BarKeep

** Now with support of bars that only appear on mouseover via the optional BarKeep_BarFader add-on. BarKeep_BarFader can be found in the 'Optional Files' tab. **

Here are the main features:

  • All the main action buttons can be configured to have from 1-12 buttons.
  • All the main action bars can be reconfigured to have up to 12 rows, so you can have 6 buttons x 2 rows, 3 buttons by 4 rows etc. This is done still using the Blizzard button code for compatibility.
  • All the main action bars can be scaled independently of one another.
  • Stance bar, possess bar, and pet bar can all be relocated to where the user wants them to be.
  • All bars can be hidden if you want, some using the Blizzard options from the interface menu, others using BarKeep.
  • The options are configured by a GUI accessed from /barkeep or /bk.
  • It uses an event / hook based structure for minimal CPU usage.
I want to say thanks to the previous developers of this CleanBar & CleanBarAdvanced since BarKeep would not be possible without their initial help.

So why use BarKeep?

It enables complete rearrangement and scaling of the Blizzard bars and so has some advantages over the traditional bar mod:
  1. It uses Blizzards buttons (and button code). So pretty much it's always compatible if Blizzard make any changes.
  2. Its really light in use - doesn't use a lot of memory and CPU cycles.
  3. It seems pretty stable as a result of the above.
  4. It'll work with cooldown, ranged mods that work with Blizzard buttons and also ButtonFacade with another small mod.
Commands:

/barkeep - show the config screen.
/bk - show the config screen.

FAQ:
  • I can't see all the bars when I first use the addon. All I see are the '+'s that enable the bar placement? - Use the Blizzard 'Action Bars' tab in the interface menu to set which bars are active or not, just as you would the Blizzard bars.
  • How do I set the Key Bindings? - Use the Blizzard Key Bindings interface to set the bindings for all the bars.
  • How do I lock the actions on the bars? - Use the Blizzard 'Action Bars' tab in the interface menu to lock the Blizzard bars.
  • How do I permanently show the empty buttons? - Use the Blizzard 'Action Bars' tab in the interface menu to show the empty button grid.
Future Plans:
  • Bug fixes once identified.
  • A BarKeep_XP optional module to manage the XP bar.
  • A reconfiguration of the mod to easily allow for additional layout types for the bars. This should be fairly easy to do, it'll just require a some coding in BarKeep.lua and a change to the configuration screen, but could take some time as I'll make the changes slowly and test carefully.

Known Issues:
  • None.

That empty bar could be the shapeshifter bar, castbar or the pet bar. But generally locking the bars will make them all disappear until needed.

On other news: I have a update coming (currently being tested) that cleans up a lot of coding from the original mod and paves the way for setting out the bars in different sized rows (e.g. 6 buttons x 2 rows, 4 buttons x 3 rows etc.). Once I figure the best way to add this option to the menu structure, I'll code it in.

Update on next version

Well the initial coding for the next major release is pretty much complete ... I'll just run this on one of my characters for a few days to ensure its as stable as I can.

This is a major update - almost the whole mod has been recoded with the following main changes:

-- All the main action bars (i.e. the Main, Lower Left and Lower Right) can be reconfigured to have up to 12 rows, so you can have 6 buttons x 2 rows, 3 buttons by 4 rows etc. This is done still using the Blizzard button code for compatibility.
-- All the main bars can be scaled independently of one another.
-- The cast bar, and all other bars can be hidden if you want.
-- The menu was completely reworked to accomodate the new options and the commands updated for simplicity.

It should be in-the-wild in a week or so.

Try this:
http://aceaddons.curse.com/Blizz_ButtonFacade.html

Let me know if this works. If not I'll try to modify this add-on so that it does.

A quick update on future plans:
  • Have it tested for WotLK and have it ready for that transition.
Once I get all that done then that'll be it for the immediate future.

I had BarKeep checked for WotLK beta - about the only issue noticed so far is that for WotLK there are a couple of buttons in the Main Menu that need to be allowed for (hidden, shown and placed correctly etc.). These buttons relate to the new non-combat pet and mount interfaces.

So I'll have a new version that's WotLK compatible (probably dry coded) up in the next week for testing and preparation for patch 3.0.

Question experience bar lost

Hi, I have 2 lvl 70's and after trying a few other UI mods have just downloaded this great addon. (I am really hoping you can keep it going for wotlk!) I love it, so easy to set up and clears a load of space - my only question is that my xp bar has disappeared on my lvl 37 - Can I get it back?

Cheers

BarKeep 30000.1 ready for patch

Quick update: I now have created a version of BarKeep for WoW 3.0. I added the two new buttons to the MainMenu Bar and so BarKeep should be ready to go for the 3.0.2 patch.

It'll be made available once I can confirm that its working correctly after the patch is out.

On the XP bar: Currently BarKeep hides the XP bar by design as a number of 3rd party unit frames etc. all offer replacements. Let me ponder the issue and see what I can come up with - perhaps as an optional add-in.

Thumbs up BarKeep 30000.0.1 posted

Works with patch 3.0.2 very well. There are a couple of minor inconsistencies with the text on the configuration frame, the movement button postion of the mainmenubar and the bag bar, but these'll be worked out in the next day or so in 30000.0.2.

The operation of the mod works the same as in 2.4.

Re: BarKeep 30000.0.1 posted

When Wow starts up, only the main bar, bag bar and menu bar seem to be active..the rest are just "+" signs and seem to do nothing. I disabled and reenabled the whole mod - that made the pet and possess bars show up as white areas. I've tried dropping spells onto the space where buttons might logically be (not being able to see them doesn't help). I've tried messing with the "+"'s every way I can imagine and nothing changes. Help?

Enable the other bars in the Blizzard 'Action Bars' tab of the interface menu. I should proably be more clear on this, but for enabling the bars, locking, showing grid the whole time and setting keys use the default UI options.

This is one of the strengths of this add-on. If there is any issue with BarKeep due to a patch etc. you can just disable the add-on and the Blizzard bars will work immediately (no panics before raids and PvP).

Well BarKeep removes it by design to have the buttons be the only focus. On my characters I use PitBull which has a XP bar so thats how I manage XP.

However ... I went and searched out a couple of XP bar mods that offer more than the original bar did:
http://www.wowinterface.com/download...eXPeritia.html
http://www.wowinterface.com/download...7-BarMath.html

These could be worth a check out if you'd like a fully featured XP bar as I haven't decided whether to add one into BarKeep or not.

Thanks. Expertia sounds good, maybe if you do add it something like that, so it doesnt mess up the screen, just comes on for like 10 seconds in a corner showing you XP details.

Just a quick heads up,

I do not know if its on my end or not, but i have taken care to delete all my usual files and folders when a option might be wonky.

For some reason BarKeep is showing my XP bar... and I can not get it to shut off lol

also when i use the Button Facade mod to skin the bars it wont skin the main action bar but skins the rest of the bars but the skinning disappears if I reload the ui or log out.
