 the slash commands

Very noobish question here but its really bugging me, the /commands how do you type them in.
Most other mods would be something like eg: /tomtom mapcoord hide
but it dos'nt do anything when i type this in for tomtom, i realy want to hide the map coords but other than that, this is an excellent mod.
PS: Ive tried everything i can...
