enough with WIM to update and switch back to Cellular

I've looked at Prat's code to provide support for its chat sounds, no collaborating required. In my opinion, Prat should just use a second SetPoint instead of SetWidth for undocking. Anyway, sorry, no option to disable it. Be proud of your ability to code and freedom of choice.

Hey, with the latest version of Cellular, when it labels the tab title red for a new message, and like you click it, that red sticks and doesn't go away, and/or it'll stay withteh (#) even after clicking it. See if you can reproduce it. Thanks thought i'd report it.
