NeedToKnow: Simple, effective timer bars

Track specific buffs, debuffs, and cooldowns with bars that always appear in the same place in the same color. NeedToKnow is great for short buffs and debuffs you use a lot. For example, a rogue could show bars for Slice and Dice, Rupture, and Garrote.

  • Easy to set up
  • Works with spells, abilities, items, totems, procs, and internal cooldowns
  • Track more than one spell or ability with one bar
  • Works with Retail and Classic WoW

Other features
  • Save setups for different specializations
  • Track by name or spell ID
  • Show cast time indicator to see when to refresh buffs and debuffs before they finish
  • Make bars deplete at same rate to see which will finish first
  • Blink bars when buff or debuff missing
  • Track buffs on raid members without having to focus them

Instructions

General options are available in the Blizzard interface options menu. You can type "/needtoknow" or "/ntk" to lock/unlock the addon. To configure individual bars, right click them while unlocked. Bars work while locked. If you only see full bars that aren't changing in response to anything, they are unlocked! Just type /ntk to lock them and get them working for you.

You can enable more groups of bars by going into the Interface settings off the main menu and choosing the AddOns tab.

When entering your settings, be careful with your spelling and capitalization. Also remember that buffs and debuffs sometimes have different names than the items and abilities that apply them. The Death Knight ability Icy Touch, for example, applies a DoT called Frost Fever.

On each bar you can enter in multiple buffs/debuffs deliminated by commas. They are prioritized according to order.
i.e. "Rake, Lacerate" - If both are applied, will display Rake until it expires and then it will track Lacerate
i.e "Curse of Recklessness, Curse of Exhaustion, Curse of Shadows" - Good way to track single instance curses

If you wish to use SpellID, make sure you are using the correct one!

FAQ

Why won't NeedToKnow work for me? I set it up but the bars just sit there at full, not moving or tracking anything.
The bars only time things when the addon is locked. Type "/needtoknow" or "/ntk" to lock/unlock the addon. You can also use the buttons in the AddOns tab of the Blizzard Interface Options menu.
Why won't NeedToKnow track this buff/debuff? It works for other things.
Check your spelling and capitalization. Also remember that buffs and debuffs sometimes have different names than the items and abilities that apply them. The Death Knight ability Icy Touch, for example, applies a DoT called Frost Fever. If you're using a SpellID, make sure you have the correct one.
How do I track multiple buffs or debuffs on a single bar?
Enter the name of each buff/debuff separated by commas. They are prioritized according to order. For example, "Rake, Lacerate" will display Rake until it expires and then it will track Lacerate. "Curse of Recklessness, Curse of Exhaustion, Curse of Shadows" is a good way to track single-instance curses.
How do I get more bars?
You can enable more groups of bars by going into the Interface settings off the main menu and choosing the AddOns tab. If four groups of six bars isn't enough for you, consider another timer bar addon. Also consider rethinking your UI.
How do I get NeedToKnow to track my own DoTs but not those applied by other members of my class?
Select "Only show if cast by self" in the bar's configuration menu.

Spell Usable bars

Thanks for the head's up, Dridzt. NeedToKnow.AuraCheck_USABLE was still unedited from when I split up Bar_AuraCheck; it didn't even return anything! Should be all better in 3.2.01

Carltonbanks, see if this fixes your issues with sunder, too. If not, could you open a ticket over on CurseForge and attach your WTF\Account\...\NeedToKnow.lua?

eep! Going back to 3.1.9 fixes it?

Also, my bar for Sunder Armor which is set to track target debuffs is also broken.
Hmm weird, that still works for me

Deathwish, Recklessness, and Berserker rage all give a buff which allows me to setup a bar for each, but I don't want 3 bars to track my enrage. I'd prefer having one "smart bar" which notifies me when I have an enrage independent of how it is triggered.
You can put them all on one bar by separating the names with commas. Can then use the name override to make the bar say the same thing regardless of what triggers it

Warrior Enrages/Raging Blow

Hi Kitjan, thanks for the fantastic work on an essential raiding addon!

Since updating to 3.2.0 my bar for Raging Blow, which is set to activate on "Spell Usable" so no longer working.

Also, my bar for Sunder Armor which is set to track target debuffs is also broken.

Not sure whether you are aware of these issues!

A suggestion/request:
I wanted to request some sort of functionality for the enrage effect which Warriors have. Essentially, an Enrage effect is triggered when warriors use Recklessness, Deathwish or Beserker rage. They also have 3 talent points which gives them a chance to become enraged on melee hit. Is there any way to track this enrage effect and its duration?

Deathwish, Recklessness, and Berserker rage all give a buff which allows me to setup a bar for each, but I don't want 3 bars to track my enrage. I'd prefer having one "smart bar" which notifies me when I have an enrage independent of how it is triggered.

Just some food for thought, thanks!

Mend Pet

Hello,
I have a small issue with the Mend pet bar i made ( shows the mend pet buff on my pet so i can see how long it lasts). However, if i mend pet and then mount up, the bar stays there, run out, but then stays there. (see screeny).
Any way to fix this?

Not sure if this has been requested before, but any chance of getting an option to copy the config from your alternate spec? And also a "reset all bars" option to the default, fresh installed state? Would be awesomazing!

Nifra: That's a really cute use of bar spacing. The only problem with it being a per-group option is the UI to configure it, so that's kind of blocked on Ticket 60. I'll add this suggestion as part of that ticket.

Hey! Great addon, been using it for a while now.
So I was configuring my bars for elemental, and thought it would be cool to add ICD bars under the proc bars.

(Don't mind the overrided aura names, 20 SP X is from Muradin's Spyglass (Cultivated Power), X meaning "times/multiply" while the stacks show up at the right
DFO = Dislodged Foreign Object (just easier for me to remember/distinguish instead of "Surge of Power").

Anyways, this is sort of a suggestion for future releases, if possible...
Say you enable Group 1 and Group 2. It would be nice if each sets of bars had its own customization, in other words... you could make the first group this wide and this big, and the other groups of bars smaller etc.

Currently, the options affects all groups at the same time.

Here's a quick mock-up on paint I made, ignore the red text, it's just to show you which bar would be the ICD bar.

I'm using the ticketing system on curseforge.com. The link is in the addon description, but I'll repeat it here as well
