Simple Threat Meter  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 4.2.0
by: Amethyst [More]

Well, after 6 and a half years of WoW, I'm done. As of now, this mod won't be updated by me. If anyone else wants to take ownership of it and do any updates, they are welcome to do so.
DESIGN

Simple Threat Meter is a lightweight mod that displays your threat level on your current target as a bar. It's there when you want it to be and gone when you don't need it.

The bar displayed fills up from 0% to 100%. When it hits 100%, that's the point where you pull aggro off the tank.

This uses the BUILT-IN Blizzard threat values, so is guaranteed to be 100% correct, and is also based upon your distance to the target.

FEATURES

  • Displays threat in a single, visually pleasing, bar format.
  • Lightweight, uses Blizzard threat% values, rather than having to calculate all the time.
  • A number of configurable audio warning for when your threat level is too high.
  • Horizontal or Vertical bar modes, with various layout options for text.
  • Threat bar coloured based upon your current threat. Goes from green, through yellow to red.
  • Has many built in sounds & textures, to make sure it can fit in with how you like your user interface to look. Supports sharedmedia.
  • Highly configurable display conditions: solo/group/raid; with pet; in/out of combat and many more.
  • Can be set to automatically disable when you activate certain talent builds, so it switches itself off when you're tanking, but is on when you're in a dps role.

CONFIGURATION AND USAGE

To open the configuration panel, type the command: /stm or access through the standard add-ons configuration menu.

The configuration options themselves should be fairly clear.

The threat bars are also click-through when locked, meaning that they don't get in the way and stop you clicking on targets. You can also configure a transparency level, so you can see through the bars.

BACKGROUND

Omen does such a great job that I haven't seen many other threat meters developed, but with the complexity of some fights, I wanted something that doesn't take up much space on my screen and keeps me aware of my current threat level, but allows me to focus on the fight at hand.

So, Simple Threat Meter was born.

For reference, when using Omen or another threat meter, the values you need to be aware of:
110% - you will pull aggro from the tank if you are in melee range.
130% - you will pull aggro from the tank if you are further than melee.

With Simple Threat Meter, you just need to watch for 100%.

F.A.Q.

Q. Will you add support to show threat for multiple targets, such as offtanks or for my target's target for a healer?
A. No. That goes against the core design philosophy of this mod. It shows YOUR threat against what YOU are attacking.

Q. Can you make it so it goes up to 130%, as that's when I actually pull aggro.
A. Again, this is against the core design, that no matter whether you're at range or in melee, you only need to watch for the bar to go up to 100% to know where your danger level is.

ADDED : "Disable when solo" option.
ADDED : version tag to TOC. I'm using an alpha character appended to the
Blizzard release version.

================================================================================
Version 20400
================================================================================
Initial release version.

To open the configuration panel, type the command: /stm Additionally, if you
have the mod unlocked, you can access the options screen by right-clicking on
the drag bar.

The configuration options themselves should be fairly clear. Click on the
"Show test" button to see what the threat bars will look like in use, with the
options you have configured.

The threat bars only display in combat (you don't need them outside combat, so
why leave them there?) though you can show test bars using the config panel.

The threat bars are also click-through, meaning that they don't get in the way
and stop you clicking on targets.

Lastly, you can configure a transparency level, so you can see through the bars.

Pretty great, and simple

I haven't tested in combat yet... waiting for a LFD queue to pop. But I'd love to see the option for a screen flash when you hit your warning threshold, ala Omen.

Also, to input a path to an existing WoW sound rather than only have the choice of the .wav/ogg files in the mod directory.

And finally, a text only option, where a bar is not displayed but the percentage threat is. I'd really like to be able to park a percentage threat indicator next to my target unitframe and leave it at that, with all the warnings and conditions options still available

I play a shadow priest and it was happening often while raiding (25 man).
I won't try out the new version now because i made my own skin for basic threat bar whitch works fine and even shows more info e.g.for tanks

I used STM for a long time now but since cata it often shows up 180% aggro or 140% and the bar is coloured dark gray... can you maybe fix this?
Also i woud appreciate a better "test" funktion because if i enabled all the filters to hide the threat bar the test doesen't ignore them and so i can thest STM only in combat while in a group...

Anyways, just 2 simple questions.

1. How could I have the border show as the actual tooltip border and not the "fuzzy black" border.

2. How could I disable the text backdrop / shadow?

Just a couple things I'd like to be able to adjust to fit it in better with my new UI I'm working on.

Again, great addon. Keep up the great work and take care.
Heya, thanks for the feedback! There's no option to change the border without editing the code right now. It's on my list of things to do, but I can't promise when, as it's been on that list for a while now!

As for the backdrop/shadow, you should be able to just edit the colour and set the transparency to entirely transparent.

If you mean for bar textures, no it doesn't, as shared media doesn't support vertical bars.

I actually wrote the code for shared media to do so (it's in the code for the mod) and submitted it a couple of times for inclusion in Shared Media, but never got a response.

I'll check, but the sounds should only play when the threat meter is active, which can be set by various different conditions.

"Only when in an instance" is something I can add though.

Apart that ...
already adopted. Thanks
this please, and lower than 10 for width

For those that want to do it yourself, just go to line ~129 in core.lua and make the changes there.

Yup, however the design decision on that belongs to the Blizzard API development team.

The Lua API calls that return the player's current threat on the target return a percentage where 100% is the point where aggro is pulled.

There are API calls that return the exact threat value of the player, however to make that useful my mod would then need to determine the current tank, check their threat value, determine the current range to the target and then do the maths to calculate the percentage.
