Rematch is a pet journal alternative to help manage battle pet teams and pets.

Its primary purpose is to store and recall battle pet teams for targets. For instance:

  • When you target Aki the Chosen, bring up the Rematch window and hit Save, you can save in her name the pets you have out.
  • When you return to Aki another day, you can target her, bring up the window and it will offer you those saved pets to load.

How to Use

You can summon the Rematch window several ways:
  • Set a key binding from options.
  • /rematch command.
  • The Rematch button at the bottom of the pet journal.
  • 'Use Minimap Button' in options will create a minimap button.
  • From its LDB button if you use a Broker infobar addon.
  • Have 'Auto Show' checked in options and target something for which you have a saved team that's not already loaded.

Saving a Team

As mentioned at the top, this addon's primary purpose is to save for targets. Target an NPC, click Save, and you will be prompted to save in their name.

If you choose to keep the target's name for the team, then you'll be offered that team to load when you return to it another day. Within options you can choose to make Rematch automatically pop up when you return to that target, or you can make the team load immediately without messing around with the addon at all.

When a team is saved with an NPC targeted, or when saving over an existing team that was initially created at the target, the team's name will be white and it will react only to that specific instance of the NPC.

If you manually name a team named after an NPC without it targeted, or you got the team from elsewhere without targeting information saved, its name will be gold and it will react to any copies of that NPC you run across in the world.

You're also free to save without regard for target. Name your team anything you want and you can return to the teams tab later to load it back from the Teams tab.

Teams

When teams are saved, they're stored in the Teams tab.
  • To load a team manually, double click it.
  • You can create up to 15 additional tabs in addition to the default General team tab.
  • When a team is saved, it will go to the current tab. You can change the current tab while saving at the bottom of the save dialog.
  • All team names are unique, even across tabs. If you have "Aki the Chosen" in a tab named "Dailies", and you save "Aki the Chosen" in General, it will move that team to General and save it there. (But don't worry, if the teams are sufficiently different, it will ask for confirmation first).
  • Right-click a tab to change its name or icon, delete it (or re-order tabs if you've created more than one).
  • When a tab is deleted, all teams within the tab are moved to the General tab.
  • You can right-click a team to do various things as well, such as renaming, deleting or sharing it.
  • You can bind a key to open the Teams tab directly.
  • Searches in the team searchbox will look for matches in team names, team notes and any pet names.

Pets

The Pets tab contains a pet browser and a leveling queue.

Just about anyplace you see a pet, you can double-click it to summon the pet, or dismiss it if it was already out.

The "tooltip" for pets is a pet card with stats:
  • Hold Alt to flip the card over for more about your pet.
  • Click the pet to lock the card in place so you can mouseover abilities.
  • When the card is locked it has a wooden frame around it. You can unlock it several ways: clicking one of the little screws in a corner, clicking the pet again from where you locked it, hitting ESCape or any other major interaction with the addon.
  • You can shift+click pets and abilities to chat.

Some advantages the built-in pet browser has over the default pet journal:
  • You can search the names of abilities or text within abilities.
  • You can search for level and stat ranges.
  • In addition to filtering pets by type, you can filter by 'Strong vs': if you filter Strong vs Dragonkin, it will list all pets with Magic attacks.
  • You can also filter to pets that are Tough vs a type of attack: filtering Tough vs Elemental will list all critters.
  • A 'Type Bar' to filter by the various types without going through the dropdown menus.
  • A counter at the bottom of the browser tells you how many pets are listed: search level=25 and you'll see how many level 25 pets you own.

To clear filters, you can click the little X button in the search box or the type bar, or you can click the X along the bottom when filters are applied. You can also click 'Reset All' within the filters menu.

Searches

In the search bar of the pet browser, you can not only search for names of pets and their source, but you can also search for:
  • Names of abilities ("Call Lightning")
  • Text within abilities ("Bleed")
  • Level ranges ("level=25" or "level>10" or "level=8-13")
  • Stat ranges ("health>700" or "speed=250-350" or "power>=276")

Also:
  • Searches are not case sensitive. "Bleed" will work just as well as "bleed" or "BLEED".
  • You can hit "Fill" on the leveling queue to add one of each species from your search results to the leveling queue.
  • When you look at the pet card, abilities that contain the search text will be marked with a gold ring.
  • You can also search levels, stats and text simultaneously:
  • "bleed health>700 level<25" : Pets with Bleed in text that have over 700hp and are under 25.
  • "level<25 bleed health>700" : Same thing. The order of search isn't important.
  • "health>700 <25 bleed" : Same again. If a stat doesn't appear with a < > or =, it assumes level.

