CursorCastbar  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 2.5b
by: Duugu, humfras

CursorCastBar adds circular cast bar(s) to your mouse cursor.

Cast bar, Global Cooldown Bar, Mirror Bar, Remaining cast time, Spell Name, Spell Icon, and more.

The configuration is done via the Blizzard interface options.

TO DO (in no particular order):

  • Healing Bar - incoming heal/overheal for current cast/target
  • optional focus castbar
  • optional round spell icons
  • modifier/key to temporary hide the bars or set the opacity to very low (eg in critical situations)
  • more bar layout options (start point, end point, etc)
  • text for the mirror bar

Known Bugs:
  • Bug: Mac client crashes with high-res textures. This is known a game bug within the Mac client. It happens with large textures above 512*512 pixels.
Solution: Don't choose the high-res bar textures. Choose textures 1, 2, or 3. The game shouldn't crash with them.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear user

My WoW subscriptions end in may 2011. After more than six years playing WoW and developing addons I absolutely can't find a reason to continue. The direction Blizzard is steering with WoW is more than unfruitful.
The game is dead. It's an empty shell. A sad moment, but that's the way it is.

This means of course all of my addons are discontinued as from now. Thank you very much for using them and for providing me feedback and input. A very special thank you goes to the few people who donated for them. There would be much more and better stuff if more people would act like you. Thank you.

I hereby explicitly reject any attempts to continue, take over or reuse this addon, the addons source code, the contents or parts of it.
If you are willing and able to continue this addon I may grant you the right to do this if you contact me, ask for it, and convince me that you are able to do it in the long run.

I’m looking forward to meet everyone of you again in SWTOR.

All the best to you

Duugu

Hm. Yes. There are a lot of textures. It's the only way to rotate text. But the zipped addon's size isn't 5 MB.
I can't see the advantage of separate texture. Could you please exemplify this?

Static memory usage should never impact performance aside from loading times, unless you have like 512mb ram. And because the textures aren't loaded if they aren't being used, what exactly is your problem with it?

Personally, I wouldn't use an addon with 10+ directories included just because that makes my addons directory quite a lot harder to manage. I don't want to be bothered with deleting directories every time I update, or managing updates/maintenance on all those skin packs.

TLDR: It's perfectly fine the way it is. If it's not using an excessive amount of cpu/memory, then there's no reason to change it.

EDIT: I'll do a little testing when I do dailies later, to see if I get the same problems as below.

great addon; I love it. 2 bugs found

the castbar has problem with special "spell" like bombs in Quel'danas bombing quest. the castbar stays on the screen, not following the cursor anymore.

-
when you create a mage portal, the castbar is also stucked and move after the cursor jerkily.

-
I hope a great future for this addon.

-
feature : maybe the text of the cast should be horizontal, to the right of the cursor/rings.

-
Many thanks for the work

Textures

First off, really nice work. This addon is very visually appealing and quite functional. However, I'm not sure I'll be using it because I'm such a picky bastard. Here you have < 100kb of Lua, which is great. Then you have 5MB of textures, which is bad. But of course, they aren't loaded unless they're used, so memory usage is still around 130-150kb. Maybe provide separate "addons" that serve as font/texture storage?

It really does grow on you... I may end up hijacking some code to make a non-circular version with sharedmedia support, just to see how it does.

Aye, very awesome - but needs a small markerbar or so where the latency is. Then this is truly amazing, might win back a lot of screen estate this way.

Eyes are usually where the cursor is anyways, so perfect alignment there.

This looks awesome. As soon as you get a latency bar on this I'm using it.

With this version at least the debug text ("ab") is shown at your mouse cursor. (can see the very small white text in the upper chat frame area)

But the debug messages are as expected.
Can't solve your problem at the moment - at least not remotely. I'm really sorry.

I uploaded a special "debug" version for you here:
http://www.scherbenweltkorps.de/CursorCastbar_DEBUG.zip

You could test this one and post the debug messages that are shown after you enter the world or after you enabled the "Show cast text" option.
Eventually I'm able to find the bug with these debug messages. But without any guarantee.
The text in the screenshot under the BLA comment i did is what happened after i turend off, then on again the show text function.. Nothin happened after i turned it off, so all the text under it is after i selected on..

And dont think my chat is always that large :P
