Admonition

Version: 1.1a
by: luladin [More]

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE LATEST VERSION, EACH NEW VERSION CONTAINS CRITICAL BUG FIXES!!!

ad·mo·ni·tion
   /ˌædməˈnɪʃən/ [ad-muh-nish-uhn]
–noun
1.
an act of admonishing.
2.
counsel, advice, or caution.
3.
a gentle reproof.

Admonition is an addon that monitors Public Channels and Battleground chat for people swearing and automatically reports them and places them on your ignore list.

The addon has several default triggers included, but you may add more by opening the Admonition.lua file and adding your own, it is pretty self explanitory.

DUE TO COMPLAINTS, THIS ADDON NO LONGER RESPONDS TO THE USER!

If you wish to maintain the old functionality, I will not be responsible if you are suspended/banned/silenced from speaking in game. Nor will I update the addons with the old functionality.

There are other versions of this addon, I do not recommend that you use them, as they may get you silenced in a public channel.

v1.0c - Responds to the user in the channel they swore with a response.
v1.0d - Responds to the user in whisper.

This addon is a heavily modified version of weasel's Reported! Addon, all credit for the framework goes to weasel. You may view his addon here.
http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info8283-Reportedbyweasel.html

Please use responsibly.

1.1a
-Updated to Latest Reported! (Cleaner Code, took out useless functions.)
-NO LONGER ANTAGONIZES THE USER BY RESPONDING!
-Plays a sound upon hearing a user.
-Automatically reports a profane user.
-Automatically places profane user on ignore list.
TODO: Switch to a DB Based Ignore list as to not fill up WoW Ignore list within 5 minutes of loading addon.

1.00d
-Changed response to whisper
-Reenabled LFG/Guild Recruitment/Anal responses, to whisper as well
-NOTE: All the responses share a cooldown
-Currently debugging the report feature, to be included in a future release

1.00c
-Third Release
-Added new triggers.
-Added new Swear Responses
-TODO: Take out LFG/Anal/Guild Recruit triggers and change their functionality to more useful stuff, like complimenting alternative swears, IE Dang/Crap/Shoot

1.00b
-Second Release
-Cleaned up Client Side Responses, they now notify the user that they are disabled.
-Added more triggers.

1.00a
-First Release
-Functional.

TODO:
Add dialogue box with the options Respond, Report, Ignore. Respond will do and auto reply, report will open a GM ticket with a copy and timestamp of what the vulgar person stated, ignore will place the user on your ignore list.
Optional Files (0)

First, the addon author can't really be considered more of a "dick" than the vulgar people in the trade channel. A bus stop preacher is no more annoying than a bus stop rapper. Players can spend their playtime the way they want, within reason. If I want to correct grammar in the trade channels, that's as legitimate as world PvP or raids or pet collecting or [Anal] jokes. Fighting in trade is no different than fighting in Wintergrasp or griefing lowbies in Goldshire.

Now, where I part ways with the addon author is this... in order for something to be offensive or vulgar... it really has to be seen or observed. The user has to experience the moment, then decide how he or she felt about it. Using this addon, however, it appears you can walk away from your screen and your computer will still react to "vulgar" statements that the user did not actually see or experience.

In other words, if a penis shaped tree falls in the forest and nobody sees it... is it vulgar? No... but it is wood

I think a better addon would be this... Players who use your defined "bad" words get auto-ignored. Nothing happens to a banned player unless they try to whisper you directly. Then the addon sends a message back saying that they're being ignored due to language in the public channels. This seems better for two reasons... it's only reactionary to people on your list... and it might make a player think twice about ranting in trade since they could miss out on getting help from another player.

Then again, if I got a message saying I was being ignored for using the word "huntard" I'd probably be okay with that

So I'm not against the spirit of this addon (fighting for your beliefs or standards) but the fact that it's so automated really serves to undermine it's validity, since you can't be offended by something you didn't see. All in all, going with the standard language filter seems like a much better idea.
This is actually on the TODO list. Instead of auto responding, it will open a small window with the following options: Respond, Report, Ignore. You may choose whichever options you would like to do, all three if it suits you.

Edit:
@deke913 - As a bit of a joke, I added Runescape in as a trigger word, all in fun though.

Seems to me, this mod would be considered harassment: go, go, irony.

I support this addon and hope it spams every person here who doesnt like it, to the point that they quit wow and are reduced to playing runescape.

/ignore is effective as well so if you don't approve of the spam messages use that to prevent this mod from pointing out your immaturity.

As we all know full well, only intelligent, well educated, mature individuals curse anyway amirite.

If you feel the need to curse at someone, then curse your parents for not busting your butt more while you were still young enough to benefit from it.

(flames are welcome since I'm testing a new version of my asbestos undies!)

I'm pretty sure if I got a whisper from someone using this addon I would immediately report them for spamming. The game has a maturity filter, use that. This is no different from those church guys who stand at bus stops and preach how everyone is going to hell. Don't make dick addons.

I don't think this is a 'be a dick' addon, I think it is a 'spam generating waste of time' addon.

The people that it targets are not going to care one little bit about an automated reproach...or even a personal censure administered to their VR face.

This will have three effects:

1) Generate even more spam in the channels.
2) Encourage the idiots that are vulgar twits to be more vulgar.
3) Irritate the other people on channel who are ignoring the vulgar twits -- generally the best way to deal with them since they are probably trying to garner attention.

So unless Blizzard doesn't find swearing vulgar, obscene or "otherwise objectionable" then it is against the ToS.
ToS be damned, this takes the cake as the biggest "I'm a dick" addon I've seen.

This is what the language filters for. Either ignore it, like most adults do (yes, I realise that there are children playing, but thats why the game is A: Rated Teen, and B: The ESRB doesn't rate online interaction between users and are advised that use of the product is at their own risk), or turn the filter on.