Leveling Pets

Leveling Pets

Thanks to suggestions from Behub, Aloek and others, Rematch has a robust system to make leveling pets easy.

In the Pets tab there is a leveling slot with a shiny gold border. You can drag a pet there to mark it as your leveling pet. (You can also right-click a pet elsewhere like in the journal and choose 'Start Leveling')
  • Any teams saved with pets from the leveling pet will reserve those pets' slots for future leveling pets.
  • When you see a shiny gold border around a pet anywhere in Rematch, it means that is a leveling pet.

So if you save teams for various tamers with a leveling pet, when you return to those tamers later with a different leveling pet, it will load that new leveling pet in their saved places.

The Leveling Queue

In addition to the gold-bordered leveling slot, there is a leveling queue beneath the slot where you can store any number of pets you intend to level.
  • The top-most pet in the queue will always be the same pet that's in leveling slot. Always.
  • You can double-click any pet in the queue to move it up to the leveling slot, making it your active leveling pet.
  • You can also re-order pets in the queue by dragging them around or by right-clicking a pet and using the move options.
  • As soon as a leveling pet reaches 25 (grats!) it will leave the queue. If there are any leveling pets waiting, it will swap the top-most pet into the leveling slot.
  • If a team is saved with more than one leveling pet, the top-most pets will be loaded for those slots.

From the gear button to the right of the leveling slot you can:
  • Sort the queue by level: Ascending (level 1 to 25), Median (closest to level 10.5), Descending (25 to 1), Type (Humanoid then Dragonkin etc), or Time (earliest pets added to the queue to latest).
  • If Active Sort is enabled, then the pets are kept sorted and they can change position as pets gain xp or get added to the queue.
  • You can also fill the queue from pets in the browser. For instance, search "21-24", filter for Rare and hit Fill Queue to add 21-24 rare pets to the leveling queue.
  • Empty the queue. It will ask for confirmation before clearing the queue.

Leveling Pet Preferences

The queue is also able to prefer some pets over others.
  • If a queued pet is one your character can't load (like a wrong-factioned Moonkin Hatchling), it will skip over that pet and prefer pets you can load.
  • In the queue menu you can check "Prefer Live Pets." This will make living pets load before any dead ones.
  • Pets that are not preferred will be darkened in the queue.
  • If preferred pets can't be found to fill all leveling slots, the top-most pets in the queue not already chosen will be used to fill the remaining slots.
  • You can globally disable preferences from checking 'No Preferences' in the queue menu.

You can also save teams with some leveling pet preferences that are active only while that team is loaded.
  • When saving a team with a leveling pet, a button in the lower left will allow you to expand the window to assign leveling pet preferences. These include:
    • Minimum Health: Any pets with at least this much maximum health will be preferred. (Injured pets will use their maximum health for consideration)
    • or any Magic & Mechanical: These two types can survive one hit. For opponents that would only get one swipe at your leveling pet, this option will allow all magic and mechanical pets to be preferred.
    • Maximum Level: Any pets above this level will be skipped, to save from lost xp. Note that the level can be a partial amount: 23.45 is level 23 and 45% towards the next level.
  • To change the leveling preferences of an existing team, right-click a team that contains a leveling pet and choose 'Leveling Preferences'.
  • Teams with a preference will have a leveling icon to the right of their name. Mouseover of this button will show the preferences in a tooltip. Clicking the button will summon a dialog to change preferences.

Sharing Teams

There are two ways to share teams when you right-click one in the Teams tab:

Send: This will send a team to someone online on your faction or to a battle.net friend.
  • When a user receives a team that you Send, they'll receive a popup displaying the team with the option to save it. If they're in combat or they have another team waiting (or a similar dialog up) it will inform you that they're busy and you should try again later.
  • In options you can choose to block incoming pets if you'd like.

Export: This will create a text string that you can copy to the clipboard.
  • You can paste the team anywhere else: in an email, on forums, in a text file, etc.
  • Any other Rematch user can use this string to Import the same team. The Import button is to the left of the search bar in the team tab.

