Find upgrades, do more damage, win.

Pawn helps you find upgrades for your gear and tell which of two items is better for your spec. Start with built-in advice from Ask Mr. Robot, or customize Pawn's stat weights to have it suggest items based on your favorite class guide or simulator. Pawn can help you decide whether it's better to use the cloak with 500 mastery or the one with 450 crit—whether you're just starting out, or you're an advanced player who plans out gear upgrades and regularly simulates and evaluates performance.

Getting started

If you're new to Pawn, don't worry—Pawn will automatically set itself up to give you advice based on math done by the experts at Ask Mr. Robot (or, on Classic, HawsJon). Just watch for Pawn's green arrows. If you decide you want to go further, there are a lot of ways that you can customize Pawn, by tracking multiple specs at once, importing custom stat weights, and more.

Language support

Pawn now works with all languages on both live/retail and Classic. It's possible that you might run into stats that Pawn doesn't recognize from time to time when playing on non-English clients—if you think that Pawn's not calculating something right, put an item into the Compare tab and see if it lists all of the stats there. If something's missing, let me know which item and which language, and I should be able to get it fixed!

Staying in touch

Become a fan of Vger on Facebook and get updates of new versions and stuff like that. You can also leave questions or comments there if you don't have an account on this site. (I typically respond to questions much more quickly on Facebook or Curse.)

Found a bug?

If you think you might have found a bug, just leave a comment here. In addition to a description of the problem, please make sure to include: (1) the language that you use Pawn and WoW in, (2) whether it's live/retail or Classic, (3) the specific items that don't work as expected, and (4) your class and spec if you're using the built-in (not custom) stat weights. Screenshots are usually very helpful as well.

Incompatible with...

Pawn will not work with Titan Panel Artifact Power or Combat Numbers Separator. Those addons change item tooltips and will cause Pawn to give bad advice. It's also been reported that using Pawn with TradeSkillMaster can cause the game to crash or hang.

I'm going to try to put together a special diagnostic version of Pawn that should help me track down why the game is crashing for some people. I hope to have this ready soon. In the meantime, I still encourage you to send crash reports to Blizzard so they can find and fix their bug. A crashing bug is not directly a bug in a mod, but I might be able to work around the crash.

After 3 days for getting wow crashing on me cos of a addon i found what addon it was, I use a lot of addons, and i slowly when into my list of addons i added my self from the arkive UI, and i found that Pawn is crashing me, And i dont mean errors :P I have PM a full list to the maker, and lets see what happens :P now i need to start working out by hand if a item is better or not anyways... I send VgerAN my addon list, (all ~190 addons)

Actually, there is (or at least was) one. SmartFitter did quite a decent job there (http://forums.wowace.com/showthread.php?t=10862) and those are the two features I miss most:

"Get best Set & Equip" function, so you can easily add your 'configuration' to ClosetGnome, Outfitter, whatever. Not needed but definitely nice.
"I do not want more than xyz on that stat"/"I need at least xyz on that stat" Spell hit is very valuable to me, but why should I stack it past the hit cap? Similar: I absolutely *need* to be crit immune, give me at least 540 defense skill (ok, you would have to get the rating that is required, but you get what I mean)!

This version of Pawn is for English only. There are other localized versions that are based on mine and are updated with varying frequency that you can find; I don't know of any hosted here, but Curse and WoWUI.IncGamers have a couple.

Sorry to hear that; a few other people have reported the same issue. Right now there's not much I can do about it, I'm afraid; game crashes are Blizzard's bugs. Please always send crash reports so that they can fix them.

Base armor is armor that gets your bonus, such as leather and cloth. Bonus armor is stuff on trinkets that doesn't get a bonus multiplier. As such, your base armor value should be considerably higher than the bonus armor value, and you shouldn't assign a value to the regular "Armor" stat at all. If you have trouble remembering, double-checking the description of each of the three armor stats should help to clarify things.

The stat that you care about now instead of feral attack power is "DPS" under "Weapon stats." The value you probably want is 14x whatever you assigned to feral attack power in the past.

Values that you've assigned to the "feral attack power" stat are now meaningless, as such a thing technically no longer exists as an item stat.

It depends on how much work you want to put into it. GearDps appears to not be configurable, so you just install it and you're done. Pawn is built with customization in mind. You can either tweak stat values to your heart's content, or use an item valuation system ("scale") that someone else has carefully crafted, from Elitist Jerks, the WoW forums, or elsewhere. Which one is "better" depends on whether you want something that you can work with to become more and more accurate, or something you want to just "set and forget" even if it isn't as accurate.
