Odd zip corruption

Hi,

Had a few reports now, and even had it once myself, of a RealUI downloaded .zip file being corrupt in some way. It happened to me once - downloaded the .zip file and it was unable to be opened - but after re-downloading the .zip file it opened with no issue. Had other users report a problem on one device but not another, and other users report that no matter how many times they try they can't open the zip (screenshot).

So far this has happened with .zip files packaged by myself and by Gethe, so was wondering if it was possibly a site issue?

I'll keep an eye on it but downloading directly from our server everything worked for me and downloading directly from the CDN I'm assigned to for my geolocation everything is fine too.

Also looking at the munin stats for our servers I don't see anything stressed.

What is the file size of the one that wont open?

I shall ask. From the picture of his file, it definitely looks half-complete as it's unpacked size is only 19mb and it should be closer to 30+mb.

I've had this problem with multiple files, all of them on the "larger" size. For example, Miiru's texture and icon packs, as well as the Clean Icons packs (tried two different ones).

I'm using Chrome Stable.

The files will begin to DL showing the correct size, then after a bit Chrome will suddenly change the file size to roughly half of what it should be. It will either "complete" at that size, or not even get to that point, stop DLing, then just say complete even though it's only DLed about 1/3rd of the file.

I've also noticed that, using Miiru's Blue and Grey icon packs for example, one file will indicate next to the WoWI "Download" link that it is 56mb, which is, I assume, the actual size, while the other pack will show only 29mb next to the DL link. Neither file will DL correctly and all show an unpacking error upon trying to open them with 7zip.

I've had no problems DLing more standard size addon files from the site, only large ones.

Thanks for the information.

Would it download correctly the second time you tried? Or does it always quit before it finishes? Can you link to one that always has that problem if that happens?

Trying these again in response to your request. I've tried at least twice previously since the patch on each of these.

Here are a couple linkes to try for the first two downloads you listed (it forces the download from our server instead of the CDN). That way I can see if its a CDN or Server issue.

Let me know if it works or doesn't work please.

Also when did you first notice this happening? What is your average download speed?

Sorry for the 20 questions, Thanks for your help!

First link stopped at 12mb, second at 8mb.

Both DLed at around 150-200kbs which is a little slow even for my poor connection.

In case it helps, I'm out in the country on a dedicated wireless connection. Computer itself is wired directly to the router. Usually get DL speeds of 300-700kbs depending on time of day, weather, etc.

In the comments sections of several of the files I've listed there are folks with similar issues. The only successful work around I saw mentioned was to use Firefox with a particular DL manager. Folks using both Chrome and IE reported similar issues.

First noticed it on patch day (Tuesday).

Thanks for testing this for me and the additional information. At least I know its not a CDN issue, its an issue with the server or the network the server is on. Maybe this issue only affects those with slower connections?

I'll see what I can find my self and also run this by some of our other ops people tomorrow and see what they think I can do to improve this.

I'm curious if this is a problem for you on one of our other servers. It has a different network profile than wowinterface.

That file downloaded completely and extracted without incident.

DL speed was about 200KB/s average.

Ok, I've made some changes to the wowinterface backends (more like reverted some recent changes). Can you try downloading larger files to confirm if its fixed or not?

Both of those files downloaded completely and at a good rate (for my miserable connection), and extracted as expected.

Hey Dolby,

In case you want a rapid connection test:
I've 160Mbps down; and can't get over 1k Kbps either.

But never had issues with 30+MB files in the past on here; not even the "broken" direct links you've provided.
