Mapster  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.11.0
by: Nevcairiel [More]

Mapster is a very simple world map enhacement addon, which was designed to work in conjunction with all other map addons out there. The idea to create Mapster originated from pure lack of a simplistic addon that only modifies the world map, without adding a full scale feature set.

Features

  • Map Style (Scale & Alpha)
  • Coordinates
  • Fog of War removal
  • Enhancement of the raid/party group icons

You can access the Mapster configuration menu through the new button on the world map, as shown in the screenshot.
All features (except the style) can be turned off individually if you do not need/want them.

If you're looking for a replacement to Cartographer, i also recommend the following addons:

Mapster
1.11.0 (2023-11-28)
Full Changelog Previous Releases
  • Add 10.2 FogClear data
  • Disable multi-version packages
  • Remove Classic support
Maintaining Classic support has become a huge burden for this mod, since
it is designed to modify the Blizzard UI, and the UI diverges even
further between Retail and the different Classic variants with every
    update.
Hence, I rather focus my efforts on Retail, and other mods.

I'm curious..why is it necessary for a Map Addon to be able to see the direction my arrow is turning with the map open..why won't the default map do it :-/

When setting the focus on a mob i get the follow error (also when I unset the focus):

==========================================================
Mapster has been blocked from an action only available to the Blizzard UI.
You can disable this addon and reload the UI. (Disable or Ignore)

Player 'arrow' too small!

Just to let you know I think this is a great addon. The only thing I think it is missing (unless I just can't find it) is an option to change the size of the player's arrow/icon on the map. This is only an issue, because I have my map set to 75% size. This results in a player arrow/icon that is nearly impossible to see.

Once again, thanks for the great addon.

With a few extra downloads (which is totally fine) Mapster is getting to be a solid replacement for Carto. I recognize the cool factor of C3, but it's not what I want/need.

On to the request - Two of the features I really miss from Cartographer are the integration with ToFu (to mark flightpaths automatically) and putting handy icon notes for profession/class trainers.

Anything out there that's a suitable replacement?

Notes?

... Sorry, HandyNotes as linked below...

With the new and old versions of Cartographer in doubt... I am looking for a replacement. I know that I can use GatherMate for professions, but is there a compatible mod for making notes on the map?

Thanks.

It was moved with Mapster 1.05.

[Update: And the moved button reverted to it's original location in a later dev SVN update at wowace after v1.05 was released. So.. I don't know if it will stay moved in the next release or not.]

Here's another vote for modifying scaling and opacity with modified mouse scrolls. Other than that, thanks so much for a good minimalistic map! With Mapster + Cromulent + Gatherer, I get everything I used Cart2 for, but liter!

Great replacement for Cartographer. Only one minor (well, I think it would be a minor adjustment) is the 'mapster' button on the tip right. It is exactly where Questhelper has their button. Any chance it can be moved easily?

You can use Cromulent for that. It works pretty good in combination with Mapster.

i just thought of 2 (kinda 3) minor things to make this perfect that i kinda miss from old cart.

being able to adjust the opacity and scale using the scrollwheel+ shift or alt.

i think old cart had shift+scrollwheel up/down for scaling, and alt for the opacity. that would be great to have in mapster.

and the other thing i noticed it doens't have is the level ranges of zones when looking at the world map.

i used to use that often as well. like "ok, what lvl range is desolace, 30-35? ok. i can lvl there then. "

those 2 things. would make this perfect! i hope it's not hard to do. either way. i'm sticking with this. ty again so much.

searching for a cart replacement. while pondering on what exactly were the most important things from cart that i valued the most, i got to searching, only to find that this addon listed EVERYTHING I CARE FOR in cart as it's main features. O_o

metamap had too much stuff i already have.

wow. i don't need dungeons or dungeon loot (atlas and atlasloot are kings in that category) don't need quests, (atlasquest wins for me too). don't need something to list nodes/mines (gatherer ftw) and i don't need a minimap coord. (using suki's though i might need new one for changes in SW and such)

this is great that someone also wanted a simple map addon with these core features. thx for making this. adding it to favs.

my one and only concern is. if i combine tomtom with this to help me replace suki cause suki's isn't updated, can tomtom add the waypoints unto the main map itself? that's all i need. thx

edit: when i first read about tomtom i thought it only did waypoints to minimap. i think it does to world map so that answers my question. woot! i'm set. thx so much. keep it up. ^^

Instance Maps

Love Mapster because it's so much like the old Cartographer but wondering about instance maps. I noticed another user here placed a link for addons that will add some features but unfortunately the one called InstanceMaps doesn't seem work at the moment. Is there any plan to add instance maps to Mapster or perhaps another addon that might work with Mapster?
