Up to date for patch 9.0.2

WoW Classic version available here: Clean Icons - Thin - Classic

This is an updated version of Clean Icons - Thin by suicidalkatt. The original hasn't really been kept up to date.

I have gone through and processed every single icon added to the live game since 7.2.5, and made sure they look good and follow the original style. I had already released a fan update for 7.3.2 in the comment section, but since there still hasn't been an official update I decided to release future versions here instead where it'll be easier to maintain.

I will be releasing updates for future patches here, including alpha/beta/PTR versions. I have a pretty good process of going through new icons now so future updates should be pretty speedy!

How to Install

Extract all files and move them into your Interface folder inside your WoW installation (not the AddOns folder!)

Windows

If you have installed the game in the default location, you should be able to find your Interface folder here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\_retail_\Interface

Your Interface folder should then look something like this:

macOS

If you have installed the game in the default location, you should be able to find your Interface folder here:
/Applications/World of Warcraft/_retail_/Interface

Your Interface folder should then look something like this:

How to Uninstall

To restore your icons back to default, simply delete the files you added (the folder ICONS as well as four .blp files) in the Interface folder.

Known Issue: Missing Icons

All icons that used to be encrypted are currently unable to be replaced. We used to be able to replace these encrypted icons if we knew the file names, but since patch 8.2.5, most of them have remained flagged.

This includes the icons for The Dreadwake, Transmorpher Beacon, Hogrus, Meat Wagon, Vulpine Familiar and the Sylverian Dreamer, among others. Pretty much all recent promotion/store related items are affected.

There is nothing we can do about this. Blizzard needs to flag the icons properly.

Credits

Icons added prior to patch 7.2.5 were processed by suicidalkatt. Everything since then has been processed me. Blizzard owns the original artwork.

Edit: Had an initial problem with the naming being off by 1, but fixed it by redownloading. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

I would be willing to make some more, but would need to know what the process is to convert. I've tried myself but they keep showing up green. I've been using a few different BLP converters as well as different options, but for some reason it never works.

Any tips?

UPDATE:
The icons that I was editing were being used for macros, and while loading other icons that I haven't touched since I used this pack, they are showing up as green as well, but only when I set the macro; while browsing for the icon it loads just fine, but as soon as I apply it to a button it goes green.

Try it out yourself using 70_inscription_deck_dominion.blp

Not sure what the reason for this issue is, but thought I would mention it.

UPDATE2:
It worked when I modified Ability_Xaril_MasterPoisoner_Blue.blp without any issue.
Any idea about why some others don't work? Are they newer or unusable for some reason(bfa icons?).

Get the BLP format plugin for Photoshop. Then you can just open and save them as BLP directly. No conversion needed. Choose DTX5 Compression with 8-Bit Alpha when saving.

Some more tips:
  • A lot of icons are like 90% transparent. if you're making an action for batch conversion make sure it includes flattening the images so it works on all of them.
  • Some images in the ICONS folder are not icons. For some reason Blizzard has put a bunch of textures for various things there too. Don't blindly convert everything or you might mess up some random weapon model.
  • If you want to get rid of the excess borders to apply your own, a good rule is to resize the icon to 110% of its original size. Then you can crop off 2 pixels on each side and there will be no border stuff left. This is what most addons (like Masque) do in game as well, and what I've done (I literally just flatten, resize to 110%, and apply a 2px black inset border).
  • To figure out which icons are new, you'll probably need some sort of folder comparison software. I use Beyond Compare.
  • Some icons are not extracted by the in-game console tool. Seems to be limited to icons that used to be encrypted, like all the recent store mounts as well as the Blizzcon 2017 mounts and the BfA preorder icons. I got the textures from Wowhead for those, but you still need to figure out the file names. I don't have them at the top off my head here and they were really annoying to figure out but I can help you out if you get this far later on. Just drop me a message.

DONT UNDERSTAND PLS HALP

First of all I don't speak that much English
Ima try my best
well, following the simple instructions I installed this on Interface Folder(not in addons)as exactly in the picture even with the 4 .blp files
And still without understanding why isn't this working FINE, even tried removing all my addons and a couple of textures like raid frames, etc. just leaving empty the AddOns Folder and Interface Folder empty too.
this is how it looks with the ICONS TEXTURES LOOK AT THE BORDERS PLS

And this one is without the ICONS TEXTURES NOTHING OF NOTHING JUST BLIZZARD

It looks kinda of diferent if you pay attention on the ''borders'' and that's seems to be the problem the BORDERS something like hightlight small thing but its appreciable
aswell I'm not getting the icons texture bcus I think the ''borders''
well this is my case hope I get some help

Some more tips:...
Just wanted to say thanks for the tips and suggestion to look into BCompare which I'll be checking out here soon.... I'm tempted to just add my WoW folder to a git repo so I can track the new stuff easier in the future (at least for me since I use Git daily already).

Luckily I was able to get my custom icons working and really was an issue of using icons that were for BfA (which just happened to be some of the ones towards the top of the list when sorted alphabetically).

Thanks again for the tips and keeping these updated!

Exclamation Non-Icons in Collection

You may wish to look at the file sizes of BLPs in this collection. If you do, you'll see that everything larger than 7kbs is not an icon, but a texture.

For example:
Cape_DraenorCraftedCaster_D_01black.blp is that cape's texture and not its icon.

While I don't think having these textures in the Icons folder will adversely affect anyone's game, they are a waste of space and time (processing, uploading, downloading, packing, unpacking).

Otherwise, thanks for your hard work upkeeping this project. These aging icons deserve alot of love.

Yeah, I'm aware of this. I'm keeping them until we get a stable BfA build since it's such a hassle to filter them out. Note that none of these textures are modified, and in-game they do not take up any extra resources. It's just a few MB extra space in total.
