CPU usage

I just checked 4 similar addons on Broker CPU, and this is what I found.

CPU usage
1. TullaRange 0.37-0.47%
2. RangeColors 0.71 - 1.31%
3. ButtonRange 2.92 - 4.35%
4. RedRange 3.35 - 4.75%

TullaRange came in as least CPU usage, but RangeColors also checks/colors spells you have too little mana(blue) to use.

Hey ZombiePope,

What addon shows the latency caused by each running addon, as shown in yuor screenshot?

Thank you.

I hadn't compared it to RedRange since I'd uninstalled it at the time, but I did it just now to compare, and you're correct that RedRange uses about the same, or slightly more, CPU than ButtonRange. So this is definitely an improvement. I was just surprised that range-checking consumes all these resources at all, but maybe there's no better way. I definitely plan to keep using the addon. The resource usage is on the high end, but it's not ridiculous or anything.

Thanks!

About the CPU time, there are 120 visible actionbuttons in the default UI. If you target someone, it triggers the function for the coloring. Now that simple little function get's called 120 times! And when your tabbing trough a pack of mobs with 2 mobs per second for 5 seconds the function is called:

120*2*5 = 1200 times.

And not to forget that if you move this function is called 120 times.

That's why.

Thx for the screen. For me i don't see a better way to do a simple rangecheck. Tuller has written an own rangecheck (named tullarange) - but i don't know how much cpu his addon needs.

The only thing that could be changed is the updatetimer for the rangecheck, but this would change the correct display of the buttoncolor.

Hi ZombiePope,

thanks for your Reply. Do you compare CPU Time in competition with other addons or only to see which addon uses the most CPU time? (maybe a screenshot would help?)

Buttonrange hooks a global function of Blizzards Actionbuttons, nothing more, nothing less. So it's called every time the interface calls Blizzards function. Within my tests it uses CPU Time, but this CPU time is not as big as within other range addons, so for me that is ok.

The only thing i can say is that i never got problems with this addon.

I'm not a pro coder, but i think that the cpu time of range addons like Buttonrange would ever be included in your ui, even called through Blizzards 'Rangecheck' Code.

Finally i would like to say thanks to all the users of my addon(s) and i'm glad you like them (hope so ^^)

Thanks for the great addon! Been looking for something like this for awhile, most of these seems to be dead.

Thank you for a simple addon that uses virtually no memory and just does what it's supposed to.
