Thorinair's AddOn Font Manager
Many World of Warcraft AddOns today use a shared library called LibSharedMedia. This allows them to exchange some media data, for instance fonts.
AddOn Font Manager is an AddOn without a user interface which lets the user specify their own fonts which can then be used in many different AddOns. The AddOn also comes with a bunch of pre-loaded fonts for your enjoyment.
Tutorial
Want to add your own font? Here is a simple tutorial:
This AddOn has no user interface. Instead, additional fonts are added by modifying a
specific file. The file is located here:
AddOnFontManager\fonts.lua
- Add a .ttf font file to the following folder:
AddOnFontManager\fonts\
- Add the following line to the end of fonts.lua file:
LSM:Register("font", "FONT NAME", folder .. [[FILENAME.ttf]]
- Be sure to replace "FONT NAME" and "FILENAME" with appropriate strings, and that the .ttf file has no spaces!
- If you have done everything correctly, restart the game, and your new font should appear in many different AddOns!
Compatibility
Considering this AddOn uses LibSharedMedia, a lot of AddOns will gain the new fonts. Considering a vast volume of AddOns using this library, I cannot say which ones for certain, but here are the ones that I confirmed to work:
FAQ
Why did you make this AddOn?
I wanted to use certain fonts (specifically Helvetica) in all kinds of AddOns, but I couldn't find an AddOn that allows something like this. I have seen a few mods that let you change text in the whole game, but this was not what I wanted.
Why is there no user interface?
I wanted to try and keep it as lightweight as possible. On top of that, you would still have to restart the game for the AddOns to pull the new fonts. I tried, and it seems that just reloading doesn't properly load new fonts.
Which fonts come with this AddOn?
Please check the image attached to this AddOn page for more info.
How do I add my own fonts?
Just follow the tutorial provided in this AddOn description, or the readme file.
Some fonts look too ugly/small!
This depends a lot on the part of the interface where you try to apply them. A very small font could actually work great in mods such as
Scrolling Combat Text! This is also another reason why I made it so you can load custom fonts. Just get something you truly like!
I found a bug/something is not working.
Just comment here, and I will help you as best as I can to solve it!
Will you be adding more fonts?
I definitely might add more fonts in future.