If you receive or import a team that includes pets you don't have, that's fine. They'll be greyed out and only the pets you have will attempt to load. You can keep the team as is for the day when you get the pet, or you can choose to save over it if you find a suitable substitute for the missing pet.

Other Addons

A major goal with Rematch was to make it behave well regardless of what other battle pet addons you're using.

In some cases, it even takes advantage of the awesome addons others have created. For instance:
  • If you have the addon Battle Pet Breed ID enabled, pets will display breed information. If you click a pet and mouseover its stats, you can see all possible breeds for the pet.
  • If you have the addon Pet Battle Teams enabled, there will be a button at the end of options to import your teams from PBT.
  • If you choose to continue using PBT alongside Rematch (many do!), make sure you lock your PBT teams or auto save in PBT is disabled. The default behavior of PBT is to change the pets in your currently-selected team to whatever is loaded.
  • If you have a Broker infobar addon, it will create a button on your bars to toggle Rematch.

Future Plans

Future plans

Right now I'm working on Rematch 4.0 which will have a completely new UI. Goals with the revamp:
  • Less dense UI: Lists and buttons should not feel cramped.
  • Less cumbersome UI: There's too much collapse/stretch business that get in the way of the important functions of the addon. Loading a team should be a one-click effort.
  • Integration with the default pet journal: This is more of a replacement than integration, but looking up pets and creating teams will be done in the journal.
  • Update UI widgets: Larger buttons, more consistent style across elements, less gratuitous use of frames.
  • Trimming of superfluous extras: The leveling carousel will probably go, sorry! It was fun to make but it's too many frames to justify its infrequent use. The independent horizontal/verticle resizing will likely be going too.
  • Greater emphasis on saving for targets: A new panel will display your recent target from where you can either save a team for that target or load its saved team.
  • Large sections of the addon are being rewritten for a better foundation for future changes.
  • All teams, queues and settings will seamlessly work in the new addon.

This is a very large undertaking that may take a while, so any changes to the live version of Rematch in the meantime will likely be minor. But I'm still open to suggestions and of course please comment any and all bugs you encounter.

Beyond 4.0, the plans for Rematch are listed below roughly grouped into three priorities:

Short term:
  • 4.0 as listed above

Mid term:
  • Set leveling preferences for a whole tab.
  • Minimum level preference for queue.
  • Update sharing teams:
    • Include notes and preferences in Import/Export/Send/Receive of teams.
    • Mass Export/Import of teams.
  • A method of tagging pets, owned or not, with custom tags.
  • Mark a team tab to be used with the minimap button.
  • Multiple search terms for pets.
  • A "favorite filters" system.

Long term:
  • Possibly a way to adjust maximum level preference for queue.
  • Understudy pet slot on the pet card for loading an alternate pet if that pet is dead or injured.
  • Possibly some method of choosing alternate teams if the saved team has dead or injured pets.
  • A help or tutorial system.

- Teams can now be indexed by an npcID instead of by name only.
- Team attributes are saved as an unordered table instead of an array.
- Sideline system to abstract the UI from manipulation of teams.
- For users, the above has this effect:
- Existing saved teams are converted to a new format that's not 100% compatible with earlier versions of Rematch.
- Teams named in white do not have to match the name of their target. A match will be made from the NPC ID stored with the team.
- Teams named in white can share a name with other teams. You can have 5 teams named Erris the Collector or Kura Thunderhoof if you want, each saved to the unique version of those NPCs.
- Teams named in gold are required to have a unique name only among other gold-named teams.
- Target matching for gold-named teams will continue to match the name itself, where white-named teams will match the npcID stored when the team was saved.
- New behavior when a pet in a team is caged:
- The pet will no longer be substituted with another pet of the same species.
- Loading a team with a caged pet will report the pet missing (unless you have 'Don't warn about missing pets' enabled).
- When you re-learn the pet, it will automatically put the pet back into all of the affected teams.
- If you have two identical breed/level/rarity of pets in a team and one is caged, one may be substituted for a different breed/level/rarity if available.

- The queue behavior is simplified and made less aggressive:
- There is no longer an "unsorted" order of pets. When pets are sorted, that's their new order until you move them around or sort them again.
- The "keep all but top-most pet sorted" concept is gone, except for 'Keep current pet on new sort' in options.
- Sorting pets is a one-time action. You can drag pets around to any order after sorting.
- 'Full Sort' is gone and replaced with 'Active Sort'.

