by: twobits [More]

NOTICE: Urgent Update Needed To Prevent Game Crashes
Please Download The Newest Version To Remove This Bug

This AddOn is a communications center for Guilds to use to keep their members informed of important things.

The layout for GuildBB is based off of a Thread-Style forum, but is still being tweaked and worked on.

Current Features:

- Anyone in the same guild as you can make posts to keep in touch with the guild.

- If you were offline when a post was made, you will receive them upon login as long as another person is online that has the post.

- THERE IS A MAXIMUM LIMIT OF 14 POSTS AT THIS TIME

- Ability to delete posts

---

Planned features:

Version Check:

  • - Ensure that versions which have modified function handlers first check for proper versioning before processing data
  • - Warn Out-Of-Date users that there is an update available
Post Limitations:
  • - Increase Maximum Posts to 25
  • - Enable Replies with Thread-Like menu system

Admin Pannel:
  • - Posting Permissions
  • - Maximum number of posts per guild rank and/or guild member individualy by name.
  • - Show whether or not users have other required AddOns.
  • - Determine how long to keeps posts before they fall victim to purging.

v 1.5.0

- Corrected Message Parsing during Sync Event to fix crashing bug.
- Each message is now assigned a unique message ID at time of posting
Messages that are parsed into several chunks will be matched up by ID now
instead of post topic to prevent this from occuring in the future.

---
v 1.0.0

- Added the ability to delte posts as needed

- Added a Resync function that fires at login so that if there were any posts made while offline, it will querey all online members for their most recent posts.

- GuildBB Now Saves All Posts

- Simplified some of the underlying code and removed several temporary variables

I just wanted to invite you all to share any views you have on this AddOn. If you think of something that would be a nice feature for it, or if you think something should be tweaked, let me know

GuildBB is the proper name of the Folder.. my apologies, this has been corrected in the updated file. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Additions to GuildBB

Greetings,

Thought I'd drop a line and let you all know what's in store for the next release so you can plan accordingly, seeing as how a few of you have marked the page in your favorites I do believe it's the least I can do

With the next release GuildBB will have an Admin Panel where you will have all sorts of access control. Let's go over some of the core features of the Admin Panel:

SECURITY
  • Minimum Rank To Post: This will set the global minimum guild rank allowed to make new posts in GuildBB.
  • Minimum Rank To Delete: Only guild members with this rank or higher can delete posts, regardless of who created it.
  • Maximum Posts Per Rank: With this option, you can limit how many posts each rank in your guild can create (i.e. Initiates can make 1 post, Senior Members can make 5)
  • System Lockdown: Lockdown the entre GuildBB system causing all posts to be locked, no new posts can be created, and no options can be modified. The only exception to this is the Guild Master. This option was intended for those who only want this to be used by Guild Masters. Instead of setting each individual option, just lock the system and you're set.
  • Member Database: Here is where you can change settings on individual Members. All aspects of the system are customizable on this screen on a per-character basis (such as allowing Timmy to delete posts even though he's only a Standard Member, not an officer.. but Jane who is also a Member can't, due to the Global restriction.)

LIMITS
  • This Tab Is Still Being Developed And May Be Removed!

ADDONS
  • Required Addons: In this section you list what addons are required by your guild based on what addons you, yourself, have loaded.
  • Exceptions: This window will show you who does not have GuildBB active at the time of the scan. No AddOn can tell what AddOns are installed if they're not turned on
  • Alarms: This window will show you who does not have any of the required AddOns that have been set.

GARBAGE CAN
  • Mesage Life: Time in days a message will stay active on the system (global)
  • Auto-Purge: With this option selected, if a post is made after the maximum is reached, then the first post will be deleted to make room for the new post automatically. NOTE: This has system privs and bypasses all lockdowns in place.
  • Blacklist: Words that are forbidden to be used in the topic and body areas of posts. This list applies to ALL posters regardless of rank.

WARNING This update will be classified as a "Major" update in the system and will require all users to update their version of GuildBB in order to continue use of the system. No posts currently on the system will be lost by this change. If a user still using a younger version tries to post, they will be notified by the Version Check of the required update; the poster will also be notified of who did not get the post in the form of:
Timmy did not receive your post because they were using an out of date copy.

This update is still a while out, I'm estimating about another week or two (probably closer to the 2 week mark). If any of you have thoughts feel free to voice them. I'll consider them and, if deemed beneficial for the project, may implement them.

I have also received a few requests for a close button ([X]) to make it a bit easier to figure out how to close the menus, I will be adding this to the next update. At the current point in development, the addon is registering 73.2KiB of memory usage (for those of you who want this information).

Okay, with all that said, I just want to say thank you and enjoy!

Exclamation CRIPPLING BUG FOUND

To anyone who's reading this and has GuildBB installed:

A serious bug has been brought to my attention that I am addressing right now. This bug is causing people that have GuildBB to have client crashes. As soon as the player logs in, they experience a few seconds of heavy lag and then get disconnected. This is caused by a lack of flow checking and is being fixed.

I -will- have a hotfix up within the hour, in the mean time please Disable GuildBB in your AddOn menu.

My deepest apologies,
-Kajas [Terokkar]

Thumbs up BUG FIXED

As promised, the fix to the discovered bug has been posted.

This version will not communicate with versions younger than it to prevent spread of the bug, it will however attempt to send a message to the younger version to clean the bug.

PLEASE let me know of any other bugs found with this AddOn, even if it seems petty. I can't fix what I don't know about.

The line it is referring to is sending a message to the Guild Chat Channel.. are you not in a guild? If you are, are you in the guild chat channel (can you see guild chat)?

Thank you for posting this error, I will investigate this on my end as well while I await a response.

Some issues I have found:

1) if you go to delete a post the buttons seem to be blank.

What happened to GuildBB?

Hey all,

It's been a while since I was able to post an update for GuildBB because of things that occured IRL.. but I'm back now.

I am working on an update for GuildBB to bring it up to speed with WotLK as well as fix numerous bugs that have been reported here and via PM.

Upcoming updates

I am really looking forward to your future updates. I personally think a bulletin board or forum type feature needs to be built into the game for guilds to use as the MotD is worthless, and there needs to be a way to share info offline with other officers. I am glad you are creating an addon to fit that much needed nitch.
