Duality

Version: 0.1
by: niscandia [More]

Duality is designed to split the viewable area of World of Warcraft into 2 to 4 sections.

For most people this is unneeded, but those running multiple monitors and or very wide screen monitors may find this useful.

Be warned this is still alpha quality, and not all items have customizations, and some need to be hand edited.

------------------------------------------
Please Note: Duality does not enable WoW to be played on Multiple screens, that is setup outside of World of Warcraft. Duality only Partitions the screens into more usable areas.
------------------------------------------

Primary Changes:
Rendered view is changed to be 1/2 of the total width
- can be changed up to 4 by editing the saved vars.
Unrendered areas are given a texture
- first unrendered area can have its textured chagned in options
XP & Rep bars added to the first unrendered window
Minimap Icons can be handled or unhandled by Duality
- Handling minimap icons cause them to flow across the top and
bottom of the first unrendered area
UIParent is resized to help most mods appear where they normaly would
- this does cause a few problems with certain mods and is being
worked on
3 chat windows are handled into area above the action bars

Mods that are controled by Duality:
Cartogrpher is actively taken control of
- This replaces the world map that is normaly in place on Duality

Duality is designed to allow other mods to finish the customization, and as such I would suggest at least, items in () are ones I use:
An Action Bar Mod (Bartender3)
A Buff mod (ElkBuffBars)
A Bag Manager (OneBag)
A Tooltip Mover (CowTip)

Known Problems:
Alt Tabbing in Windows XP (and possibly Vista) causes graphical glitches
in the side panels
Certain Mods will "Jump" when moved as they rely upon UIParent to be
fullscreen, and not part of the screen

carbonite and other stuff

hi, i use cabonite, and i've been trying to get this mod to work with it, so that my cabonite will be in a certain place but every time i log out and log back in, it goes back to a default location, see, i want it to be on the side where the map is, but it keeps going to the playable side. the same for the quest tracker for carbonite.

also, i was hoping to be able to hide the options, and make it so i don't have the wow default map popping up all the time. i use bartender, chinchilla, and x-perl as main addons, they work fine with this, i also put my xperl raid frames over in the non-playable area, and i'm really wanting to put my other unit frames over there too, but i can't until the options can be hidden, since the unit frames keep falling behind the options.also, i want to hide the xp and rep bars because i use x-perl to display those.

WoTLK

From how everything is looking, Duality is WoTLK compatible.
It seems to be just as stable with the upcoming expansion as it is right now.

Though I did see some code that might cause some problems, but as of yet it hasn't.... I'll be going over that section to make sure.

And so far the bug list is including:

Combat Chat frame doesn't display information with a brand new charater.
This is because the Chat frame is being moved while docked and should be fixed next revision. This can be take care of by moving the combat frame (which will cause it to jump back into a docked position) then moving it a second time.
Chat Frames change size
This almost seems to be a blizzard limiation where if the main chat window has not been resized by a person it will want to return to the default size. The fix is to unlock the window and resize it. After this Duality will be able to keep the corret chat window size. -- not sure on when a fix can be done
Reputation Bar on Secondary Monitor is off
The reputation bar for some reason is not calculating how full it should be. The numbers displayed are correct, but the amount filled is off at times. I'll be looking into fixing this, though not sure what is wrong at this time.
Spell/Ability Book will open on the Primary Window while in combat.
The Spell/Ability Information pane will open on the primary window durning combat because of its secured status. I need to secure the functions in handling it.

Though techinaly it shouldn't be too hard... but I anticipate some of the same UI problems that come up when you have the UIFrame and WorldFrame on the right, instead of the left.

Mainly alot of plugins start "Jumping" so to speak. But I'll take a look at the code and it shouldn't be too difficult to add in.
Yeah, that' can't be helped, but I tried getting it to work with a view port addon and it was just way to frustrating for me. This worked great but I instinctively go up to reach the top frame, not to the right. >.>

Had some interesting issues with carbonite quest's map addon, but we'll see how that works out if a vertical version is a possibility. (I didn't try to trouble shoot it too much seeing as it was practically unplayable for me. )

Thanks for the hard work you've put into this addon.

Currently I have my monitors set up top and bottom with the playable area being in the bottom.... so yeah. It's be much appreciated if that's possible.

Duality doesn't change the settings for WoW to run on Dual Monitors, you will have to make WoW do that before using Duality. Duality only partitions the screens after WoW has been setup for Dual Monitor usage.

So in order for Duality to work, you'll need to enable WoW first to run on Dual Monitors. This is easily done on Windows XP, by enabling Horizontal Spanning, and having the two seperate displays behave as one. Basicly in the windows display panel you'll have a 2560x1024 instead of 2 1280x1024 screens.

If your using Vista (such as I am) it takes a lot more effort and playing around with custom resolutions and a program to maximize WoW across two monitors (ultramon seems to be the one most use)