If anyone has been following the "future plans" section of the addon's description, there's a big change to it posted tonight.

I'll save you some scrolling:
Right now I'm working on Rematch 4.0 which will have a completely new UI. Goals with the revamp:
  • Less dense UI: Lists and buttons should not feel cramped.
  • Less cumbersome UI: There's too much collapse/stretch business that get in the way of the important functions of the addon. Loading a team should be a one-click effort.
  • Integration with the default pet journal: This is more of a replacement than integration, but looking up pets and creating teams will be done in the journal.
  • Update UI widgets: Larger buttons, more consistent style across elements, less gratuitous use of frames.
  • Trimming of superfluous extras: The leveling carousel will probably go, sorry! It was fun to make but it's too many frames to justify its infrequent use. The independent horizontal/verticle resizing will likely be going too.
  • Greater emphasis on saving for targets: A new panel will display your recent target from where you can either save a team for that target or load its saved team.
  • Large sections of the addon are being rewritten for a better foundation for future changes.
  • All teams, queues and settings will seamlessly work in the new addon.

This is a very large undertaking that may take a while, so any changes to the live version of Rematch in the meantime will likely be minor. But I'm still open to suggestions and of course please comment any and all bugs you encounter.
This is a great time for suggestions on the shape of the UI and how you'd like to use the addon.

Thanks! Let me know if there are any issues.

For the challenge posts, the plan is when you leave a battle for a non-wild npcID you haven't saved for yet, it will ask if you want to save a team and let you name it. This way you can save one team for the challenge post and auto load will work when you mouseover the post. Once the dust has settled from this update, that will be my next focus.

Being able to save multiple npcIDs under one team is also planned but I had that planned for a bit later with a UI rework. The concept needs fleshing out a bit more so I welcome any suggestions on it.

Coud you also make it possible to save the same team for different npcs? Like the garrison daily quest there is no npc that you can target so I always save it as 3 teams for each pet there that is running around

3.4.0 note for existing users

Today's update (3.4.0) is going to mess around with your team data.

If you'd like to backup your data before upgrading:
- Go to World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\YourAccountName\SavedVariables
- Within that folder, make a copy of Rematch.lua. All teams, queue and settings are stored in that one file.

I'm reasonably confident it will handle any exceptions just fine. But if you're the cautious type that doesn't like to run betas, then feel free to wait and see if any others are having issues before upgrading. (You won't lose out a whole lot by not updating--there are minimal new features in this update. Go to the changelog tab to see what's new.)

If anyone has any issues at all with your team data (or anything!), please post a comment.

I'm also open to suggestions on how to simplify/make more clear when teams save with an npcID or not. The "teams with a white name" vs "teams with a gold name" concept is not as intuitive as I'd like.

Yeah part of the rework will address Erris and Kura, who have different npcIDs (and different opponent teams).

Right now teams are only indexed by name. You can't have more than one team named Erris the Collector or Kura Thunderhoof.

The goal will be to also have teams indexed by npcID. This will allow, if you want, 5 teams named Erris the Collector (or Kura Thunderhoof) that will react with a specific team for each version of her. You could even name the teams "Erris' Critter Team" or anything else. For npcIDs, names won't be required to match the target.

The latter bit is also for challenge posts. The goal is that when you leave a non-wild battle with an npcID that doesn't have a team, it will prompt whether you want to save for that team. These teams will be indexed by npcID (each challenge post has a different npcID) and you can name them whatever you want: "Archimedes, Jahan & Samm" or "Bird Team Challenge Post" or "I miss you easy XP challenge post!"

And later down the road, it will allow having multiple teams as backup for specific npc's. So if you have two teams saved for Kura, and a pet is dead in the primary team, it can offer to load another team with an npcID stored. (Only one team can be indexed by npcID, but any number of teams can have a team indexed by name with an npcID attached.)

edit: Forgot to mention, for Erris and Kurra, if you're ok with just saving one team to fight any version of her (I use Lil' XT and Landro's Lil' XT and they almost always finish all of her pets before needing to swap in a third), you can delete the npcID stored in her team right now by loading the team and then re-saving it and unchecking 'Save NPC ID with team'. It will change the team from white to gold and then load for any version of Erris or Kura that's up that day.

