GathererDB WoWHead  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 2.0.2013-06-15
by: Esamynn, dinesh, MentalPower, Nechckn, Norganna, norganna_uploader

WoWInterface is happy to announce that we have teamed up with Wowhead and the Norganna's AddOns Gatherer team to provide you with an exclusive downloadable Wowhead database for display in-game by Gatherer.

This addon will provide you with all the information currently in the Wowhead database showing all known locations of herbs, minerals and treasures. Now you can simply load up Gatherer, plug this database into it, and know what can be found in the zone you are in, without having to discover them yourself.

Wowhead will be providing regular dumps of their database to the Norganna team, who will then update the GathererDB Wowhead addon exclusively here on WoWInterface.

How it works
The import procedure is simple and painless. Once you have installed the AddOn and have reloaded the game, ensuring that both Gatherer and GathererDB_Wowhead are activated. When you finally log into the game, follow this procedure to import the new data into Gatherer:

  • Open Gatherer's configuration dialog.
  • Click on the red "Database" tab on the left-hand side of the dialog.
  • Click the import button in the main panel.

Make sure to add GathererDB-Wowhead to your favourites list here on WoWInterface and check back periodically to see if it's been updated, or get an email sent to you whenever they update it if you have those notifications turned on. Any time they update it, just re-download GathererDB-Wowhead and update your local copy.

Help improve the database
If you want to contribute your data back to Wowhead to continue expanding the database, please download and install the Wowhead client (available for both PC and Mac) and just follow the instructions on their site.

About Gatherer
Gatherer is an addon for herbalists, miners and treasure hunters in World of Warcraft. It's main purpose is to track the closest plants, deposits and treasure locations on your minimap.

The addon does not track like a tracking ability does, rather it "remembers" where you have found various items in the past. It does this whenever you gather (perform herbalism, mining, or opening) on an item, and records the specific map location in its history. From then on, whenever the item comes into range of being one of the closest 1-25 (configurable) items to your present location, it will pop up on the minimap.

When you view your World Map, you will also see the item locations clearly marked on each zone's map.

About Wowhead
Wowhead was created with one sole intent: to provide World of Warcraft players with an extensive database and tools to enhance their gaming experience. This website is our contribution to this wonderful game.

Our user community is a big part, if not the biggest part, of Wowhead. Almost all of our information comes from our users, through data uploads from the Wowhead Client, comments on database entries and screenshot submissions! The site also features forums, where users can ask questions, discuss important Warcraft-related topics, recommend and share favorite addons, and much more!

05 DEC 2008 Corrected issues in the script pertaining to Icecrown, node IDs, and a few more nodes included in the DB.

04 DEC 2008 Corrected Icecrown naming, items should now appear in that zone.

Themusez,

Each node is not active all the time, they are randomly respawned by an algorithm known only to Blizzard. Some work was done, in the past, to attempt to determine exactly how but nothing current, afaik.

That area is quite node-rich, so you may want to decrease the icon size, so you can more easily see the specifics.

Just as an aside: If you have been playing for a long time, you could still have some of the old node locations scattered about. Blizzard moved a bunch in roughly 2.0, so that could be a possible issue, too.

Not to say that the DB is completely perfect, but, especially for areas with a lot of data uploaded, it should be just about right. Be sure to run the Wowhead Updater, so that any new nodes you run into can be updated, as needed.

Happy Gatherering,

Nikk

A lot of the nodes say they are in, but they are usually Iron or Mithril (and there is usually an Iron or Mithril node placed right below it, it just does not show on the map because the Tin is above it).

Wrathscale,

Those are "special" nodes and intermittently replace "normal" nodes, ala the following:

Normal -> Special
Copper -> None
Tin -> Silver
Iron -> Gold
Mithril -> Truesilver
Thorium -> Rich Thorium
Fel Iron -> Khorium
Adamantite -> Rich Adamantite or Khorium
Cobalt -> Rich Cobalt
Saronite -> Rich Saronite or Titanium

Gatherer will change back and forth between the special and regular nodes, depending upon what was last grabbed from a specific spawn location.

Happy Gatherering,

Nikk

Karaste,

Not sure why they are not in, no one has mentioned it, so had no idea.

If you are not, now, please be sure to run the Wowhead Client, that provides data to Wowhead, so such things can be added. See http://www.wowhead.com/?client for more.

As for a "when", it really depends on time and knowing that there are things missing. Now that you note the area, will take a look, check the data to see if they are now included, and craft a new version, if so.

Likely about 3.3.3, if the data exists, would be a guess.

Happy Gatherering,

Nikk

I ask, as after importing the DB from Dec, I've come a fair number of nodes that weren't in the database. One area in particular that I can think of right off, is in NE Dragonblight. I've come across at least 8-10 nodes not in the database that spawn in the forested area between the revenant cave and the stairs up to Zul'Drak. Some out among the trees, and some along the base of the mtns. I've also come across them in other Northrend zones, as well as some here and there in older world areas (Azeroth/Outland).

Since they didn't exist in the data imported from this download, then I would assume that wowhead didn't know about them at the time of it's (this version of the db) creation. I assumed, that so long as new nodes were being found, that the db would continue to be updated. I'd noticed it before but hadn't said anything as I didn't need a newer version, since by gathering them I was adding to my database.

The issue only cropped up when I had a crash that ate my gather data file. I had to redownload and import this DB, and since it was still the Dec one I knew it wasn't completely up-to-date. Once I confirmed that by coming across unrecorded nodes again in the same areas I'd noticed the deficit before, I decided to ask when the next version might be coming.

Seeing as how the nodes have not been moved in quite some time, likely not for a while.

Is there some reason why you ask?

Re: i got a question

Viper,

No idea, really. It has been updated since 3.3.x came out, so it is "up to date".

Now, if you are talking about Gatherer itself, the simple reason is that there has been nothing done, yet, to warrant an update. Once it is, we will put out a new version, with a changed TOC number. Simply place a check mark in the "Load Out of Date" box in the main WoW AddOns Control Panel.

Happy Gatherering,

Nikk

Aalfac00,

The current version works with WoW 3.3 and Gatherer 3.1.3.
