PortalAlert

Version: 1.31
by: Vultus of The Venture Co [More]

PortalAlert is intended to name the mage who completes casting a portal and what portal it is. This addon will also name the caster of a Personal Mole Machine (that drill where clicking it can teleport you to Blackrock Depths). Thanks to this, PortalAlert is useful for identifying a renegade raid member that pulls the Portal/Mole stunt at the Wintergrasp portal in Dalaran.

How to Use:
If you are in the same raid and are within decent range (Flash of Heal range) of the caster, you will receive a notification in your main chat frame when the casting of the portal or the Personal Mole Machine is completed.

Commands:
Type /pa to toggle raid chat notification. Default is enabled.

PortalAlert 1.31: Added raid notification toggle (type /pa to enable/disable it).

PortalAlert 1.30: Overhauled. Added alert for Personal Mole Machines.

PortalAlert 1.20: [Obsolete due to 1.30 overhaul] Finally 100% resolved the issue that was supposed to be fixed in 1.10.

PortalAlert 1.10: [Obsolete due to 1.30 overhaul] Fixed an issue where PortalAlert wasn't recognizing Sunreaver's Sanctuary or The Silver Enclave if you logged on straight into those locations (and thus not performing its intended function due to thinking you're not at either location).

Writing the announce with a filter code such as "Raid: <PA> Blah portal made by BlahMage" would allow chat mods to filter and redirect this information if they so choose. This would also allow the rest of the raid to see this information, which is especially helpful to raid leaders who don't have the mod.

I understand the fear of chat spam, but in reality, if you see a wall of text saying that some jerk mage is setting up a portal, it's going to be hard to miss it. Also, eventually those same mages will be discouraged from doing it since they will be found out pretty easily.
Sure, I'll be adding it. Going to test it a bit tonight regarding portals (should also work for personal mole machines, although as always the caveat is either occurrence would have to take place while you're in their raid + close enough). I assume from the lack of feedback that the notifications are working as they should for Alliance and Personal Mole Machines.

Edit: Version 1.31 has a /pa toggle for raid notification. Default is on.

I see. Well, 1.30 will hopefully address it and it's been up. I just can't test vs mole machines or for Alliance.. so a confirmation that it's working for you in regards to mole machines would be nice (provided the person who activated the machine's appearance is in your raid). Are the range limit and the private notification also fine? If I removed the range limit, I believe it will notify you even if the caster is faraway yet still in the same zone. The private notification just seemed better than potential raid chat spam.

I actually had to go and look up mole machines because I couldn't for the life of me think of why one would drill into Dalaran.. I believe it's possible to detect the user of the item that summons the mole machine (for those who aren't aware of what the summoned mole machine does, clicking on it will teleport the clicker to the Blackrock Depths instance).

I've never seen anyone use the mole machine on my server in Dalaran and it doesn't mimic a portal, so unfortunately it's not a priority unless the summoned mole machine has been a plague and/or is very successful at inducing unwary clicks. I'd need more information before deciding whether to pursue adding this, because I suspect curiosity drove those unwary clicks and were not due to being misled by spell graphics.

Edit: I've changed PortalAlert for 1.30 and added an alert for Mole Machines. It will no longer give those entering/exiting messages and no longer does a raid chat notification. It now will simply privately notify you via your main chat frame and the alert will now function anywhere as long you are in the same raid as the caster of either portal or mole machine. I may need feedback as I cannot test this for Alliance or those Personal Mole Machines.

It would be more win if I hadn't discovered a bug immediately after uploading it. The bug: If you logged on into Sunreaver's Sanctuary or The Silver Enclave, the addon will not properly recognize the area.

The workaround is to move out of either area and then go back in.

Edit: Trying to resolve this bug. I thought I fixed it with 1.10, but guess not.

Edit: It should now be fixed with version 1.20. Version 1.10 is archived in case I broke something in version 1.20. It seems to work fine on my end.