I'm not shure what blizzards plans are for the future but the new Daily NPC that visits someones garrison dosen't have pets arround that I coud save my Team for - and she has different teams every day.
However looks like there are different NPC ids from her:

The current focus will be a rework of how teams are organized internally. It will hopefully be transparent to the user, but it will allow much greater flexibility in how teams are saved.

It's very strange your UI doesn't allow using revive or bandages if pets are full. I just used 5 bandages one after another from my bags and hit the revive button in the default journal immediately after. Maybe another addon was imparting that behavior?
Quite possibly, I did just redo all of my addons recently and I know I failed to get some that I had before. I must have had something stopping it. Thank you so much btw for your devotion to the addon world. I remember so many years ago all the wonderful addons from you! You are a rockstar in my books bud.

Wonderful addon btw, but, you can even when your pets are at full life use the Bandage Button and the Revive Pets button, the default UI doesn't allow this that i've seen so this can lead to a major waste since bandages are so very hard to come by (again imo). I just had a small mouse issue and used not only my revive cooldown but 5 of my 6 bandages

There's a minor bug in yesterday's update (3.3.1) that makes the sort by time not work well. (Specifically, if you add a pet to the queue, remove it, then add it back later, it will be going by the original time it was added.)

I have a fix ready to post but will wait until tonight, to make sure there are no other bugs that need immediate fixing.

Just a heads up about how the queue will likely behave in the next update, in case there's any cases I've missed or any functionality lost/needed:

Problem:
  • The queue is too aggressive in controlling what leveling slots are loaded. If you want to load a pet from deeper in the queue, especially alongside another leveling pet, you have to fight the queue to get it to stay. Specifically, you have to move it up higher in the queue.
  • The sort-all-but-top-of-queue concept isn't very intuitive. It's this way so you can sort and still choose a new active leveling pet.
  • I'd like to allow one-time sorts that sorts the queue and doesn't keep it sorted.
  • Adding new options with new rules will add complexity that goes against the goal of making its behavior easy to understand.

So the plan:
  • If you slot a pet from deeper in the queue (that is, you drag anything besides the current leveling pet to one of the 3 loaded slots), the queue will leave the slot alone. To mark its left-alone status, the gold border will be a silver border.
  • Saving a team, loading a team, reload or logout will change the silver borders to gold and return control of those slots to the queue.
  • Full Sort is renamed to Active Sort.
  • The concept of "all but the top-most pet is sorted" goes away. That is, what is presently a sort+no full sort goes away.
  • When Active Sort is off: sorting the queue is a one-time sort that rearranges the order of pets in the queue. You can then move pets around as much as you want. Rematch won't re-order pets as they gain xp. (The top-most pet can remain unchanged with the 'Keep current pet on new sort' option which is in options but not actually used right now.)
  • When Active Sort is on: sorting the queue is what is now a Full Sort. All pets are constantly sorted by the chosen sort method. The order can change as pets gain xp or get added to the queue but there can be no manual changes to the order of pets.
  • When dragging a pet to the leveling slot, choosing "Start Leveling" from a pet menu, or choosing a pet from the pet switcher button, Active Sort is disabled.

I feel this will make the behavior of the queue easier to understand. No more "sort all but top-most pet" business (but if you really want, there'll be an option for that--but the sort won't be constant). More freedom to drag pets around the queue and load them.

I won't rule out something to record fights and play it back as a suggestion to the user, but it would probably be a separate module. Rematch has a relatively well-defined scope (handling pets and teams) to prevent bloat. But a separate module is definitely doable.

For setting the note of a current team, the next update (probably this weekend or early next week) will have the ability to do it easily. Right now the only way to set a note without digging for the team is with the set note key binding.

It wasn't known, thanks for the report.

It seems to not have the spell available from the safari hat when that happened. (GetItemSpell(92738)) Was it on login? Was it the first time you've seen it?

Also does the safari hat (and treats) work otherwise? You're on a deDE client right? It's not directly related to this, but I was wondering if the spell of a treat is named the same as the buff on non-enUS clients.
92738 is the id of the item in your bags

when you use the item you will get a buff with the same name and the spell id: 158486

Not shure when the error poped up but I don't have the item on all my chars.
Currently it dosen't pop up on login.

Just had an idea, do you think it woud be possible to recorde the abbilitys you used for a saved team and then suggest to cast them in the sequence you used them?
Because thats what I currently do with the Notes, I just write down what I use.
